• Rex - Retirement • Dupli-Kate and Shrinking Ray - Absolutely dead • Bulletproof - Going to die (maybe) • Shapesmith - Dead or prison Those are my predictions
Cecil seems more considerate though. Remeber when Rex said to stop showing up randomly and make a call. Cecil procedes to do just that when he alerts them about Lizard League. Also, he listens to Mark to leave Oliver alone. I feel like Amanda wouldn't care and do what she wants because she has the power to do so.
@@kassaken6521 True to a point, but I think Cecil only plays at civility for as long as it doesn't conflict with his goals or keeping the peace. I think for now he'll lay off Oliver, but if there's any worry Ollie might grow up to be another Omni-man, I imagine the choice will no longer be Mark and Debbie's. As it stands I imagine he's quietly shitting himself and the only reason he hasn't snatched that child is because Mark throwing a Viltumite powered temper tantrum is the last thing he needs.
Cecil doesn't always do great things but at the end of the day i think he still has limits and cares about people. Waller is a cunt through and through who is worse than every villain on the suicide squad.
The way this episode treats Rex makes me so happy his presence throughout the episode gave him so much depth- like when he made fun of Rudy, or gave Eve a speech, and the terror on his face once he realized that hes the only survivor easily one of my favorite characters in the show now.
Rex really is the Sokka of Invincible. Started out as a asshole everyone made fun of to a actually likable asshole that people can tolerate in universe. Also after his speech to eve I can now see why they used to date. He’s really becoming one of my favorite characters.
The thing that made Kate and Rae’s deaths the most shocking to me was how casually everyone was taking the fight beforehand. Like, they were struggling, but it was still just business as usual before everything went horribly wrong. And the way the writers tricked us into thinking Rae would burst out of that guy’s neck by having Rex make a one-liner only for it to fail was was a morbidly great bait and switch
I guess there was a lesson there to never underestimate villains despite how silly and easy to defeat they were being previously. But who knows? I sure don't.
@@SJ_G. We're used to Marvel and DC where all the villains are just filler fodder that the heros casually destroy leading up to the big one who really matters. This show contrasts years of superhero experience by making those one off side villain not-fodder.
The moment she asked for help while being choked, she's was telling her team "I do not got this, going to actually die". They couldn't pull it together in time. She was basically going 1v1 with the muscle from the other team and I don't know if she usually does that. The lizard leagues reputation of sucking for so long gave them an advantage.
Usually when there's death scenes and sh*t doesn't bother me but when rae and Kate died I sat there just like god damn that was f*cked. Those deaths were pretty damn brutal. Lizard League ain't a joke. 💀
Well I mean. The Lizard League are still kind of a joke. Three of their best just got slaughtered either way, even if they killed a couple heroes. And the few they killed were those nowhere near the strength or power of the original Guardians. The Lizard League may have done well this time, but the people they were against weren’t exactly the most highly regarded, and even still the Lizard League lost some of their best anyway.
They kinda are a joke, compared to many other threats. It was just very unlucky timing with zero heavy hitters available. Immortal, Mark, Eve, Amanda or probably even Bulletproof could take them solo.
Same thing for me. I think it’s becuase of 1 the break and how slow paced it started off violence wise. 2 the brutality of show hasn’t really been impacted deathly on someone we really really care about. At least not enough to where I remember. The og guardians deaths were was more brutal but they don’t hit the same because we haven’t spent 2 years with them
They're still a joke The Guardians kicked their asses regularly until this battle, even though they killed two of them, they also lost three of their top people with just by fighting THREE of the guardians
@@Maxisamo1see here's the thing, they only seemed like a joke, because we usually see them fighting against top heroes that most people would never stand a chance against. And even the heroes they are fighting here aren't weak, they're just not up to the level of the top heroes.
So just to clarify, it is the mustache. The comics make it clear it IS hereditary for viltrumites and it IS synonymous with them. It’s intentional comedy.
It wouldn't matter if she could he was still too durable and she was too weak. Its was literally like if you got stuck in a trash compactor. If she could grow bigger she still would have only grown enough for all of her bones to snap and then she would have died. Best case komodo dragon also choked to death. @Anthonydavis65
No dude, you were right about the moustache thing. The Viltrumites are always recognized by their trademark moustache, it’s their thing, no joke its a plot point in the comics.
It’s no wonder nobody would guess that Invincible is a viltrumite while wearing his superhero suit. However, he does bear some resemblance to Nolan whenever he’s unmasked.
