My grandparents live in Ikaria island in Greece, a place characterized as a blue zone. They're 105 and 108 years old, respectively, no health problems, perfect memory, don't wear eye glasses, no mobility issues. They basically eat meat (especially lamb), indigenous fruits, greek honey, yogurt, eggs, olive oil, tomatoes and some vegetable but not too much, drink coffee, a little bit of red wine occasionally. They wake up early in the morning, go to sleep around 22: 00 and they never eat after 19: 00. They also walk a lot.

Happiness and longevity have nothing to do with each other. Focusing all day long on your diet, fasting, exercise and looking in the mirror doesn't make anybody happy even if it made you live to be 120. It takes a lot more than that to feel happy and fulfilled.

Quite so, however many people thrive on keto and carnivore lifestyles. We are not all the same. In any case, the avoidance of sugar, modern wheat/flour, and so called vegetable oils/canola, sunflower, crisco etc will be of enormous benefit in reversing inflammation, DT2, non alcoholic fatty liver disease or maintaining insulin sensitivity and cellular health.

The traditional Inuit diet does include some berries, seaweed and plants, but a carnivorous diet can supply all the essential nutrients, provided you eat the whole animal, and eat it raw. Average life span 60-65.

The problem with these kinds of statements is that most people like 99% will die of some disease and will not make it to 105. There are always exceptions to the rule. But we know for a fact that eating that way doesn't work!!! If it did we all would live to 105.

Glad your grandfather lived such a life. I agree with leaving toxic people, because many of us are empaths without realising it, and take on their toxicity. We attach to people, and they attach to us, and parasitic people will drain your energy and pass negative energy to you. If there is anything that feels wrong, leave the relationship peacefully. Don't ever get guilt tripped into staying because you will be affected by the toxicity, however well you eat, exercise, sleep etc. Best thing I ever did was to move away from negative people who I thought were 'friends', and spend more time alone and with my pets.

He is doing so many things and taking so many supplements that it is very difficult to tell what is helping. Maybe its not what he is eating (vegan) or not eating (meat) that is important, but fasting may be the most important. Certainly cutting out sugar, processed food, and seed oil really helps. Don't make it complicated. The most important things centanarians in blue zones have in common are 1. Purpose in life 2. Strong family/ social support with sense of belonging and happiness 3. Always moving and doing things 4. Not too much stress 5. Don't eat by the clock (not all of them are vegetarians or vegan) . Food does not appear to be the most important factor.

100% agreed. sugar and food consisting of almost only carbs (like cookies or white bread with jam) are just sugar dips. it's terrible for work, you'll fall asleep on the couch, grow fat, and things will get worse from there. And indeed, purpose and a social life is good for our hormones.

It is always beneficial to hear one man's conclusions. The admonitions against habitual drinking, in favor of exercise, low sugar and refined carbs, are excellent (one guy's opinion). I am 62 and have run about an hour daily since 19, early in the morning, after study. Not sure I agree with the intense interval crowd. My workout has taken on more and more the nature of meditation through the years. Good sleep, interval fasting, moderate consumption -all excellent ideas. One might add self-sacrificial social interaction. After all, life is about far more than just living (though I suppose not less).

I do a light weight routine, A short (30 min) yoga routine with 160 crunches(2 sets of 80) and 80 pushups(2 sets of 40) 3 times a week, ride an exercise bike an hour 5 days a week and walk 30-60 minutes most days. Later this year, I hope to start jogging again. I used to jog about 3.5 miles every other day.

Angela... Ah, finally a voice of reason. Too many espouse extremist diets on YT. You have listed the rational human dietary rules that most of us should follow. Eat ORGANIC whole foods, drink good water (bottled for me as the tap water in Toms River, NJ tastes like it 's from the clubhouse swimming pool), avoid simple sugar loaded or producing, carbohydrates, get a good night's rest and exercise between 3-5X/ week, including weights and cardio, get some daily sunlight and try not to be nasty. It's also beneficial to have a daily fast of at least 12 hours in a 24 hour period. Maybe even longer. I think your body appreciates a break from gluttony. The U.S. population, as a whole, is brutally overweight, particularly girls in the 20-35 year range. It's totally sad. Good friend of mine was overweight, had the band put on his stomach/intestine area, then lost a bunch of weight. The band started to make him nauseous so he had it removed and had his stomach stapled. Much more serious surgery Almost immediately started gaining weight and is now over 300 pounds @ 5'6". No surgery will correct your poor eating habits. You need your brain to do that. That is what I strive for. Sometimes my brain let's me down, but I win most of the time.

