Great tone, comparable to Jim Kale of Guess Who fame. And a finger plucker, something I adapted for my own bass playing ( like, real bass players don't use a pick). Underrated, great that he talked about Tom- his rhythms are felt driving the Cook/Clifford rhythym section on their best recordings.

one of the things that makes him such a good bassist is he thoroughly understands thw function of the bass ans he totally gets the concept of space...that the groove and soul comes from the space between the notes. . somerhing alot of players should learn.

Stu, Doug, Tom, and John were Creedence Clearwater Revival. I love John Fogerty but without his explaymates, his sound (John's) is not the same. The same happened to the Beatles; John, Paul, George, and Ringo were the sound.

No disrespect to Stu. Your analogy is WRONG. John wrote the songs. sang lead, played lead guitar , arranged the songs and produced the albums. When they wanted to incorporate keyboards on the Pendulum album, HE learned how to play. He sang his own harmonies lol. The Beatles spread these tasks around fairly equally. Even Ringo averaged singing one song per album. Go listen to Marti Gras and see what happened when CCR tried that.

Its a pity how CCR ended up when you see all the wonderful things the Beatles have been doing in the last 20 or so years to continue and grow their legacy ie from Anthology to Get Back etc. Creedence deserved similar respect and a chance to live and prosper. Alas we have none of that for CCR but they deserved sooo much more (like maybe other bands too) but for some reason it didnt work out. John has continued yes, they deserved soo many more accolades ......that they will never get! Its a shame.

Fantasy ripped John for millions.

@@ForBassPlayersOnly Yeah I'm actually just talking about the idea that you need to read sheet music to be a good musician that's of course absurd as none of the great musicals in popular cultural history could read music. As far as the truth about the history of CCR I know that perhaps John could have probably been a better leader however his writing spoke for itself and when he did succeed leadership in the songwriting department the results were poor. What really upsets me is how the band double crossed him and sold out to the record company behind his back. Its John's fault as the leader of the band for leaving the initial contract assessment to be handled by Stu, who it seems with his father, made a bad deal for the band that he probably benefited from.. It would have been very journalistic of you to address that here but we all have our motives. Good day.

This makes no sense with regards to what was stated about Tom Fogerty leaving the band! According to John, he did relent & allow Tom to contribute songs & sing songs. However, a few months later Tom just up & quit completely! I personally believe, Tom Fogerty finally realized he could never measure up to his younger Brother, John’s, songwriting! I also believe Tom wanted John to help him with songwriting & producing Tom’s songs. The proof is, Tom Fogerty’s songs he wrote & sung after he left Creedence Clearwater Revival were not well received by the public in general & almost all were weak as compared to John Fogerty compositions!

Clifford and Cook have no shame. John Fogerty rates with Lennon, McCartney, Carol King and Harry Nilsson as the best songwriters of that era. These two clowns got stupid by thinking that they had the same kind of talent as John. The fact is John was in a magical songwriting zone for 3 or 4 years and these guys went for a magic carpet ride and obviously felt entitled. Their greedy egos allowed them to be scavengers with no self respect. Johns music was manipulated away from him, I can't blame him for bad feelings, as musicians, they're a joke