@@rexcraptor2761but the problem is still the same. Antman doesnt have the durability to handle thanos bones muscle and skin with his own durability. He’d crush himself
I saw that spoiler in a RU-vid vid, but it'd been so long that I forgot until after the episode. Plus since Ray was a guy in the comics, and she's just so cute in the show, I really, really hoped back then that they would retcon it. Jus like how they changed Amber's race and entire personality (though I guess judging by how the other Mark treated his Eve, they changed Amber's race and personality, but not how their story is gonna end, since he's still destined to dump her annoying ass for Eve)
@@leviathanthetallone8299 same. I was so hopeful that she'd survive, especially since she got so little talking scenes so far. She was due some focus before dying, but got none.

2:31 can I just say how amazing the lady thraxan's character was? From the beginning, she was so sweet and understanding that, just like Mark, whatever hate and disgust we felt towards his father couldn't be directed at her. And now this episode, she's so wise and compassionate towards Mark, understanding his situation and giving him the push needed to get him to go back home while at the same time convincing him to take his half brother with him because it's the best thing for her child, as he'll otherwise outlive them all because or their short lifespan Great character, great mother
@@umapessoa240 perfect way to write her character because of the Thraxans' role in Nolan's character arc. He condemned humans for being weak and having short lives only for the Thraxans to show him that actual bugs with months-long lifespans could have meaningful relationships with him. If she has brief screentime but earns the audience's respect and leaves a lasting impact, that totally reflects her role in Nolan's life
Same. Right from the start of the show, they always made her deaths look painful, but these looked especially bad. And the way she was begging for help, and nobody noticed till. It was too late, because they're so used to seeing her die. Up till now, I didn't even consider that she might have a limit to her cloning. I figured she had a max number, but not that she might exhaust herself and not even be able to make anymore. Though her and Immortal was gross, but I only felt bad for her, instead of slut shaming her. The way Immortal rubbed it in Rex's face by making Kate orgasm right in front of him, when she was clearly trying to be discreet, was just a gross macho display of dominance towards someone he's supposed to be in charge if training. Made me despise Immortal and feel sorry for Kate.
Honestly I feel like this death was even worse. Idk, maybe I just have a thinf against Vore, but I feel like being chewed to death is a way less gruesome way to go, than struggling to expand, only to feel the walls closing in and crushing you. Up till now, the octopus death in The Boys was the worst death, since The Deep could probably sitll hear him screaming for mercy even as he slid down his throat, but Ray's death is now the worst
I dont understand why didn't the lizard explode, can't she just expand and kill him? If she gets eaten isn't her body so dense that she can't be bitten?
@@Shadow_Hunter_X It's like SC said in the video. Bigger size doesn't mean more strength/density. Juggernaut has like 6' over Sentry, and Sentry still punched him across the planet. Komodo has super strength, so for him it would've been like aggressively clearing his throat.
@Shadow_Hunter_X even if she can grow she has to be stronger than his body or she'll crush herself. Imagine being stuck in a dense cube, if you aren't stronger than the durability of it you will only end up breaking your body pushing against it.
Fun fact, the mustache thing is so important because the viltrumites are literally named after it. Viltrum is named after the philtrum, the area between your nose and upper lip. The race of supermen are from a planet named mustache.
My goodness, Shrinking Rae made me experience live the 5 stages of terror! It made me remember that no character is safe in this world! I know they didn’t have a 3 month cliffhanger to come back with ANOTHER cliffhanger. 😭 I need episode 6 NOW.
I hated her death it was so brutal, soul crushing traumatizing. I'm gonna be watching spoilers before watching invincible episodes just to make sure I don't have to witness something so horrifying I legit couldn't calm down until a day later. The scene crushed me I was skipping through "filler bits" and I skipped to after rex was the only one left and I was like "huh? Where'd the other two go?" And my horrible feeling was made worse by the fact that I had to rewind to see it... Shrinking raes death is the most brutal death in American animated history hands down
It's genuinely disturbing yet incredible how they took such a quick death from the comics and made it this personal hell to witness. Not only that but this episode being a great turning point for Rex is so good. I'm not gonna spoil things that take place in the comics but it's safe to say at this point his ego is dying or pretty much died this episode with Rae and Kate and he's gonna become a better dude and team player; he's just traumatized for right now.
