How to replace brake caliper bracket boots on a Silverado In this video ill show you how I was able to change out the brake caliper bracket hardware like the boots and rubber slide pins inside the bracket.
Pro-tip when you use the screwdriver to start working around the pressed in boot start with a small screwdriver and as soon as you get a gap around the whole unit switch to a thicker flat head screwdriver and then continue tapping around it pops right out every time
There are rubber inserts that you slide in before pressing the boots back on. If that’s what you’re referring too. Sorry about that. The pin hole part confused me. But I think that’s what you were talking about.
What year Silverado are we talking? I've searched high and low online and can't source that inner portion that you removed with a pick for my 09 1500. I can find the boots, pins, bolts and anti rattle brackets, nothing else.
Any local auto parts store will have them, if your truck is equipped with them. 09 is a different style than 2002. I’m not sure if they use the same brake calipers and brackets. But for my 2002 I just walked into my local auto parts store and purchased them. Wasn’t hard at all to find. Try asking for “brake hardware kits”
@@HandsOnDismantler Yup, that's what I've been searching for all evening. I found a picture of my brackets and the interior hole is quite a bit smaller than what I'm seeing in your video, I don't think GMT-900s use the inner part, it's just metal on metal. Thanks for hitting me back
@@HandsOnDismantler that you are right. but these next ones probably wont last until the next brake job arrives. there is no way to install them without pushing on the rubber. im sure when the brackets were new they went in easy. not likely to happen again here in the rust belt
@@trentblasco well there’s a special tool or press that presses them in safely without damaging them. I was able to do it in the video without damaging them. You just need to be careful and take your time. You’ll get it. And unfortunately almost ALL parts are made to a lower quality standard these days.
