Nope... that's heat damage in the beginning of the video...she states this client had no relaxer in 4 years😳. If the average hair grows about 6 inches a year and you trim about 1/2 inch every 3-4 months thats equal to 2-3 inches off per year that's 3-4 inches of retention. That heat damage...wearing too straight too often.
Am I the only European with straight hair fascinated by these types of hair treatments. The girls are all beautiful leaving their hair natural or straightened. The presenter has a lovely soothing voice you can tell she really cares about the care of the hair.
Nope. White lady hairdresser here. We're not given enough opportunity to learn on natural hair. I am obsessed with the textures. I have 3C and 4C mannequins. I am prepared if a client wants to let me do my thing.
I hate to break it to you all, but if you get your hair flat ironed regularly you get a lot of the straight ends. This is especially true if you don't have a super coarse texture of hair. Its kind of unavoidable unless you don't regularly press your hair. Those of you who just started wearing natural hair recently and wear it curly all the time don't know what those of us who have been wearing a press n curl for 30 plus years know, this is what regularly pressed hair looks like natural, it will lose some of the curl and be "heat damaged" as you all call it, but I don't consider it that way, my hair has been that way with curls and some straight pieces for 30 years, yet my hair is down my back and very silky. And I don't chop off my straight strands, i leave them and just get a trim 2 to 3 times a year. You can't have the same expectations of perfect uniform curls on someone who regularly gets a press, for many of us we do get straight strands but still have gorgeous hair that grows.
Agreed, thank you for sharing. This is to be expected from hair that is regularly flat ironed. For ladies who wear stretched hair all the time, and not wash and go styles, they are usually not bothered by loosen curls... The preference of the wearer is what matters.
ggsnaps that’s true.. I’ve stopped relaxing for one year now and it’s so refreshing to see my natural curls. I’ve snipped off my straight ends and since I have type 3 hair, I’m so careful with heat styling and flat ironing.
I know right... I was like am I mistaken or is this heat damage. She should've mentioned that in the video, I feel betrayed now lol. Update: I heard her mention the damage at the end so , maybe I missed it at the beginning.
You are truly amazing Lena! Thank you for taking the time out to share your wonderful tips and tricks with us. God bless you. I wish you all the success in life. Thank you.
Girl You Did An Amazing Job And You Give All The Details And What Kinds Of Irons To Use For Your Hair And Products To Use In Your Hair To Keep It Moisturize And Dryer. Thank You So Much For Your Video
ayamejoy no, at the end of the video I explained we cut the damaged ends. As long as she continues to get it professionally straighten, she won't have a problem.
@@kloviedash4648 and that's okay. it may not be everyone's cup of tea but right now she may not be ready to do a big chop and is more comfortable with doing it bit by bit.
I needed that tutorial... My daughter and granddaughter have 4C hair and I would like to silk press it and give then the care free styles I know they need... Thanks bunches...
wonderful video Lena! What I especially loved about your video was the time and care that you spent with her hair prior to flat ironing it. I sent your video to my stylist who does a great job on my hair but sometimes I feel like he's rushing through my hair and not using the proper treatment prior to using the hot comb and flat iron. Prior to all of that, once he has washed my hair, he has me sit under the dryer and my hair dries really fast. He uses a cooler temperature when drying my hair now because it was way too hot initially and I was constantly lifting the dryer from my head. And my scalp tend to be flakey which I did. oh see on any of the girls who were having their hair done. I had my hair flat ironed two weeks ago and at the end of one week, it was looking very dull and in need of a curling iron on the ends. Thankfully I have an hair appointment tomorrow. Thank you for sharing your video and your expertise.
Hi if your still giving advice I need help. So my blow out comes out pretty straight and when I flat iron my hair it gets really straight but it doesn't bounce or move barely its pretty stiff. My hair type is 3c/4a in the front and 4b in the back and its pretty thick I have been natural all my life
I’ve been scared of round brushes ever since I was a kid 😬 I let a friend of mine try to “do my hair” and she got it stuck in my hair!!!!! I haven’t been near one since 😅😂
4yrs?? So she has heat damage?? I’m coming up on 4 yrs in 3days and my hair is down to my elbow after a wash. Can’t wait until my first silk press! Good job!
Her hair looks like mine when it's wet and silked out...I had my hair professionally done and my curls were back poppin...Product build up can cause that stringy look as well as heat damage...I wouldn't be so quick to grab the scissors especially if the person just needs a good wash....beautiful job!!
Wht can I use on my hair. I'm Irish and Cherokee and my hair is soooo frizzy but everything I use makes my hair very very oily..even WHN I use a defrizzer it goes right back 2being very frizzy.. It drives me batty my hair is very soft but very frizzy..plz help
Looks great I'm going to try the round brush next time I do my daughter's hair. I do her hair good but never can get it as straight as the hair stylists
Make sure you practice first on a mannequin because this brush can get tangled in the hair and cause major damage without experience. Let me know how it turns out😘
If I were to do this to my own hair what would be the difference with the blow dryer you use and the blow dryer with a comb and brush? Wouldn't that be easier to use? you did a wonderful job with her hair
Very pretty end results! *This just goes to prove that Natural hair does not AUTOMATICALLY equal Healthy hair! (Client appeared to have Heat damaged ends and shallow edges).
