How to Correctly Wire Led 3rd Brake Light Leer Topper Dodge Ram 2500. Using the factory wire harness, located to the left of the spare tire. White wire with tan or brown stripe.
Thank you for the VERY helpful video. My son and I were trying to find a video to show us the do's and don't's of wiring up the dome light and the high mount brake light on his 2007 Dodge Ram 1500 Quad cab Big Horn with a Vision camper shell. Your video told us exactly what we needed to know. It was a quick and easy job thanks to the information you provided. Ours works great, and you helped us avoid several pitfalls. Thank you!
Thanks. Prior owner had hooked up to break lamp, either the signal bulb burned out twice a year or the Light Out would show up on the dash. Easy fix. Thanks to you and a few others - this was to easy after years of messing with bulbs.
Nice video man. Was dreading having to do any electrical work to my truck. I had to call that company about the light on my topper and the guy that answered the phone was very helpful.
Thanks. I added a middle brake light to my Leer top. I found the white wire. That saved me a lot of time. Warning to people buying a brakelight from amazon. The red had to go to ground, the black to the white wire.
Thank you for this video. I have a 2014 1500. I tried everything to get my hitch light to work. I found that wire and wired my hitch ram light. 2 thumbs up.
Wow, youtube has everything. I bought an '03 2500 Ram in February and in May I finally located a topper, long bed third gen Ram toppers are hard to find. Truck is light gold, top is light silver, not too bad. I just used the numbers on the locks to order more keys from an Ebay seller, same with the Thule Roof rack keys for it. (Yes, it has the optional Thule Roof rack system and crossbars) Thanks a million for this, I looked, yep the wire is there. Tomorrows project is to wire up the third brake light, I put one in the hitch receiver, it has electronics to prevent flashing, just plugs into the 4 pin trailer connector underneath. I have to remove it when I tow but really like having it. Thank you, thank you, thank you.........................
Thanks for the upload! I have a 2000 Dodge Dakota with a leer camper shell/cap and my ch- cord was on the passenger side. This made it very easy to work with...
I tripped across this video for a different reason but still for hooking up a light. It is great I came across it that wire was in my truck and it works awesome for the ram emblem on a tailgate to light up.
Thank you for the tip! It worked, but my 3rd brake wire was routed on the passenger side. Nevertheless, I would’ve never figure it out without your video.
Nice vid! At the mines we run Dodge trucks and that's because they outlast Ford and GM. We test them all every year and I swear it's amazing to see Dodge beats them both each year. That is so cool they ran the wire for you, that's the kind of stuff we find with Ram trucks, they are so awesome. Great engineering. I think they get a bad wrap because Ford and GM owners can't stand Ram is better so they bad mouth them.
Awesome video. Only thing is that the camper shell that i bought used has one black wire and one wire that is colored both black and white. Im not sure which one to plug the 12v white and tan wire into.
Hi how are you doing? Great Video. Just wondering why do you have two wires grounded? I know one is for the 3rd brake light,is the second ground for an interior light or something else? Thank you very much..
Hi My friend gave me a pickup bed topper for my 04 ram he said it was on a 02 ram It fits perfect length but the height is short Its not flush with top of cab its about 1.5'inches too low..... I dont like how it looks.....should be flush with cab top.......any ideas how to raise it 1.5 inches? I was thinking a 2x4 on bottom of topper perimeter but would have to modify rearvwindow somehow.....must be economical Any ideas?
all pickup trucks that have a third brake light on the back of their cab have a third brake light wire running to the back bumper just like dodge , Ford Chevy Mazda Toyota all of them have that same wire
it was federal law that all pickup trucks manufactured after 1994 must have a third brake light on the back of the cab , and the federal law also requires all manufacturers to run a third brake light wire to the back bumper for canopies and camper toppers
LOL ! I have to ask the obvious Jeremy . . . . . . if it isn't called a ' topper ' how did you know what was being talked about ? Lighten up it's all good . =-)