Watching these videos has opened my eyes to a few things, and I might as well try them. I ordered Resveratrol yesterday and I'm going to try to drink more water. But, as my 92nd birthday comes around in November, with not one medical prescription other than eye drops, the main thing to do if you want to live a long and healthy life, I think, is to think positive and program your brain. 🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation: 00:00 🤖 Dr. David Sinclair, a Harvard genetics professor, has adopted a diet and lifestyle that has made him biologically younger, with improved health markers compared to his earlier years. 01:09 🛡️ To slow down aging, exercise vigorously three times a week until you lose your breath, which stimulates positive bodily responses, like muscle growth and better blood flow. 01:52 🥦 The most important eating habit for longevity is to eat less often and reduce the daily eating window. Dr. Sinclair prefers a six-hour eating window and often skips meals. 02:32 💊 Intermittent fasting, with at least 16 hours of not eating, boosts the body's defenses against aging and promotes autophagy, a cellular recycling process. 04:35 🍃 Dr. Sinclair focuses on "stress plants," like colorful vegetables and green tea, rich in polyphenols, which activate the body's defenses against aging. 08:28 💊 Dr. Sinclair takes three supplements daily: Resveratrol, NMN (a form of vitamin B3), and Metformin, which may support longevity and improve health. 10:18 🚫 To promote longevity, cut down on sugar, particularly fructose, which can lead to fatty liver disease and other health issues. 11:53 🍞 Dr. Sinclair eliminated bread from his diet, as it can cause blood sugar spikes and crashes, leading to hunger and brain fog. 12:49 🥩 He reduced meat consumption in favor of plant-based proteins, as plants offer better longevity benefits with their amino acid ratios. 13:45 🥛 Dr. Sinclair also cut out dairy, further improving his health markers, possibly due to a reduction in overall protein intake. 14:14 🍷 He stopped drinking alcohol daily, emphasizing the importance of choosing red wine varieties like Pinot Noir for their Resveratrol content. Cuts out meat, cuts out dairy cuts out bread....and is obsessed with what he eats ....obsessed with self. Suggestion: there are organizations out there who desperately need volunteers....obsess about helping others and you will not have to worry so much about yourself. No such thing about slowing down aging. Just be sensible and all in moderation.

These are helpful tips. Also In the Buddhist sriptures it is mentioned that eating exessive amounts of food reduces lifespan. Also It is said that lifespan is mostly related to karma (your mental verbal and physical actions). There is a Sutta in the Buddhist cannon that explains this called “Chakkavatti Sihanada Sutta”. Where the Buddha explains how lifespan decreases in periods of desreasing human virtues and how lifespn increases in periods of increasing virtues. It is an interesting read. It is said that currently the lifespan is at a maximum of 120 years. Buddhist texts also show some specific good karma for extending lifespan such as saving humans and animals from dying, offering pure water to others etc and being happy about this good karma done. Couldnt hurt giving them a try also. These days thanks to science we are having a little longer to live. however in the long run what needs to happen is society to become more virtuous.

Exercise-three times a week for ten minutes where you lose your breath. Eating habits- two meals with a six hour gap 12PM & 6PM, no snacking, allow fasting 18 hours and atophagy (Repairs)occurs, hunger stops. Foods to eat- plant food organics, stress plants, polyphenols, colors, matcha tea, spinach, olive oil, mediterranean diet. Supplements to takes- resveratrol, NMN, metformin a drug Foods to avoid- sugar, avoid fruit juices, processed foods, use monk fruit, allulose, stevia etc. no chemical sweetener. Avoid meats? Avoid alcohol, if you can’t, drink Pinot Noir it’s the best stress wine. Avoid dairy. This is just me: If you do meat grass fed-finished. Salmon is the best fish. All seafood shell fish have great properties, 4oz though. If you do dairy, organic heavy whipping cream has no sugar, hard non pasteurized cheeses, eggs pasture fed are better. Good stuff! Note: I do Dr. Bergs Healthy Keto diet. Lost 30 lbs. low carb diet increased carb to stay at or below 160, I’m 5’9”, 70 years old. All my numbers are very good. I just want to stay active. There are ups and downs. The science is real interesting about his diet.

@@patrickokeeffe4787 I do that with some fasting. We don't need plants on a day to day basis. Most if not all nutritents should be covered by animal sources. I do however, believe an occasional (like a couple times per month) "plant-bomb" which stress our body like exericses do to us can be beneficial. No it is not different for everyone. We are all of the same species. Homo sapiens. We are designed to be carnivores. You do not get to choose what is good for you to eat. Your body is designed by the adaptational means in which the stressors superimposed onto the body. This is not rocket science. Processed foods slowly kills you by cellular damage. Grains slowly kill you by cellular damage. Plants, slowly kill you by cellular damage. Fruits slowly kill you by cellular damage. These all do damage on the body. This is well known.