*spoilers i guess* So you say no spoiler buuuut..... but say that Rex will be better form this experience that imply he lives, and Kate does in fact die ☹️ I have not reas the cómic so I dont know
@@Frazier16 I think there's a "for the greater good" argument for his methods, but he's definitely done some sketchy things that conflict with what most people would consider an objective moral good. He gave that guy who made those horrible zombie super soldiers that were clearly in a lot of pain funding to do more of that so he could have an army of super zombie soldiers, instead of arresting that guy. There was also what he did to Damien Darkblood too, arguably that's more justifiable, but still kind of messed up to do to him.
@@gregvs.theworld451 I would do the same if I was him. Would you rather have the sketchy mad scientist and his dead super soldiers save the planet or would you rather let the planet be glassed by Viltrumites? Cecil is just good at what he does.
People before Episode 5: “Rex sucks! He’s such an asshole and an overconfident egotistical bully” People after Episode 5: *Rex lost a hand and two of his friends* “Oh my God, his redemption ark, I love Rex, I knew he was always great! This gave him so much growth!
I generally liked him before this episode. Then again, I have a soft spot for jerkish/rogue characters. Junkrat, Benedict from Battleborn, Baird from Gears, etc. Rexplode is a boi.
I had a problem with the college "probation." - I was academically probated and then suspended from college, it takes AT LEAST two semesters. They want your money, they'll let you fuck up a lot. Meanwhile, a semester is 4 months. So, he was gone HALF of one semester. Still even time to make that up before ANY final grades have been entered into the system. Total BS.
Mark "lost" his dad when Omniman attacked earth. Most colleges will give you some leeway for the loss of a parent, especially when the circumstances are violent. For anything else, there's always Cecil to twist arms behind the scenes.
I really appreciate the nuance that the writers are taking with Mark and Amber's relationship. Mark is upset that he has to keep leaving Amber because he does want to be there for her. And while Amber understands why Mark has to leave since what he does is important, it's leading to her feeling ignored since someone that she loves isn't for her often. She won't ever tell Mark to prioritize their relationship over saving people, but that doesn't mean she can't feel neglected. Many superhero stories will have a hero in a relationship with a civilian and sometimes it does work out (heck, even Debbie and Nolan made it work). But Invincible showcases the flip side of it by exploring how much strain it can cause on a relationship and how some people handle it better than others. I do love this relationship and it's clear that they want to make it work, but neither fully understood just how hard this would be. I'm honestly going to be a bit sad when the two will inevitably break up.
See if she breaks up with him now its justified because she cant handle being with a superhero who has to keep leaving her to save the world as long as she is mature about it unlike last season she wont be hated im glad the writers decided to change her character writing because it was bad last season
@@Anthonydavis65 That line from episode 3 where she talks about never apologizing for going to save people felt less like an actual line and more like a personal apology from the writers to the audience lol.
@@krisby3939No it's like the most in character thing Amber would say. If Mark had been truthful from the beginning she would've told him the same thing. The only thing different for now is she's in college and getting the full Mark dating experience

Kate's was fucking brutal, damn she was just a kid too, all of them were. To see her get her head completely smashed with her eyes popped out with a final large spurt of blood was just hard to watch, but yeah raes death was seriously insane too. Rip to then both
I'll be honest and comic spoilers I would genuinely like it more if they actually killed off Kate here, because it doesn't really make sense for her to have been hiding away and just the Kate we know being a clone
@@grubb2103guesing that Kate 1 is a clone an there is a Kate 0 by that coment I have not read the comic so no spoilers please But he is right why use Kate 1 to make duplicates insted of standing outside the blast doors and keep sending clones from a "safe" place
The whole extra with Adam was supposedly an animator who went crazy working overtime, however when they did that they werent recognized or compensated in any way for all the extra effort they put into it
Gotta Love Rex's Character development. You can tell by this episode that while he's still a douche he's a competent hero trying his best with his limited powers. His speech to eve was great as well. Can't wait to see The adaption of his Awesome role in the invincible war ark.
I figured Ray was gonna be the one to die considering just how little her character does. I think i first noticed this when Rex was fighting with Kate in the training room and Monster girl left to find Rudy. And it just felt strange that out of all the original members that were first picked to be the new guardians, Ray's the only one not there. It just screams "just here to die". Rex, i think is definitely going to live. Anytime a show has the threat of death but ends the episode before the trigger is pulled, it almost always means something stops that bullet.
