Lots of great knowledge shared! I had help but did a dry compression test on mine before I had everything rebuilt. Didn’t do a wet one, but my culprit was a blown head gasket (at 232,000 original miles lol)

You knew it was bad. Re-ring it and put it back together. It should be fine. You can also replace somethings while it’s apart.

Actually, looks like the compression is good, but still taking the motor out to replace the oil pan among other things.

I need to purchase a compression testing kit. You don't often need a tool until you need it. Good to know about the wet test.

Watching your video is more comprehensive than watching an expert due to the small details that us newbies dont know, and you explain. Polish and wax the paint, itll look nice! If you pull the motor weld some scott rod panels in the engine bay it cleans it up alot

Glad the motor is ok ! Now u just have to rebuild 1 instead of 2 at least on the 331 u have most of ur part's hopefully the cylinders don't need to be bore out maybe u can hone the cylinders !!!

Good video! You should have sanded the corrosion off the distributor cap. It’s a quick way to verify your theory. Also check the inside of the cap for corrosion. Either way it’s a cheap fix.

That distributor cap is definitely a problem! I imagine the rotor inside is toast as well. I bet it would have run 100% better if yall were able to install new plugs, cap and rotor. Either way, can't wait to see what's next!

Did you guys disconnect anything like the fuel pump or any harnesses? Or just the distributor

Yeah we disconnected fuel rails, and some other things. We may have covered this in the one of the follow on videos, if not we've pulled the engine in about 3 different videos.

This video is pretty old, but as I remember we just disconnected the spark, nothing to do with fuel.

With the compression as far off as it is I would just go ahead and replace the rings. The engine will be apart anyway right? Just for peace of mind you know? New bearings and rings would make me feel better about it. That and get a valve job done while its apart. Wouldn't hurt lol

For now, he doesnt need to replace the rings. The lower cylinders are around 10-15% off. It'll take a lot of work and money to re-ring the engine. His goal is to make it to the chocolate fox, so that leaves him little time. I wouldn't re-ring it at this point. Fix the pan, give a good tune up and it'll run way better.

I think we are ok for now (Ponie1992 has a great response on why below), but if the reading was off by more than 20% I would certainly be looking at doing something like that. The internals aren't coming apart at this time.