It’s about understanding yourself, your body and search for what works for you. The one thing I agree with the various restorative health specialist that will work for most people, is moderation and limiting frequency of meals. Everything else is based on each individual need.

Dr. Sinclair prefers a six-hour eating window and often skips meals. 02:32 Intermittent fasting, with at least 16 hours of not eating, boosts the body's defenses against aging and promotes autophagy, a cellular recycling process. 04:35 Dr. Sinclair focuses on "stress plants," like colorful vegetables and green tea, rich in polyphenols, which activate the body's defenses against aging. 08:28 Dr. Sinclair takes three supplements daily: Resveratrol, NMN (a form of vitamin B3), and Metformin, which may support longevity and improve health. 10:18 To promote longevity, cut down on sugar, particularly fructose, which can lead to fatty liver disease and other health issues. 11:53 Dr. Sinclair eliminated bread from his diet, as it can cause blood sugar spikes and crashes, leading to hunger and brain fog. 12:49 He reduced meat consumption in favor of plant-based proteins, as plants offer better longevity benefits with their amino acid ratios. 13:45 Dr. Sinclair also cut out dairy, further improving his health markers, possibly due to a reduction in overall protein intake. 14:14 He stopped drinking alcohol daily, emphasizing the importance of choosing red wine varieties like Pinot Noir for their Resveratrol content. Taking a drug like Metformin for no medical reason is ridiculous. I would ignore that advice. I have an elderly relative that was taken off of it due to low kidney function. So in other words, it’s not good to recommend someone take a drug like you take a vitamin. Then the part about eating very little protein….in the long run, he might end up with hair and skin problems. I do like the part about daily fasting for 16 hours. That was good advice.

Dr. Sinclair's research is interesting and I'm sure it works for him, however what's his daily lifestyle? Is navigating public transportation? Walking/running for buses heading to the L up and down stairs in and out of the subway then walking 3city blocks across heavy traffic to his office? Or relating that scenario with a bag of groceries and your work tote in all times of weather? Food is fuel and FUN. Eat for your lifestyle. Eat sensibly, cook your meals mostly, take your lunch, eat when your hungry, drink water, view sweets &wine as treats, if you need a glass of wine or a delicious slice of cake after a stressful work week ENJOY it! Food is one of the pleasure s of life. Exercise and don't glutton yourself but HAVE FUN! laugh everyday, be in nature everyday- if it's only your backyard, count your blessings, take full bodied deep breaths then exhale, SING, limit your time with toxic people and DANCE -move your body! Besides a little something sweet or starchy maybe the spark you need. ENJOY

It would be interesting to know where Sinclair was sourcing his dairy? If in America, it would factory raised beef, which live an unnatural life, and are fed highly unnatural foods. I live in Ecuador, where all the beef are pasture raised, which means they live out in the sunlight, and eat anything and everything in the pasture, weeds, grasses, small plants etc. Dr. Berg has shown results of lab studies showing the meat of such cattle to leave advantageous blood markers. There was also an excellent study showing the only really healthy fat to use was either beet fat or butter / ghee, and especially from pasture raised beef. I use a lot of dairy, and am noticing improvements in my long slow recovered from a severe case of burn out and adrenal fatigue.
@xtrwq

It doesn't matter where/how they are raised, processed meat is carcinogenic and red meat is probably carcinogenic as per the WHO. Berg usually misrepresents the studies he cites and doesn't understand them.

everyone is different plants are the best for us, but human are carnivores, so meat is ok. Dr. Berg is a BG meat eater, bacon, etc. because he is on the KETO diet so he perports beef eating, I think it is inhumane to eat animals. Can you walk up to a cow who has peacefully been eating grass and kill it to eat it? I could not do that!!! Anyway good luck with your beefy dairy filled diet.

it's just one person, but I've been eating in a similar manner for 10 years. Very little highly processed foods, mostly plant foods - lots of vegetables, including beans and brown rice. Lots of decaf coffee and tea. Small amount of alcohol but not daily. Exercise moderately daily (mostly walking). Rarely bread or pasta. small amount of wild sardines twice a week. BMI of 25 (could be a bit better). 69 yo. On no drugs. Levine Phenoage consistently in low 50s since if been testing last 3 years. Big believer in routine blood labs. Make sure inflammation markers are very low, Common marker is hsCRP. Same for ApoB (best lipid marker) . Know your kidney and liver function numbers. Same with HbA1c and insulin which should both be very low and are not often checked by physicians. Over time learn how to read all the results.

