Learn how wide to cut your Fabric when creating Rag Rugs! From Bed Sheets to Upholstery fabric, to Denim, Lora teaches you how wide to cut your fabric in preparation for your rug! @RagstoRugsbyLora
Hi from South Africa, thanks for this video. I've been crocheting rugs for a few years now. Actually it started because I needed to get rid of my "thread bear" linen 🤣 I couldn't throw it out. But I found by cutting it all the same width I struggled at times. I never thought that I could mix the widths up, it makes sense now. We love them so much, oh and I threw them in the washing machine 🤣 they wash up wonderfully. Thank you and God bless
Thank you for this short but informative video. I’m wondering if you could do one showing the fabric then a rug made with that fabric. For example one with denim, one with upholstery fabric, old sheets and so on. 😊❤
I love your videos and just subscribed. You are delightful to listen to and uplift my spirits while you teach me how to make rag-rugs. I was wondering how wide you would cut tee-shirt strips for a peg loom. I just cut some at 1 and 1/2 inches wide. Is that wide enough? Thank you so much. You do THE best rag-rug videos I've seen on RU-vid
WOW! Thank YOU for uplifting MY spirits! Your kind words mean a lot to me! Much appreciated! 1 1/2" width for your strips is a good width. You could consider going up to 2" but I probably wouldn't go any wider. Thanks for reaching out & thank you for your subscription. Hope you'll continue to stay in touch!! Have a wonderful day!
I tear my sheets in one inch strips or close too. It works out for a not so thick rug or lower pile for me. I also think i crochet fairly tight too tho.
Hello, Gayle! Yes, for the most part I use 2" width (sometimes 2 1/2" for those thread bare sheets! LOL) but I've cut mine to about 1 1/2" when working with those heavier (or thicker) fabrics! Hoping you'll stay in touch!
Fascinating and really helpful thank you! I’m about to use some heavy curtaining, some poly cotton sheets and some really really light horrid poly/nylon curtain fabrics and was wondering how to incorporate them. I’m planning to use a peg loom, I assume the same applies for this method please?
Hello & Thank you! I positively love incorporating many different colors & types of fabrics. I call it "painting with fabrics"! We're artists & doing our part of keeping undue waste out of landfills. Those curtains & bedsheets can be used in some BEAUTIFUL rugs! Yes! The same applies to all methods of rug-making! "The heavier the fabric - the narrower your strips" "The lighter the fabric - the wider your strips" Upholstery fabric is normally considered heavy. I wish you well with your loom project! And hope you'll stay in touch!
Thanks for reaching out! Here's a video I think you will enjoy!! How to connect your fabric strips! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6U62a8SAyK4.html
Hello PattiJ! I prefer bias cut fabric strips for my rugs & placemats. However, ANY usuable goods are used in my projects. Bias Cut or Straight! How about YOU?
Hello, Kippy! Thank you for reaching out! Yes! You absolutely can! I mix&match widths all the time! Lighter weight fabrics = wider; Heavier weight fabrics = narrower.
Hello, Melanie! YES! Fleece works up nicely in the rugs! You might consider cutting your strips to 1 1/4" - 1 1/2" wide when working with fleece. It soft & easy to work. You just need to consider the strip width! Have FUN!! (And send us a picture of your finished rug!
