@@malcolmmoore I want to get really good at snowboarding so have been watching a lot of YT videos to prep for the season. I'm sure nothing beats time on the slopes but during my initial journey, it seems the popular snowboard youtubers that the algorithm pushes on people are basically in the "watch me do tricks for 90% of the video and let me sell you subpar products" mode. Unsubscribed from most of those and mainly follow you, snowboard addiction, and Ryan Knapton. If I was in France, I'd definitely get lessons from you. Thank you for all the effort you put into these. They are gems!

This drill is pure gold! I've been in sports my whole life (I'm in my 50s) and I've never been taught a drill in any sport that was as effective as this. Had me riding switch in no time today after having attempted several times before. You get that immediate contrast between doing the turn the correct way, feeling where your weight is and what you're doing with your feet, knees, ankles, and then you immediately try to apply that riding switch. The initiation became so much more obvious as well as the problem with a tendency to not weight / engage that front foot, or to unweight it too early and careen across the slope. Previously, when I tried to ride switch, I knew I was facing the same problems I used to have riding regular as a beginner, but I didn't know how to fix them until this drill made them so obvious. Thanks Malcolm!

Brilliant drill ! Years of forced unpleasant switch riding, doing like 2 turns and “oh shit it’s getting too fast now what ?!!” I love that it puts a limit to the experience and forces me to focus into just a turn, getting out the paralysimg uncertainty of “i’m never going to be able to do a whole slope”. In just a session yesterday i already progressed more than in years before. can’t wait next session to continue !!

Incredibly awesome exercise - unbelievable! Malcom, I only had to watch 5-6 videos from your channel and I could snowboard better on the next first run than after 1 week of self-training. Thanks for that. But with this video here you have blown up everything. I watched it in the evening, remembered the exercise on the next morning and stubbornly pulled through the first downhill 10 minutes. Then went back up and Whamm, then in free alternation Standard and Goofy driven. I didn't even know which type I have been before. Unbelievably simple exercise - with an unbelievable !!! success In each turn I said "Copy" and "paste" to myself. And now both direction are identic. AWESOME! THANKS

Thanks man, been boarding for over 10 years and was all about switch a few years ago when I spent more time in the park but spent most of the last couple of years skiing and healing from injuries (tennis and skateboarding) and this year got a new board and found I had forgotten how to ride switch, due to all the skateboarding as part of my rehab my body was even more reluctant to go switch than the first time I learned. The intro basic exercise was a perfect reminder just to think about mirroring. Can carve switch after a day of practice but still leery of switch hopping and jumping switched so have more to work on.

Worked great on about 6"-8" of average snow starts to struggle a bit past 8". ru-vid.comUgkxoHYZbq5g9fkcAtinlTqstNlje-UQkCHN Very light weight and the chute spin control works well. For the low price you get a ton of value. My only complaint is managing the cord as it does take a fair bit of effort to watch and pull the cord out of the way. I found myself having to whip the cord out of the way a lot when I needed to make one way passes to mange the blow direction. It's less of an issue when you can work both directions. A battery powered version would be a lot easier to handle but that is also double the price and requires battery care. I chose the corded version so I didn't have to worry about batteries but I do now see how much work the cord is. I let my neighbor borrow it and it outperformed his smaller gas blower, he was totally sold. Very pleased with the power and operations. My only suggestion is to spend a bit more on a cordless version if you have budget for it. The cord is a bit more of a headache than I thought it would be. Very pleased with the Snow Joe brand and quality.

I feel like nowdays everybody have a more philosophical approach with much more fear injected in learning. Relax and try and try againg untill you learn and figure out the details. Even this guy said that it will be much more solid if you figure out by yourself.

Same here! I’ve been practicing my switch riding before watching this video and I always start my switch runs with a few 180 spins. It helps my switch foot to mimic the movements of my regular foot. However, my struggle is my toe edge turns when I ride switch. When I started snowboarding in my regular stance, toe edge turns came naturally, I only struggled with the heel edge turn. When I ride switch, I almost can’t turn on my toe edge without kicking with my back foot. I’ll try this exercice, hopefully I can get my toe edge turn corrected!

This is doing wonders! I mastered the heel turn quite quickly but the switch toe turn has been my weakness. Now I’ve been practicing the second part of the exercise for 2 hours and I totally get what you are saying, Thant when doing a correct regular toe turn before every switch toe turn I can correct my self and feel the difference, hence teaching my self. I found that I was late in my edge change and ended up spending way to much time with a flat base in the fall line. Now I’m starting to feel much more comfortable and much more aware of my edges with the reverts. After this break it’s time to link it all together. PS love the vibe of the music as well 😊😊

Thanks for your tips mate. Switch is tough but absolutely necessary. I’m at the point where it’s the only thing holding me back. Cheers

As someone who rides goofy, this video is a total mind melt. Trying to convert your regular riding to my goofy switch and my goofy regular to your regular switch is a really confusing, lol. Don't get me wrong, the video is excellent and I can't wait to try this drill... but for someone that is goofy, it's tricky to see what's happening here.

Tried this on my last day in Tignes recently. Surprised how quickly the reverts came, heelside is very comfortable now, need to work on the toe side ones. Just need a bit of commitment and should be doing 180s in no time! Oddly reverting from switch to regular felt really natural, had to stop and think about what I was doing to make it work from regular to switch.

1 week and I will learn to ride switch with the help of your video. Im very confident it will work well, because i used alot of your technique-guides to learn carve, turns and stuff. Maybe I can learn to jump 180's too. We will see 😅 keep up the good videos ! you really are a better instructor and thats even for free, thank you very much !

I find switch SO much easier than normal turns, I can go much faster while maintaining control and never fall over. I quite often slam the back of my head off the ground trying to do toeside turns. Switch feels much more natural to me.

Great video. It would be useful to include recommendations about the angle settings of the bindings as I guess it is different when you fully ride switch or you only ride goofy/regular

This video is freaking gold. I've had to watch it several times and have caught a switch heel edge twice at significant speed right in front of the lodge lol The thing that's finally clicked the most has been " look where you're going and extend your back leg " really big moment right there.

im a skateboarder and this helped me way more then those "teaching videos" from my community. they try teaching and end up doing switch kickflip and such. way to complex for someone learning to just ride.