ive already been doing this without actually knowing all this..... its just my natural inclination or habit of not really feeling hungry in the morning and sometimes into the afternoon..... also saves time instead of spending 2 hours either hunting for food or preparing food... and then being bloated or full slowing you down and getting you sleepy during midday i rarely eat morning breakfast and im flexible too..... oh and of course i can pig out on occasions!! but then again i cancel that out by being supremely active everyday and again im flexible with being active, if im less active a week, im aware of this when im eating or choosing to eat so im in that phase where im automatically regulating

I think I do most of these. I still drink from time to time, but usually no more than 2 drinks, and usually Rye or Scotch whisky. I eat bread, and I eat berries. I do add brown sugar to oatmeal, but it’s literally a pinch for flavour. I’ve intermittent fasted since about the age of 6 (maybe?) because I don’t like eating close to going to bed and I’m never hungry until at least 3 hours after waking up… depending on if it’s a workout morning (I’ll be quite hungry soon after a workout). For me, the most filling things are bread + oatmeal and/or tofu. I can probably go 20 hours on just 500-1000 calories of that (although I don’t calorie count or try to purposely restrict calories). I exercise every day, although only 2-3 of those days are high intensity. Mostly, I do low intensity aerobics and stretches.

Since 1998, I've fasted from sunup to sundown. Every. Single. Day. My daughter says I'm not 50, and that I look way younger. Not sure if it's the fasting, but I'm almost shredded, and I do not workout. Some stretches in the morning for less than three minutes, then yogurt, salad and light foods. Strange about my appearance, since before then I drank whiskey daily for years. Yet, ky blood pressure is low, my mood is great daily, and any stress (which was GIGANTIC at the time), I've learned to kill off with a positive morning mantra. Stress and overeating are the worst for longevity. Moving to Greece later this year, amd hoping to improve even further.

I'm 41 y.o. asian woman. I lived my 20s up to late 30s with similar diet; plant base, rice, soya base, fish. I was healthy and satisfied with myself, until the last two years. I moved to Germany and started to adjust my diet with local foods. I eat more meat. A lot more. I consume olive oil and butter but no seed oil. And surprisingly I find myself even better than before. Hairloss stopped, mood swing decreased significantly, muscles grow (I've been working out since late 20s), and feel strongest than ever! I still consume alot veggies and fruits. I'm not an expert but I read alot of books about nutrition and I think we still get many nutritional advantages from animals.

Dont make your food some kind of weird personality Eat various vitamins nutrients sources. Try to take the most natural bio stuff And exercice and sleep well And note that we are not immortal. So its normal you will feel bad after a certain age. Cause just like all living beings we have a expiration date. Just like fruits, /here is a timing where we slowly but surely start to rot till we are no more and qlso that there is something call genetics. Where you can be lucky or unlucky on certains aspects

So would you rather have a long, miserable life or a short, happy one? I choose the latter, preferring quality over quantity. BTW, I'm 67 yrs old, I eat and drink whatever I like and don't exercise more than necessary, such as repairing or maintaining the motorhome we live in, traveling the country. I take no prescription drugs and am still healthy and strong. We're in Las Vegas now pigging out at the buffets. In fact, we'll be at another all-you-can eat sushi buffet tomorrow. If I die tonight, I've already packed more life in 67 years than I would if I lived to 100, suffering from painful exercise, enduring unnecessary hunger, and never getting to eat the food I enjoy. I survived all kinds of dangerous things in my life. I raced motorcycles, served in the Army. etc. and lived to tell the story. So, I'm going to enjoy what little time I have left as I see fit, rather than choosing to suffer longer on this earth than necessary. We all must die. This just means my travails and suffering of life will end a little sooner and I'll be with Jesus in heaven a little sooner.

I said “I went on a strict Keto diet with my husband, to support him and make it easier for me in the kitchen, so I don’t have to make different meals ”….. she immediately responded “get off that diet, right now, I’m giving you The Book, The Starch Solution, By Dr John McDougall … I have a copy in my office”…. I read the book in 3 days, went on the diet right away, in 6 months I’ve dropped 33lbs and within 3 months, my blood work was better than ever and A1C back down to 5.4…..(she said it will keep going down, but more slowly as I’m a menopausal 54 year old female, that’s also why I’m loosing weight slower than most, that’s normal for my age and gender)… Everyone is different… every human body is different…but my body can not tolerate animal fats, clearly….
