BODY GOALS OR BODY EDITING? ELSA HOSK AND ZARA MCDERMOTT. TWO ABSOLUTE BABES! Ok, i'll stop with the capitols now. Poor Zara has had a bit of a rough ride when it comes to social media trolls and body image, and well, Elsa is an actual supermodel. But that doesnt mean that what you see on Instagram is actually reflective of real life, in fact - it's usually the opposite. Never believe what you see on social media - it's the highlight real, not reality.
Hope you guys enjoy this video! Let me know if you want more like this.
Love ya! x

Well in Elsa's case it is very obvious that it was more of a posing vs relaxed issue...she isnt that different, she just had her pictures taken from unflattering angles..

I also stopped using it and have been so much happier with myself ever since. And no more wasting time with countless pictures until I finally got the right angle to make me skinny enough and then choosing the filter to make my skin look good enough. It instilled so much insecurity no matter how many likes I got. Even though I now look older and heavier and basically just "uglier" than I did back then, I'm so much more confident.

These Instagram pics are not just angles and posing, they are clearly tweaked...and all of these women look like normal people in the pap pics- I wouldn't think anything if I saw them walking down the street...yet in the magazines or in Instagram they are Goddesses - I am so glad you make these videos because if I am shocked/ disgusted by this (and I rarely wear makeup or dress up) I cannot imagine how they make young girls feel - it's a fact that boys & girls typically have similar levels of self-confidence until puberty when boys continue to be the same as before puberty but girl's self-confidence levels drop drastically...and this continues throughout our lives- look how men are often considered more attractive as they age but for women it's the opposite (I know social media is affecting makes now more than ever but the goal isn't for everyone to equally be insecure about their looks-). Thanks for this dose of reality - I hope many people see this

Thank you for this Steph. Honestly you saying this helps so much. I’m a fitness competitor and I fluctuate. My body when I’m at stage weight is tiny, ripped and unhealthy yet women constantly tell me how good I look when I’m this lean and that I’m “goals”. It’s actually sad, disgusting and not maintainable. And then when I’m off-season people accuse me of editing my pictures (when they’re simply pictures from months ago) or say to me in person “oh, you gave up fitness modelling. You look different”. Yeah, obviously. My stage photos are posed, tanned, flexed and dieted down to nothing for months on end. It’s so frustrating and irritating. Cus I’m not walking around posing and flexing they don’t see my muscle definition and expect me to look like my 50kg stage weight instead of my normal healthy 64kg off stage weight. People don’t realise how different bodies can look, especially women’s bodies in different photos, lights, angles, levels of bloating and of course healthy normal weight fluctuations

I'm not into influencer type social accounts. I'm more about art, venues, friends, music, funny stuff, etc. But even I get sort of disheartened by those sorts of photos when I do see them, because even though I know it isn't really real, it somehow still gets in and can make one feel like. Uyuch I don't like that. So as always, thank you for the gentle reminder about real life images vs social media ❤️🦋

Your videos save my life, Stephanie. Yesterday I tried some bikinis in a local store and I just hated the way I looked and told myself I shouldn't go to the beach this year. I had eating disorder too as a teenager. You remind me that imperfections are normal. Self love is the key to a happy life. When we don't take care of our mental health first, we will never feel good, no matter how we look and what we have. I know this so well, but still doubt... Keep your head up, ladies!

The influencers who edit their photos are after all a product of their time and probably deeply insecure, so we should treat them with compassion. The practice of portraying a fake image as real however is really damaging and should be called out. Love you Steph!

Instagram definitely has people looking like dolls. I’ve noticed it’s gotten ridiculous. I can’t say I enjoy it and I worry sincerely for my 10 year old niece although she’s seeing TikTok and RU-vid. I let her play around with my makeup and wear it out to see Little Mermaid but all the while telling her that she has perfect beautiful childhood skin and she is beautiful as she is. I do enjoy makeup and I see it as being fun for her but I don’t want her to feel she needs it to be pretty. And Instagram makes it very hard for young girls and teens to feel that way. (Heck, it makes it hard for me at 41 bc I can not rewind time and be young again, not that I would want to do so. Wisdom is useful and I want to keep it. 😂)

When it comes to mental health issues, the road to healing/recovery is one where you can be aware of the behavior being harmful but still engaging in that behaviour. It can be because you make excuses or deem some things more harmful than others or simply because the urge/pressure takes over. Do I think this is an excuse for Zara posting those pics? Nope, but it is an explanation.
