INFP Career Choices

Choosing the right career means turning your disadvantages into great potentials. In this video, I'm going to provide some experience with regards to how this can be done - and hence what career types INFPs have a natural upper hand in. I hope this does not come across as too assertive - it's meant as a reference point for fellow INFPs - why you might be feeling lost (if you are) and which direction you can steer towards to feel a greater sense of purpose in life.

As an INFP, I think Investing is important for us. When you're financially independent, you can do anything that you're passionate about without having to worry about money. Look at the things differently and start see the bigger picture, guys! Good luck 🤞

I agree that INFP’s are not naturally suited for leadership roles. I am a manager and the transition was the hardest thing I have ever done professionally. What makes it possible is working for a company that allows you to grow into the position and values what you will bring to the role. I will never be a authoritarian style manager, I lead by inspiration. I have struggled with the communication aspect, but have gotten so much better! I used to communicate by email and using a dry erase board… now I am comfortable with directly and frequently asking my team to complete tasks. Above all, I value the people who work with me and I take care of them. This is how I have built a self functioning department and am able to trust them to do their part with minor redirections on my end. I will never claim that this was easy… it still has it’s challenges. But it has been good for me to develop these skills.

Drifting around is an understatement!!! My only long lasting job was 4 years and I am 47. I say “life is short” because I’d love to take advantage of every aspect of it and especially when, as an INFP, there are so many naturally induced interruptions in your life per se, that every moment should be cherished. We do better when we are alone, individually working independently without micromanaging or sticky people around wanting to know more about you (while we are extremely private) ☀️
@lavisherelena491
@lavisherelena491 2 года назад
I absolutely love your words "naturally induced interruptions"...maybe the INFP's dream is just to be happy, although asking for just that may seem like a tad bit too much in such a capitalist society where people are often categorised by their professions. Luckily, the lengths that we INFPs go to in pursuit of such untainted happiness is - in my honest opinion - quite far.
@celiastarot

@@lavisherelena491 yes!!! Sad but true that the money aspect and title in this society makes one who they are was in “importance” but that is so untrue because what we want to attain as INFP is usually so genuine, so heart-felt that it supersedes any type of diploma or credential (to me). I’m actually starting an at-home job that came up out of the blue and I’m ecstatic about it! It’s all about finding our true calling as I found Tarot and my spiritual path, although we are always learning and wanting to dive deeper about specific topics that’s one that I’m deep into. Your video was spectacular thank you so much! ❤️

Thank you for your video. You remind me of myself when I taught for 25 years at a University and a college. Like you I taught Spanish, my own native language to American adults of different ages and being an INFP and an artist, a painter and a sculptor, a mother of two sons who are on their own now and a companion to my huge dog and lots of cats who live with me in my property and home, I used the beauty of the wisdom that I get from mother cats teaching their youngsters, the humor and observations that my dog communicates to me, my wonderful son’s encouragement and the meaningful comments of my trusting students to advance in that free and joyful ride which is teaching and learning. You are a meaningful and to the point communicator. I foresee great success for you as such in all the careers that have an exchange of knowledge with others who get to see your talents and who embrace them. As a fellow INFP I offer you my humble encouragement for a continuation of excellence.

@@lavisherelena491 I guess blocks in my mind such as 'finance lacks a soul, it's real-worldly not as touchy-feely'. Also college students are more career oriented than school kids and teaching has to be more practical? I guess my current disenchantment with corporate / commercial world is at play here. I clearly need to heal myself, get the cobwebs off. But I feel at core, there is an underlying desire to lose myself in work that goes beyond my petty little self and is for a larger cause for the next 25-30 yrs of my active life. What that is, I am unable to put a finger on. Using the skills I have built in finance over the last 40 yrs seems the right direction rather than re-inventing the wheel. Thanks for questioning me and prodding me to think. Apologies for the delay in replying as I didn't seem to get notified that you replied. Btw do you get conflicted in your head about teaching in a cram school - whose system/methods/values you may be questioning? And if so, how do you talk yourself out of it?
@lavisherelena491
@lavisherelena491 2 года назад
Well sending children off to cram school is so common in Taiwan that my gut reaction is to just do my best for the kids that I get in touch with to have a good time, because they're either in my hands or they're in the hands of someone else at another cram school. There are indeed times when I do question the way things are done, and I always try to maximise my autonomy in the classroom so that I can tweak things in one direction (almost covertly) while satisfying the 'criteria' of what's being asked of me. I really dislike the ranking system and I try to get kids to understand that scores are the least important, but it is indeed difficult to do that sometimes when this goes against the principles of the institution, the parents and even the society. That being said, it is also fun in my attempts to strike the balance between the two and STILL achieve my goals :)

Hi Elena! Sending love as an INFP from Hong Kong ^-^. I'm 19 years old and have thought about teaching as well, but the education system and the culture in general in Hong Kong seems to be soooo exam-oriented and I'm afraid it wouldn't be what I expected when I get into the industry (like I'm afraid I can't talk too much about life and is mostly forced to spoon-feed them public exam curriculum which I loathed as a secondary school student). The university program I'm studying as of now is more leaned towards artist, but I really love the idea of teaching and passing on life experiences or knowledge in a fun way (it's weird, as much as I'm anxious to talking to a bunch of crowd the idea of teaching is somehow fascinating). Anyway, may I ask if you would introduce MBTI to your students? Personally it has helped me a lot in self-discovery (I LOVE listening to random INFP videos online, as long as the title has INFP I know I can relate to it), so I wonder if you would introduce MBTI to slightly more developed adolescents, because I know I would if I could! XD
@lavisherelena491
@lavisherelena491 2 года назад
Hi INCOGNITO!! I would introduce MBTI to students who show a keen interest (usually this happens after having more in-depth conversation out of class or when there are fewer students in class) in these areas (i.e. psychology, personality, self-development/ self-help etc.) because not all students are as interested as we are in this field - hence they might find it boring. But I might mention this to them in passing and they'll check it out if they're indeed interested. Otherwise I might also try to incorporate it into some exercises in class! (For English-reading for example). With regards to how you're worried about the system being exam-oriented, think of it this way: the students are either going to meet you in this system or they're going to come across some other teacher. What I'd do is I'd meet the system half-way, and let my students know that there is so much more to learning. The system is there for a reason, but life can be so much more interesting if you want to make it so!
@raymondchankawai0108
@raymondchankawai0108 2 года назад
@@lavisherelena491 Ah, that’s how I decide whether I want to introduce it to a friend as well! Some friends are not as enthusiastic as I am sadly but it’s their choices. I think learning about cognitive functions is like cracking the code behind this life-simulator! And you’re right about the system, I will always have being a teacher as an option (maybe when I’m a bit older though)! In the meantime I still have a lot of time to learn many things, and as you said, make regrets and learn from them! Cheers!

Im considering growing my micro business as a "storyteller" for adults and trance work after quitting a job that was not for highest good recently. I do sound healing as well part time. The people I have seen gave me lots of positive fed backpack. At times when I need to respond quickly I create space or time by asking questions before I respond. Like you said we can tend to ponder (you didn't use that exact word) but ya I don't like to rush, it takes time to consider lots and certain things then emerge. Why I plan on spacing time between clients and do lots of note taking. Wish me luck!
