This video shows you how to repair any drip coffee maker that brews slowly or not at all. The two main causes that are covered in this video are 1) clogged heating element and 2) clogged or stuck ball valve in water supply line.
YES!!!! My late husband Dino used to fix coffee machines of all kinds for a living in Italy, where he was from. He left all his wonderful tools behind, and I was able to fix my coffee pot thanks to your wonderful video. The culprit was a bunch of cat hair obstructing the check valve in the reservoir line!! I could just feel him laughing and smiling down at me. Thank you so much!!
My ancient Krups coffeemaker suddenly started gurgling and spitting, spraying grounds all over the basket cover. Several vinegar treatments were no help. I took it apart, and found that the ball valve in the water supply to the heater had a piece of coffee bean stuck in it, keeping it open. This caused the water to back up partly into the tank when it boiled in the heater instead of pushing it all up to the outlet. Unfortunately, I destroyed the silicone tube getting the valve out, so I ordered some food grade high temp silicone tubing from an industrial supply company (one day), and replaced it. Works perfectly and quietly now. i.imgur.com/pPV9oMR.jpg
It just so happened that I had the same issue with the same model coffee maker as your video. We were about to go buy a new coffee maker, you saved us some money and gained a subscriber. Your video was super easy to follow the whole thing took me about 15 min. Time to brew a fresh pot. Thank you very much!
Worked perfectly! Darn coffee maker was less than year old and clogged. Not much visible build-up in tubing, so ball valve must have simply gotten stuck. Cleared tube flow by running hot water thru it. Then gave traditional white vinegar flush. Now, morning coffee back on! Thanks for helpful vid!!
Thank you so much for this video! I've had my coffee maker sitting in storage for a few years because it wasn't working right. It was steaming and gurgling, but not brewing normal. It took me 45 minutes to do and my fingers hurt, but I fixed it.
Wow ... thanks for sharing this information. I have been having trouble with my coffee maker, too. Now I know what to do. Your details were easy to understand, and I appreciate that. :)
My black and decker coffee maker would randomly not work every time. I took the bottom off and clean the tube with the ball valve and it works perfectly every time now. Thanks so much for your video.
Hey thanks Man! 👍🏼 I didn't have to buy a new coffee machine because you shared your awesome video. Although my problem was a calcium clog inside the heating element. It's cleared out and making delicious coffee thanks to you. Your wonderful, fantastic and outstanding! Keep up the great work!
Thanks. Took apart my KitchenAid and could not blow through the tube with the checkvalve so cleaned it out with pipe cleaner. Put all together and still would not work. Took apart again and checked heating element - could not blow through that either - should have checked before putting it back together. So twisted some wire together to make a strong but bendable cleaning tool and went to work soaking in CLR, cleaning, etc. Took a while but better than buying a new unit. Hardest part was getting the clamps back on the tubes.
thanks. Nice step by step in depth fix video. I fixed mine by not taking it apart at all..There's a hole at the bottom of the water intake reservoir where you pour the water in, I used some wire and stuck it in there, and cleaned out the gunk. The inlet hole was clogged with coffee gunk. Then it worked again fine. I then just ran water thru the coffee maker several times till the water ran clear. Good luck.
Great video. Just repaired my 6 cup Mr. Coffee maker after it was brewing very slowly to almost not at all. Appears to have been a stuck ball valve. I did have to get a spanner screw bit for 2 of the bottom screws. The other 4 were phillips. Again thank you very much!
Also, before taking it apart, just try cleaning the buildup first by running a full pot of white vinegar through it to dissolve the sediment. After that, run a full pot of plain water, then you're usually good to go back to brewing coffee in a clean pot the easy way.
Intake and output tubes were not blocked. That's when I checked the heating coil. My Caphalon coffee maker had calcium build up in the heating coil. Just follow directions to remove bracket holding the heating coil. I tested the line to see if air would pass through. Nope. CLR to the rescue. Added small amount to both sides of the coil and watched it sizzle. Let it stand for an hour and then worked with a wire to clear the passage. Proceeded to run a couple pots to clean out residue. It works!
Thank you for this!!! I cleaned mine yesterday and when I removed the bottom cover I saw that but didn’t know what it was on my cuisinart cbc-00 coffee maker!!! Since the hose was loose and not in the slot. I’ll take it apart tomorrow and install the valve!
Thanks, it worked for me :) My clog was in the metal part where the heat element is. Was able to get a path way cleaned out and then use the vinegar. (That was after the counter flooded from the hose popping off! lol!)
I have a Hamilton Beach and the inards look exactly the same!!! I am gonna test now. I almost put the hose with the ball valve in backwards! Praying it works now, I need coffee! THANK YOU SOOO MUCH!!!!!!!
our coffee maker ball valve is stuck in the open position so the water backs up into the reservoir. Thanks to you I'm sure I can fix it> you confirm my suspicions Thank you!