But the damage happened before she came to Ms. Lena. it was Not caused by her. However, if she continues to receive professional hair care/ products, I believe she can and will achieve healthy results in due time.😍
Heat damage is inevitable no matter what heat protection one uses if this is done over and over. Over time the hydrogen bond will be broken yo the point of no return and all elasticity will be list. Hair Knowledge University
Do you have a video explaining how much heat should be applied to natural hair according to hair texture and porosity? I would really love to see that one.
I would use a regular moisturizing conditioner that rinses out as well as the heat protectant. But Not a leave in conditioner, it will weigh the hair down. Hope this makes sense
Is a round hair brush good for fine hair? Mine has grown a good bit but I wish it was thick like my girls hair. They didn't get that from me. They have long thick hair. My oldest does anyway bit her lip sis is not far behind.
Are you able to put a link to the 1/2 inch flat iron that you're using. I have replayed your video more than a few times to try to get the name of the flat iron. I also went to go Google it. Still couldn't find it. But if you can put a link to buy this flat iron. I would greatly appreciate thar. Thank you. Also beautiful work!
Since this video I dropped my 1/2 inch iron and broke it😫 and I cant seem to find one anywhere, Ive had that iron for 5yrs so maybe they longer make it....it is the Solia "C" shaped travel size iron...PLEASE let me know if you are able to find it in your search❤
What hair type is this? This looks similar to my daughters hair. Especially when I seen it parted. Thanks for the tips, I’m going to apply this to my daughter hair.
Can someone please educate me on the difference between this and getting a wash and set from the Dominicans. I am natural & I keep hearing about this silk press for natural hair but it looks exactly the same as when I get a wash and set. They blow out then flat iron just the same so its still the same amount of hear on my hair. So what are the benefits and differences of a silk press vs. a wash and set?
Stephanie I honestly cant answer about the Dominican salon, ive never been and have only heard rumors about different things they use. But for me personally the difference is the type of products that are used. The silk press takes more concentrated products to give off the silky bouncy look and feel
Nice ,I'm going to use these products and technique for my hair . I'm still not sure about the paddle brush or that round brush . I've never used a brush in my hair ,just a pick or wide tooth comb.
Lena, I’m new here.. what products would you recommend to care for and protect your natural type 2 hair from future heat damage after silk pressing? Thanks Miss Lena. 🌺
Lena B thanks for the love Miss Lena.. right back at ya! ♥️ Thanks also for the CHI products advice. That’s awesome. 👍🏼 Oh sorry my hair is a type 3 not 2.
Miss Lena, I just wished my hair would stay straight after I go outdoors after I flat iron. . As soon as the moisture in the air gets to it.. it’s goodbye straight hair. I love my natural type 3 curls but I prefer to not wear them to work; so I end up putting my hair in a ponytail. One year ago, my hair was at my ear length.. now it’s at my collarbone. So it’s growing slowly but it’s such hard work to maintain it. I trim every two weeks and all my previous relaxer ends are all gone. I’m going to purchase the CHI products and maybe Kenya Moore’s products and the flatirons you use as well. Thanks Lena! 🙌🏼
Thanks so much for sharing this hairdo process. I didn't think that our hair (Negroid Natural) could get straight like that without a chemical relaxer. I'm not fond of chemicals, so this was extremely helpful for me to watch.
Ms.Lena I have to say you did a excellent job very detailed I have natural hair I'm 5yrs old been doing my own I'm scare to do my own Flat Iron tho But you did your Damn thang Wishing you many Blessings iv learn alot from your Video 🕊🙏🦋💯🌟
So, how did you wash it? I think I am using too much product, because my hair is thick but I can never get it straight like this on my own. It comes out thick straight and it looks like a blow out at the end.
I like to get my hair silk pressed, but every time I do, the stylist puts too much heat on it. Can I get my ends trimmed without getting a silk press. My hair is very soft.
Your ends are probably already damaged before the heat. Yes you can trim hair in its natural state but once you straighten it you will see that it isn't even
I have terrible hair. Ive worn it permed, pressed, and curled. Truth be told im getting to the point where im just going to cut it off! Im not though. Need lessons in flat ironing my hair. I wear glasses so as im doing my hair i get a headache🤦. Any suggestions?
Hey Lena, I just watched this video and have a question or 2 for you... first, can this be used on “white” girl hair..I hate to say it like that.. ugh.. I have Very long, very thick, very course and very curly hair. Reminds a few hair dressers of a horses hair.. the crap that’s out there wether it’s over the counter, or professional
Lena, thank you so much. Now, one more thing.. where can I get it done or, can I do it myself? Btw. I love your videos, it’s obvious that you are very interested in letting us all know exactly how to do this right! Thank you for your time....
