Okay now the awkward part. The radio that we used in the tutorial is James's QX7. But that radio has since gone out of production. The radio that I recommend to replace it is the RadioMaster TX16S. The screen is bigger and the buttons are nicer. But the hard part is that the screens won't look exactly like they do in the tutorial, even though both radios ARE running the same operating system and the setup steps are more or less the same.

Thanks JB for that motor direction quick check hack. I would stick a paper on the motor shaft and draw an arrow, but it always rips off. Nice little hack just holding a paper to the motor.

New to FPV, mostly simulator and a tinywhoop 85x I been flying for a few weeks. Just followed your build on this went pretty smooth. I just use the air unit to communicate with dji googles/remote. Perfect first build as the soldering to the esc has nice big pads or at least it felt that way. 2 problems I ran into. My Vifly smoke stop kept going red after I added the DJI air unit to the FC/ESC. Didn't realize it had a switch 1amp or 2amp. 2amp fixed it. Second you need to update dji air unit to same firmware as dji controller or it won't communicate in betaflight no matter what you try.

I am so stoked! Thank you for creating this tutorial. I'm a newbie. I have found the acronym's of this hobby to be difficult to unravel, like the term FPV. I have not heard any of the Drone sites actually say the words that make up fpv. In this vid I learned several new terms which helped me to understand. Awesome! Is there a list of proper terminology for all of the "Drone Language" that a newbie is confronted with? Thanks again!

11:51 when it have a nut at the other side is a bolt. At the other hand, when it creates its own threads or it is threaded into an existing thread, therefore, it is a screw.

For the countersink stack mounting bolts did you use the 10mm 16mm or 20mm if u still remember…

Just got the DC version of this frame. Nice piece, but holy shit.... the standoffs that come with it are cheap shit and the hardware is an absolute joke. 🙄 Do yourself a favor and just order replacements right now, because this is crap. Aside from that, very nice. The TPU camera isolators are also useless with the polar camera.

I use a solid 2.5 mm internal allen screw to set the press nuts; less likely to strip the dinky 2.0mm screw, or its my duratrax driver but I doubt that! good build.

I noticed three cnc'd notches in the back edge of the ('half'?) plate that you attached the DJI air unit too, they did not seem to be put to use! Is it possible the thin/light/full length plate was intended as a lower 'skid plate' for the DJI air unit to sit on as well as offer a uniform (unstepped) lower surface and the rear ('half'?) plate with the three notches then carry/hold/restrict the Air unit cable as well as the two antenna arms?

Nice Build. But I got a question: I saw multiple videos where ppl would need to mod the hardware inside the X7 for the crossfire module to work properly. He did not do this in this build. Could someone explain to me if I can buy the X7 if I plan on using crossfire? Does it need a hardware mod or not? Im a confused newbe. I'd like to buy the X7 because it seems to have the best price - performance for a beginner.

I actually asked the bolts vs screws questions while working in a mechanical engineering office. General thought was if it goes through a hole and receives a nut then its a bolt. But my argument was that I wouldn't call an m3 a bolt regardless. BKM has not been written for this standard lol

I love the video. I am using your build as a learning experience. I am using the same flight controller and ESC driver but I want to implement my own receiver that would send the commands to the Tmotor F7 controller via UART. Do you know if there is any documentation on the commands that we can send to the Tmotor F7 flight controller. I could not find a user guide any where that has those commands.

If you mean to send MSP commands, here is the documentation: github.com/betaflight/betaflight/blob/master/src/main/msp/msp_protocol.h If you simply want to implement a receiver, then you could use a publicly available SBUS library for Arduino or something similar.

Hi Josuhua, thank you for your fantastic videos. I have this flight controller and I'm looking to switch from the dji controller to crossfire tango2. I note you used uart 5 when you soldered up the nano, but the dji plug and play cable also uses uart5. Does this matter, and could you still use both controllers if you wanted to with your setup? If the power lead with XT60 and the cap was pre-soldered to the ESC, and the ESC/motors used MR30 connectors.... it would be plug-in-and-play :)

You would need a compatible receiver but yes.

Thanks . Would the range loss be significant and will it need soldering to the Fc . Im new to your hobby and see your diatone roma dji video and the bad weak frame vids . The alloy did look very much like its was cast to me too .. The apex frame looks alot stronger . Also will the chameleon ti have the space needed for the dji setup . Thanks for your help Joshua . 👍

Josh is very old school. I have flown for 5 years never soldered , never assembled. I have fixed stuff. Recently have been looking into builds like this to customize a little. The hobby is moving too plug in style connection points , with solder options. Either way, not a requirement to solder. Just because your not the second person " how did you do that " there are plenty of great options for solderlesss builds, or even builds you solder and everything fits. BNF are way popular, you can go about this hobby how ever you want, not how Josh wants you to enjoy the hobby

I thought when you used a different radio (not using the DJI controller) you removed two wires from the DJI air unit (SBUS and GND)? Does doing it the way it's done in the video give you the option to use the DJI controller or a Taranis with Crossfire by just making changes in the ports tab to the corresponding UART/Serial Rx and changing the receiver in the Configuration tab of Betaflight?

Bolts vs. Screws, They are both Fasteners, but the difference is a screws normally screw into something. while bolts normally pass threw, and will have a nut, but not always a washer.

Our classification at work is if it gets tighter the more it goes it its a screw. Where a bolt is the same diameter the entire length.

I cannot find one single video or anything that says what thickness the plates/arms are, how much clearance for the stack there is, or pretty much any detailed information at all? How is this considered the best freestyle frame yet there is no information available about it at all.

Whats the final weight with no battery? I havent watched the whole video yet, but I skimmed the parts where I figured a scale would be present and never saw one.

I weighed it in at 455 g without props, battery or gopro. It comes way up to 804 g with props, battery, gopro and a thick strap.