My coffee maker was letting a bit of water through, and then stopped. Took it apart and no shorts or blockages, only that ball valve in the way. Took it apart, cleaned although pretty much clean already, and voila works.
thanks so much. was able to fix my cuisinart coffee maker following your video. its basically the same setup. there was white debri inside the hot water tube . a large clump. the hose was a bitch to get off they put some type of glue on the pipe. bastards!. i actually damged the hoseit but put duct tape around it. works great now. fantastic video.
THANK YOU! I have a Cuisinart - CPO-850 - it stopped brewing this morning. I took it apart, looked in the tube - there was a COFFEE BEAN stuck in it. I remembered opening a bag of coffee a last week and beans went flying everywhere - I guess I had the water fill side open at the time. Ugh!
I got tired off grounds getting stuck in that check ball valve and having to take it out to clean over and over. Will this cause any problems without any valve in there? I ran some water through and it seemed heat and work ok.
Sounds like you may have stretched the clamps when you removed them. Try removing the clamps and bending them to make the opening smaller. That way they should fit tighter around the tubing.
Thanks for sharing! Wow, this might be better than screaming at the top of my lungs and throwing the entire device through a plat-glass window! I tried that first after washing the F@%^!$%#$@#%!king thing 60 times.
Would you complete the same process if the machine also was not heating up the heat plate? Mine won't brew coffee nor warm the hot plate, but the red on button does work. thanks
Hi. Nice of you to post this video. My ball valve seems clear and moves freely. However when I try to pump water through the coffee maker, the intake hose pops off where it attaches to the water reservoir. I am thinking the clog is in the heating element itself. I had vinegar going through it to clean it when this first happened. I am letting pure vinegar soak it hoping it will clear the clog. No water is getting through to the basket. I cannot take the hose off where it it attached to the heating element. It's old and when I tried to remove it, the hose was breaking. Kind of glued in place from the heat. So I left it. Is there a way to clear the clog in the heating element itself? Is there any place to buy a new hose besides the from the company making the product? My coffee maker is old so it's not even listed on their site.
My 2 cents worth to add to this informative Video if I may. Note if your water tube (horseshoe shaped alum tube) attached to the heating element is clogged no amount of vinegar application seems to remove it (today). We're talking almost blocked or blocked. Most of the blockage I've found is on the input side of the horseshoe shaped water tube. Disassemble per the video. Take successive size drill bits (no larger than the inside diameter of the tube) an gently clean out the hard deposits being careful not to go to far into the tube as to damage, punch thru the alum tube. Its best to do this by hand only. I use a Tapping tool to hold the bits. Do not use a mechanical drill. You have little control which you want. Tapping on the tube to relieve it of the debris as you go. Flush out if you will before reassembly and or them run the vinegar solution thru with a paper filter in place several times then follow with cold water again several times. I live in a town with notoriously hard water that eats coffee machines like candy. Hope this help you folks out. I've rescued many a machine doing this. One final tip. Clean with vinegar on at least every 20 uses of the machine if in a hard water area, 30-40 if your water is soft.
I am afraid I'm going to tear the tube, it is very stubborn. You make it look so easy. What did you use to remove clips and tubes, thanks for any advice.
Try needle nose pliers on the top hose clips. You may need to apply some twisting motion as you are pulling on tube to separate it from reservoir. Good luck!
I have a cuisine dispensing coffee maker. Ha e purchased 2 of this model. My problem with my recent purchase is the coffee gauge is not working and stuck in full. Any help would be appreciated. Thxs
Gonna give this a try. My coffee maker is the same as in your video. It turns on, makes the sound like it's about to brew, nothing happens then it beeps as though it's done. I have only had it for 9mos but only used it maybe 5 most. I tried running vinegar through. Nothing so I hope I can do this. I will mrk the tube so I don't put it on backwards.
Mine triggers the circuit breaker without destroying ceramic thingies. When I test for contuinity on the 2 poles of the plug of the power chord itself, I dont hear anything even if the start button is ON. All otherr contuniuty tests are ok. Is it the power chord?
Gonna go take mine apart right now and see if that's the issue. My coffee maker was 80 bucks it's a huge investment for a coffee maker for it to stop brewing I'm hoping this is the issue. Cross your fingers for me!!!
I have Krups Siziliana coffee machine. On this machine hot water and steam go through the same pipe, when I accsidentally tried to use steam before the machine heated up enough. Now i can only heard the pump inside, but no water or steam are going out. Do you know how to fix it?
I just removed the tubes and cleaned them a few minutes ago. Also took out the ball thing, cause I thought it was blocking the water from brewing. Right now I'm running a brewing cycle with just vinegar, it's been slow but it's kind of working, also the beep (as it was the pot done) stopped. Did't know the ball thing was important.
That is a ball valve and is necessary for the coffee maker to produce a flow of heated water. You'll need to put it back in the tube if you removed it. Shake the tube to make sure it isn't stuck, clean inside the valve with a tube brush if it is. Good Luck!
