I went from not able to do a single muscle up to 3 in a row in 35 days. Sadly I injured my shoulder while I was training, but surprisingly I still achieved it!
I'm super proud of this and hope this inspires you to try out the muscle up as well!

Incredible video my guy!! Just a quick tip for the shoulder pain, you seemed to flare the elbows out a lot on a lot of the reps. Try focusing more on tucking them in when you're doing the dip at the top, will make a night and day difference on your shoulders and elbows! I made the same mistake too and hurt my shoulder. Keep going!!!

I got my first muscle up 2 weeks ago, now I can do 3 in a row with minimal leg drive,before starting you need to have 12-15 pull up and 20 dips , the key to this move is high pull up , you need to be explosive , if you can't pull to your upper abs you can't do it , that was my missing link , also you need some push strength to transition , the best way to train for it is to do jumping muscle up + negative . Just practice those two exercises , high pull up and jumping + negative muscle up , and you will get it .

I was trying to learn muscle up, because I thought, If I can easily do over 10 decent pull-ups I should be able to do a muscle up... LOL, totally not haha, I totally did not know the technique and tried to watch some videos on yt. Everybody was talking about the swing and all that shit, but You were the first one, who has shown me about the knees. This Inspired me to try again, we'll se in some time, If I will get this freakin muscle-up haha.

Nice video very informative especially with the dips definitely helps if your really strong at dips. Idk if you tried it yet but you could practice straight bar dips as wells since that what your doing at the top part of the muscle up.

Thanks! Yes I've tried doing that, but personally I felt that double bar dips are exercising my shoulder mobility more. Could be just my personal experience, but yeah definitely great suggestion!

I set myself a goal a while back for 15 muscle ups. So far I'm just priming with chin ups, pull ups and push ups. I'll mix dips into it. You just gave me motivation to speed up the process. Thank you!

When you got the shoulder pain I noticed the grip you were using it was kinda wide id go for a narrow grip that way your elbows line up with your joints

Thanks Feng, let me try your shoulder mobility dip. I can do all dips and pull ups but no muscle up....i weight 80kg...may be this is one of the problem 😆

Hey, man! I've recently learned to do muscle-ups too and It feels amazing to finally unlock this exercise as well, but yesterday I think I might have injured the region of my right shoulder while doing them. I feel slight pain in my side delt and brachialis when I raise my right arm in 90 degrees. I was just wondering if you felt the same pain when you injured yourself too. P.S. I'm not doing the chicken wing thing, I think my form is alright but still... Thanks. 🙂

First of all congrats! Sorry to hear that you got injured. I think the side delt part is pretty similar to what I've got, for that you can try to have a narrower grip width and focus on laying your chest over the bar. For the brachialis, I think it comes from doing too much pull ups and the pull ups will put a lot of tension on that muscle. I think you should take some rest for like a week or so and see how you feel. Those are based on my experience and study, I'm not a professional so you should probably see a PT if you still don't feel well after some rest. Good luck brother!

@@badward-feng Thanks for the response bro! I don't know how I will endure 1 week without training my muscle ups, because I got addicted on improving them, but better safe than sorry, hah. About the brachialis, I think you might be right because generally after I finish my muscle-ups, I do 5 sets of 8-10 weighted pull ups so I can build on my explosivity which is required for more clean muscle-ups, but the weird thing is I don't feel discomfort while doing pull-ups. I'll let it my body rest anyway. Keep up the good work and good luck on your next skill/exercise 🫡

Hey for sure man! Btw if you still wanna work on your pulling strength without too much pressure on the brachialis, you can try chin ups instead of pull ups. Chin ups will exercise more biceps and less brachialis.

i just cant seem to get my head around the 'around the bar' motion. I can do 10x 10kg weighted pull ups and i can do super low dips so i should be able to do a muscle up. I see you managed it with the knees kept high - i will give this a go...

Hey man yes, try keeping the knees up and pull yourself up as explosively as possible. It seems to me that you just need to pull yourself up a bit higher, which will be helped by the knees for sure.

A muscle up has nothing to do with the amount of pullups you can do. You only need pullup to perform a muscle up. Unfortunately that is an explosive high pullup with the bar touching under ur chest. Ur normal pullups basically don't matter 🎉

Yo, bro. I'm chinese too. How do you unlock your pull ups. I'm still struggling to do 3 chin ups, and maybe 2 pull ups. Do I train on inverted rows or banded pull up or negatives? I seem to stuck below 5 reps on these full body weight moves. I can knock down 30 push up easy.

First of all, you are doing great! Don't give up! I think if you can already do 3 chin ups or 2 pull ups, you don't need the resistance band. Just need to make sure you have good form (no swing + full range of motion) and practice pulling up every other day to try to do as many reps as possible, can maybe do 4 sets with 3 reps each. After that you can do the slow motion negatives and inverted rows.

You've already unlocked the pull-up since you can do more than one pull-up. It's only a matter of time before you can do more than 10 reps. Just keep working out to strengthen your upper body. If you want to do more pull-ups as quickly as possible, try doing pull-ups with your legs in front of the bar and your core tensed. This technique can make your body feel lighter.

Honestly I think it is necessary because those will exercise your explosive strength. Ultimately, whether you'll be able to do the muscle ups depends on how high you can pull, which can only be achieved if your pull ups are super explosive.

First of all, don’t give up, keep trying! I think you wanna figure out whether you don’t have the strength or you are just missing the technique. Typically if you can do ten strict form pull-ups you have the strength. If you have the strength, you should focus on the technique to create momentum (stretch forward then pull back while kipping the knees), as well as your shoulder mobility while doing the dips. This is actually a great question. I can make a video about this next.

Try to do those pull ups as high as possible and as explosively as possible. Then focus on generating the momentum with your legs as well as the transitions.
