Were you able to get this accomplished? How did you raise the mower? Or did you do it with the wheels on the ground? Thanks.

Incredibly good tutorial. I've watched it several times. I'm a 75-year-old woman and it's a possibility that I'll need to be changing the belt myself. Thank you so much for your explicit instructions.

Hey Brad, Just want to say thanks for that very informative video. You saved me a minimum of at least $250 by me doing it myself. Using the hook tool was a game changer. I had to go out and purchase it. Hook and pick set of 7 was $10 at Harbor Freight. On another note. Your an inspiration to people with disabilities.

Hi Glen, I’m glad you were able to get this job done. I was lucky to be born that way so I did not know any other way. To get into a business that normally you need three hand s was not the smartest thing but managed ok through the years and I became a pretty decent teacher because I used the kids from our local tech school for years. RU-vid is my way of making a little money and helping all of the DIYers out there as now at 55years young my right hand and arm are starry to fail me. I am halfway through doing this (I have belt removed) on a LT180 and there was one additional spring, for the mower deck lift bracket (the flat piece that goes vertically welded to the round bar) that I had to take off also. So that is 3 springs I had to pull, IIRC. Bracket is shown at 12:15 . @johnsonssmallengines - Thank you! You helped me on this and on transmission belt for a D140. Great videos!

Also used this video to do a LT155 transmission drive belt. There were some minor differences for mine, but most of it was identical. You explain things very well, and your humor is so fun! Subscribed to your channel, keep them coming. My LT155 has started backing up super slow, maybe you know a fix for that?
@JohnsonsSmallEngines
@JohnsonsSmallEngines Год назад
Check your reverse pedal to make sure it is traveling correctly. Sometimes bushings will wear or the pedals will come loose but without seeing it, that is hard to diagnose.
@franklinstahl3711
@franklinstahl3711 Год назад
I changed the belt and put it all back together. Started the mower up and THOUGH BELT MOVED THE MOWER WOULD NOT. The transmission lever rod was in the right position. If the belt is one inch too long, and I think it may be, is there anyway to tighten to adjust for this?
@JohnsonsSmallEngines
@JohnsonsSmallEngines Год назад
There are no adjustments as it is tensioned by a spring. If your not using a John Deere belt? That is your problem. If you are using a John Deere belt? You did something wrong or purchased the incorrect belt.

@JohnsonsSmallEngines
@JohnsonsSmallEngines 2 года назад
Double check all of your work. If it wasn't like the when you started? you must back track your work and figure out what you did wrong? Impossible to diagnose without seeing it.
@Perly53

Brad, how can I do this if I don't have the ability to lift the lawn tractor up like you have it here? I'm 70 yrs. old and I have tools, but can it be done somehow without tilting it up almost vertical like you have it? Can I do it from underneath, lying on my back? I have two jack stands.
@JohnsonsSmallEngines
@JohnsonsSmallEngines 8 месяцев назад
Yes, it can be done on your back with jack stands. Be careful :)
@MrFurious176
@MrFurious176 2 года назад
I didn't realize you could stand the tractor up like that. For some reason, it seems like every year either the deck belt or the drive belt goes in my LT133. I've tried several different brand every time including the John Deere belts and they just don't last. I have back problems and getting that dang black spring on and off is really painful when I do if from laying on the ground under the tractor. This method looks easier to me.
@JohnsonsSmallEngines
@JohnsonsSmallEngines 2 года назад
I’m all about safety but the chain hoist I have been using for 20 years and it has been a great tool. You just need to be aware and safe when using it.
@MrFurious176
@MrFurious176 2 года назад
@@JohnsonsSmallEngines I replaced the belt but unfortunately it just immediately burned up again. Everything moves except the pulley above the transmission. It doesn't matter whether it's reverse, neutral or forward, the pulley in the back won't budge more than 1/4 inch and stops completely. The wheels will turn forwards and back if I move them manually and I can hear the gears moving in the case, but the pulley doesn't budge. I'm not finding much information since the tractor is so old and the local service shops won't work on anything unless it was purchased from them. Any thoughts?
@JohnsonsSmallEngines
@JohnsonsSmallEngines 2 года назад
@@MrFurious176 can you push the tractor I. The neutral position? If the tractor will not push? Your brakes may be locked up. Is it a gear driven tractor or hydrostatic?
@MrFurious176
@MrFurious176 2 года назад
@@JohnsonsSmallEngines Yes, I can push the tractor. I had to push it back to my shed. I have it up on jack stands right now and when I press the brakes it stops the wheels and when I let go I can move them again. I was in the middle of mowing with it when it just stopped moving forward and burned the belt. Not sure about the gear driven or hydrostatic. How do you determine that?
@JohnsonsSmallEngines
@JohnsonsSmallEngines 2 года назад
Do you have a gear shift lever that has 1 2 3 4 5? Or do you push pedals? What is the model again of your tractor? It doesn’t sound like the brakes are locked. Unfortunately you may have a locked up transmission.