Legitimately needed a few minutes after that ending to just sit there and process. Ray and Kate were my two favourite characters (for less than pure reasons, but still) It was just so gruesome, like Akira anime levels of gruesome. Duplikate was bad, but I could handle it, but ray was just..... Horrific. I was in stunned silence. Like we were supposed to watch an episode of Invincible, and then head to the shops after, but I was just sat there in shock, and thank fuck my mom decided she needed a nap anyway, cause I was in no. Fit state to be buying eggs and milk
I’m glad I’m not alone, Rays death literally made my stomach hurt and as you said I needed a minute when the episode is over. I don’t think I’ve ever felt like I couldn’t watch something a second time but that cuts the cake for sure.
I know it was horrofing, I was eating, and that kind of thing does not afect me that much I mean omni man vs guardiáns was shock shure but this... omg it make my somach Hurt, and really hope that Kate survive.... some how and I think Rex will make it
During the break I read the comics of Invincible, Atom Eve and Rexsplode, Tech Jacket, and Guardians of the Globe. So now I know what it feels like to be a manga reader seeing an anime watcher ask questions.
I am still disturbed how Shrinking Rae got vored to death. Other than that I loved the uncertainty that this show has, you don’t even know whats gonna happen or who’s gonna die. It really adds to the fact this is probably my favorite show ever.
As a comic reader, I am having so much fun with these reviews, it's great at putting into perspective just how much knowledge you have about everything at this point, as it can be easy to lose sight of that when you know the whole story. It's insane how many good moments are still to come for you non-comic watchers.
4:24 there's another amazing thing that this scene puts into perspective that I think is really important for moving Nolan towards a place of redemption not just in the eyes of Mark and other characters- but also from the eyes of the audience. This scene compares the way Mark's brother would age to the Thraxans to the way Mark will age to the humans. We are led to believe by the end of season 1 that Nolan is entirely evil in his motives, but this happens because we as humans cannot possibly understand the true scope of how long thousands of years IS, just like Mark. By lowering that scale from thousands of years to just a few months, we begin to see just what Mark's life would be and feel like if he were to live out life as a normal human, and he sees it too. It becomes clear to us and Mark exactly what Nolan was trying to prevent his son from going through, even if it was in the worst possible way.
Sadly Shrinking Rae was kinda screwed there due to the lack of options. She was stuck between the throat and the stomach and as we saw the former didn't work and I imagine the stomach wouldn't go much better. Maybe she could've grown only slightly and triggered a gag reflex to force Komodo Dragon to vomit her back up, but that's a gamble. Best case scenario would've been to get into his lungs and then expand since I doubt he could crush as easily, at least not before suffocating
If you listen closely you can actually hear her scream right before she expands which I believe is supposed to be her being burned by the stomache acid.
Only someone with balls of steal can get away with rocking a mustache I'd either call a pedostache, or a 70s pornstach. At least that's what I would call it on the lips of anyone that couldn't casually rip me limb from limb as easily as I rip bread to dunk in my soup. Also right there with you, Rae was Bae. She was easily the cutest girl in the show, and got nowhere near enough attention. Hell, you can judge a female character's popularity based on how much r34 there is of them, and even Monster Girl has more than Rae 😭
@@TheDiscoGenre honestly remembering that there's a ton of alternate dimensions actually cheers me up. They might be like 99.9% full of Evil versions of Invincible, but there's still a good chance she's alive and well in a few of them, if she kept her head down (which is easier to do when you can just shrink down and live in a doll house.)
You know, it always bothered me that ALL the A-Listers in the Invincible universe don't have any form of AOE moves or powerful ranged attacks. Sure Robot has some Star Wars laser blast stuff, but he almost always goes for hand to hand so they can't be THAT effective or at least cost effective, and Eve's ability to throw energy blasts have the rate of fire and travel speed of freaking throwing knives. Seriously how is it that NO ONE in the higher leages has something like firebending or a continuous laser attack? How is it that the only one with some form of somewhat effective AOE is REX?
Or even the use of ranged weapons. Like if Duplicate has so many clones, why not arm them with various aspects to make up for weaker physical capabilities. Thinking for this show hurts...
