The way I interpreted the video was that Idubbz is apologizing for his past content but knows you don't have to accept it. As well as separating himself from the biggoted community he let congregate in his fandom.

I think people forgot the purpose of apologizing. If you're going to apologize, you should do it because you realized you were in the wrong and shouldn't expect people to just accept it and applaud them. I'm black and Personally, I never watched nor was affected by his content and his apology isn't necessarily aimed towards me, so it's not up to me to accept it on behalf of the ones affected by his content and viewers. I watched idubbz when I was teenager and I get the analogy you were making about the marines. What he was putting out on the web in 2017 etc was the sort of thing that you either walked away from at the time or you fell down the rabbit hole. I'm sure there are alot of people now, who agreed and defended this rhetoric as kids, who are more hateful and intolerant because of it. He had a young and impressionable audience and gave them worst possible example to follow at an age where the majority of us know better.

I feel like a lot of the criticisms you bring up are valid but at the same time, he addressed some specifically ahead of time. Particularly with the apology and donations from this video not being enough and just being a small step forward. I think it’s fair to not accept the apology and move on and we’ll see where he goes from here. Was never a fan of idubbbz but I’ve seen him recently on Hasan’s stream and he seems to be growing as a person which is encouraging. Overall the more people that see that growth from someone like idubbbz is possible, the more of them that may consider growing themselves. That’s just my take
I definitely feel like there was a year after year progression I think the clip of him from 2022 is actually one of the most blatant examples of year after year progression. His audience has been turning on him since like 2020 or 2021 for being more progressive in his views on stuff like sex work as well. I think Charlie said that the way Idubbz was going about this before the apology, changing his content overtime was a good way to go about it and that this big apology after so many years was unneeded. He was saying, no one thought of Idubbz being an actual racist, if they did, he wouldnt be on the platform with such a big following and that Idubbz wasnt the first or the only one to make this type of content but still had an effect. It’s a well known thing that his community was more right leaning, conservative and racist, they were just young and apolitical. His impact has not been inconsequential to their current ideology. Look at the ones who are mad about him changing and the views they advocate for now as adults. He was the introductory course for many of them and they’ve talked about it and they’re staunch in those views.
I was a depressed teenager and videos like "Gentleman's Guide" and "Deadly Twister" were even in retrospect pretty funny and gave me a lot of joy at the time. The videos where iDubbbz was trying to make a point and talk about serious issues, on the other hand, were maybe not so tight. Anytime someone can apologise and own up to their behavior is a good thing. While you can sit up there and flash on a camera and give a "long" and "drawn-out" apology years later, it doesn't negate the impact of how their rhetoric of saying anything they wanted to say, was just a "freedom of speech" and not what it was actually, hate speech. Now a ton of kids, young and old adults that watched them, will go around and make this their excuse. Only because, they have millions of followers, "how can they be wrong?"

Shawn said it would have taken seeing effects of his content irl to understand. If he didn't see the consequences at his peak then he wouldn't have become remorseful, which is why he wasn't then. And maybe he talked more about Tana than black people because the Tana situation was an event that actually happened in his life, so it makes sense that he would talk about it directly a little bit more. It's also a situation he understands more.
Ryan Tana wasn't a "past-racist content creator", she said the n word like most white people do, she didn't put it in her content as something that's ok to say. She actually went back on it and tried to do what he was doing now and was literally preaching that white people shouldn't say it. But people like idubbbz who wanted to keep saying it tried to make her seem like a hypocrite by bringing up the fact that she'd said it before as a way to attack her. They did that often to silence people they disagreed with. Those "edgy" anti-sjw types would never attack their own or anyone that agrees with them. They only went after her because she was saying the opposite of what they were doing

I understand the cynicism some of y’all have regarding these types of things but I assure you people can change. -Ian isn’t asking for a clean slate, he literally says he should have to live with his mistakes for the rest of his life and acknowledges that an apology isn’t enough. Saying that someone isn’t sorry for what they did because they never would’ve done it is stupid. Do you not have regrets? If I told you that you aren’t really remorseful about ANY situation because you just wouldn’t have done it, would that be fair? -At his peak he wasn’t regretful because he genuinely believed that what he was doing wasn’t wrong. Is that an issue? Of course. But to then try to use this as a reason that people can’t change is ridiculous. -This last point also doesn’t make any sense because while this apology video may be the first time you’re seeing this, he’s discussed this already and apologized to the marginalized groups he targeted. He’s been on several podcasts, No Jumper, etc, and even within this apology video he acknowledges that “casual racism is still racism” and “casual bigotry is still bigotry.” He just apologizes to Tana as well because he literally harassed her personally. Your last paragraph is probably the wildest part of your entire spill tho but maybe that’s because I actually believe in rehabilitation and change and if you don’t then we can agree to disagree. But to lump in iDunbz and H3H3 with DramaAlert and Leafy is just wild and detached from reality. All of them were terrible back then (I would say Drama and Leafy were even worse if you could imagine, but still), the main point tho is that unlike Drama and Leafy, Ian and H3 have actually changed. Ian’s content has changed and he’s long since renounced that rhetoric he used to espouse, and H3’s content has changed DRAMATICALLY and he’s more popular now than when he made that other content. So yes while the effect of their past works won’t just go away, I don’t thinking drawing a hard line in the sand and not giving people the room to grow/change is really the way we as a community should go about this. As a black man I’ll never feel 100% comfortable just watching their content, but I definitely appreciate them walking back those statements and acknowledging the damage they caused, than for them to just double down on everything they’ve ever done like most ppl in their space does. If literal KKK members can change then so can they.
one idea I've always hated is the "you've already done so much damage that whatever you do to repair it now doesn't matter", that's so stupid. you don't have to praise them for doing what they can but the thing is that they are doing what they can to make things right. ofc everyone has the right to still hold anger towards them throughout their journey to do better because of the fact that the dmg was done in the first place, but its ridiculous to act like whatever they do means nothing at all.

they don't want idubbbz to die bro plus that wouldn't even solve anything. the damage that was made by idubbbz and his older videos has already been done and people have the right to not accept an apology. you may see that as harsh, but in my opinion you can witness genuine growth from someone (and i think idubbbz has) and still not be ok with the apology they give. you can't please everybody