I have the same Mr Coffee coffee maker. I did my annual deep clean of the inside and reservoir last night, and when i woke up this morning to make coffee, I plugged it in, the display is flashing the time (12:00), but none of the buttons are working. I use a lot of water when i clean the inside, so I’m guessing some kind of water damage, idk?
My machine's pump starts going. Starts pumping relatively ok when its just water. But if i put a k cup in, it jams it up and the pump stops. Is it knly a dying pump?
On disassembly of those pesky screws with a block (Security screws). You can take a small flat blade screw driver an cut a notch to span that block then if you want replace with philips head screw.
how did you get the clips off? they are really on there! I got the top one off with pliers but no room to get tools down to the bottom ones. I think I'm going to just have to go out for coffee! lol
So I'm assuming I have super hard water. I have extreme calcium build up inside my heating tube under my heating plate. Any suggestions on how to decalcify that tube without ruining the internals of my coffee pot?
I would remove the heating element, fill with vinegar, and let sit overnight. Use something like flexible grass trimmer line and insert into element to remove calcium buildup.
what tools did you use to remove the clips? being in such a tight space it would have been some good info to see it done. you mentioned a 'brush' to clean the tube, why not show the brush and the cleaning of the tube?
Scott Frasier Hi Scott, Needle nose pliers will make removing the clips a breeze and you can pickup a set of utility brushes at your local home improvement center or Harbor Freight.
Yes, needle nose pliers work great but to be honest, they're not very strong clips so you can actually press them together with your fingers if you really needed to. Nothing like the clips you see in car vacuum hoses.
The tube with ball valve should allow water to flow through the heating element and into the coffee basket. The purpose of the ball valve is to prevent the heated water from backing up into the water reservoir.
Is there a valve in the heating element? It was clogged where the hot water is supposed to come out of the valve. I managed to get the hose of and cleaned it out as well as I could with a small screw driver. Seems to be something in there. Unless it's just more calcium or lime deposits.
It sounds like there is calcium buildup inside the heating element. Try soaking it in CLR and use some plastic weed eater line to clear out the remaining deposits.Be sure to rinse in water thoroughly before using. Let me know how it goes!
The Frugal Toad Thanks for responding. There definitely is calcium or lime in there. I put a wire through as far as it will go but it won't go all the way. Not sure if it should go all the way through or not. Why I asked if there is a valve in the element itself. I've got pure vinegar in the there but you can't put much in.such a small hole. I'll keep removing the vinegar and replacing it with clean vinegar. Do you know if there is a valve in the element itself. I can't soak the whole element since it stlll has all the wires connected. I don't want to undo the wires since I cannot resolder them. Thanks.
The heating element does not have a valve. Try using an eye dropper to squirt CLR into the heating element. Have you tried using plastic weed trimmer line to clear the calcium deposits in the element?
The Frugal Toad I so appreciate your responding. Thank you. Actually I did use an eye dropper. lol. I'm not bad at DIY for a lady. I've Mcgyvered a few things in my time.I did not use weed trimmer line. I used a turkey baster like a plunger to blow air and vinegar in and out through the element. Good news. It worked. I finally have it all fixed. Now to get some new screws to put the base back on. Those darn screws with a pin in the middle of the head suck. I don't have one of those bits but managed to borrow one from a neighbor. Will replace those screws with regular Robertson ones if I can find them in case I need to open her up again. YT videos like yours are a blessing for DIY ers like me. Thanks again. :)
I have a Mr.Coffee Keurig model BVMC-KG6 and it leaks I have cleaned it and it still leaks at the bottom its not that old got it for Mothers day of 2016
I notice that your coffee maker, like mine, has some kind of white thermal paste between the heating element and the hot plate. The stuff I use for CPU heat sinks is somewhat toxic and a skin irritant. I wonder what they use in coffee makers? It is probably not worth replacing, since it would just mean the pot doesn't stay quite as hot on the warmer. I was unable to pull the plastic tubes off of my heating element, and there is no space to get in to try to remove from the reservoir. They really designed this model (Mr. Coffee TF5) to be disposable. :-(
Hi Stuart! The plastic tubes can be a bit stubborn. Try twisting them, that usually will free them. If not, try unbending a large paper clip, use needle nose pliers to bend a small hook in the end of the paper clip, insert the hook between the plastic tube and the water line, pull on paper clip hook to release plastic tube. You may have to grasp the paper clip hook with needle nose pliers in order to pull the plastic hose off the water lines. - Let me know how it goes if you get a chance!
The screws in the bottom of my coffee brewer isn't the regular type, what type of screw head do you need to remove these screws, it's not a Philips nor a straight head
The bigger problem with these coffee makers is the calcium build up in the aluminum heating tube. The water deposits become like concrete. Vinegar, CLR, Lime Away etc. don't even remove them.