Mark and Eve are written as foils to eachother, seeing them both grow past their mistakes just shows their growth. Mark was hit with his dad's past mistakes and is now looking to the future to cope. Eve is terrified of the future and Rex was there to remind her about the good she did in the past. If you want to stretch it, Amber is always in the present, always off to the side waiting for Mark and making changes in the now, rather than looking at the past or present. I also like that Mark and Eve, but mostly Mark aren't listening to Cecil anymore.
this harkens back to when Nolan was telling Mark to not hold back because the viltrumites are there to kill. unfortunately they are not mark and we see the consquences of those who do not heed this advice.
i knew Kate was screwed just from how detailed her deaths were being animated. like other stuff had been bad, but not NEARLY to this degree. factor in the fact that the dude she's fighting is huge, Rex and Rae being completely preoccupied, and she's basically a twig, i knew she was gone. i just didn't expect it to be so BRUTAL
Rex laughing after killing 2 lizard members and getting his hand bit off is my favorite thing to see from any hero, which immediately boosted him to one of my favorites. Something about a hero getting badly injured but still coming out on top laughing like a phsyco tickles me
I honestly keep forgetting the fact that Robots body is a child version of Rex, like that must be so weird seeing some dude use your teenage self as a skin puppet, and I have a feeling thats why they sorta glossed over that part so fast
@@MillyKKitty For real, those people are almost just as annoying as the people that directly spoil themselves. I call these type of comments or replies “indirect spoilers”, since they think they’re so subtle but don’t realize how easy it is for the average person to put 2 and 2 together. For example, X and Y die in an episode. A TV-only viewer would theorize that Y would survive somehow, then some random comic/manga readers who just can’t resist replying proceed to say things like: “I guess you’d like what happens afterwards 👀” which simply confirms the theory as a fact, hence, an indirect spoiler Or they’d say: “Should we tell him?” “Oops…” which might look like nothing important, but these reactions indirectly imply that the theory is wrong, that is, Y will indeed not survive. I’m sure you already get my point. Like would it kill you to simply not reply to a theory, either confirming or debunking it??
I think the worst part about Rae’s death was Rex hyping her up as she was being swallowed. Like imagine you hyping up your friend for the crazy shit she can do thinking she’s gonna make it out of there, only for it to backfire and her to die in the worst way imaginable
i feel like the only way rex should die in the show is the same way/time he did in the comics. too much of a powerful moment in the comics to not recreate in the show.
I feel like they built up that anxiety moment even MORE here so yeah me too. I hope they make it just as, if not more, impactful as it was in the comics!
The species name Viltrumite is a play on the word philtrum, the dimple in the middle of the upper lip. The moustache literally is how Alan recognized he was a Viltrumite.
Disagreed on your guardians ranking. Eve, Rudy and Martian man 2.0 are going to be *INSANELY* strong after learning to use the full extent of their powers. Remember the first martian man? Freaking Nolan couldn't break away once he tied him up using his body, the only reason he died was plot convenience cause he could've moved his weakspot on Omni-man's back where he couldn't be able to reach it and it would've been game over even for an elite viltrumite. Immortal manages to get in A purely because it's really hard to kill him for good but in terms of combat prowess he's B-tier as well.
When your a like long time book fan of this, and when you see and hear the creators would "expand" Rae's character... well, they fulfilled their promise, because I had some hope for fleeting second, RIP to a baddie, they didn't need to improve on her design like that.
I've gotta say this as someone who's read the comics from start to finish: Unless the writers add in new parts like the Train scene (yes, that wasn't in the comics), I don't think ANYTHING in the future is gonna be comparable to the sheer horror of Rae's death.
Man imagine the team coming back from space with Mark being all like "I so hope Rex has some really boring over confident stuff to tell us just to forget all this crap" and then be all like"What the FUCK !!!!!!"when they learn what happened while they were gone.
Regarding Oliver, to consider the quick capability of learning of the Thraxans, as result of their too short life span, i wonder if this could implies that the Thraxan-Viltrumites hybrids could be potentially the most smartest beings of the universe. As they have the quick learning of the Thraxans, adding the notably long life span of the Viltrumites.
I love how the music went from heroic and hopeful when you think she’s gonna be okay by rapidly getting big inside him to sinister when you realise she’s getting crushed to death
i barely watch invincible because i read the entirety of the comics but oh boy the moment i saw your thumbnail i was IN to see how they adapted shrinking ray death.
Things being eaten alive by being swallowed while still being alive have always freaked me out. Like I’ve seen videos of fittingly enough kamodo dragons eating animals alive and it’s very freaky to think they are alive while still being in somethings throat or mouth being digested…. While for ray it feels just so much worse cuz like you said you see her expand but then break like all the bones in her body and just get mulched like what the fuck man…. While also how do you bury her for the funeral? There’s nothing left literally….
