Jehovah's Witnesses: Discovering Myself After Leaving a Cult 

I spent 27 years in the WTBTS and no one was ever close to me in all those years so i lost nothing when i woke up and walked away May 4th 2019

Jehovah Witnesses friendship is and has always been CONDITIONAL.

I was friends with 2 Sisters around my age.One Sister and I was very close for 30 some years,the other one about 20 years.And two elderly Sisters.I stop going to all meetings in March 2017 And eventually.the two Sisters just stop calling or coming by and one that I was the closet two would not except any messages from me in Facebook.But,I was end for 39 years,and I knew how things go.I'm happy,in peace and living well.I was not a born in.So I faded and and leaving that way worked fine for me.So happy to have left Watchtower.

I really appreciated this! I “rebelled” at ten years old and refused to go to the Kingdom Hall ever again. I had to stay living with my family - the demon-possessed bad seed who was bringing great shame on my mother. Thirty years and a lot of therapy later and I still struggle with my self-worth because I was told for so long that I was evil. Watching this video gave me some hope to keep trying to find my identity apart from being an ex-JW or an adult survivor of abuse. Religious trauma is real and devastating.

Your guest did a great job and a lot of what she said resonantes with so many of us that have left the cult.

Explaining a JW upbringing to a therapist is quite an experience and you realize how ridiculous that religion is, maybe for the first time. I was having a crappy day and this interview made me feel so much better. Very motivational and positive lady. Love to you both.

I love this! I was a JW. Joined when I was about 18 years old. Pioneered, went to watchtower farm and Was at Brooklyn Bethel Around the time of Ray Franz departure and they gave me the job of erasing his Bible reading tape labels; which started my questioning; and then I went to Gilead and foreign missionary work. I was in full time work for about 14 or 15 years or so when I left. Like you, subsequently, I had a lot of therapy too. Thankfully. After I left, I went to college and law school and became an attorney and have practiced law for many years. I found this video very refreshing! I feel a real comradery with you ladies. Very nice and positive and open and honest. You said it all! You are both doing great! Wish I knew you both personally! You would be my best friends! Thank you for the boost!

This is by far the most profound interview. I was not born in but joined later in life. Initially while studying it seems profitable but after I started getting involved then getting baptized, I really started seeing the holes; it wasn’t about the doctrine as much but monolithic mindset... it’s sad because most of them I feel fake their relationship with God which is so obvious. I started feeling as if they were battery operated robots who repeats what is being programmed. I remember the woman I studied with defending the fact that JW was not a cult because they can come & go.... but sadly no one there can go without severe penalties... loss of social structure. Most of my friends are not JWs because I just didn’t assimilate to their way of thinking. I just was most attracted to the simple way of worship... I don’t refer to it as the truth since I know a Jesus is the Truth, I don’t acknowledge the GB as God’s Channel, I just see them as overseeing the Organization just as any place of worship runs with leaders. The mind control is real though it’s unbelievable

What you said about Elders is very good Points in JW Organisation. Everywhere in the World is the same Principle. I was called as an Elder to tell me that someone saw my Son who is already 18 smoking Cigarette and warned me to see to it. As I didn't, my Privileges were taking away from me. Children of Elders must behave and fully in the Ministry of the good News. I am happy that I left this Cult with all my family Members and we are very happier than ever. Interesting interview. The org aim is to keep you fully dependent on them that’s why they don’t want you to get an education, stifle creativity, have friends, hobbies or make plans for your future. That’s why it’s such a struggle to get out especially for born ins and become a fully functional individual. I’m glad the org failed in this case. I wish her and her family continued success that’s the best revenge you can get!

After 55 years I found out I have no friends. Like JT said "they cut you off at the knees"....and never even ask you why you left. It's like zip and your gone....never existed. I'm 89 and just finding out the elders aren't there to help you but there to only get rid of you do you don't make waves. Okay then, I'm not a "Stepford Wives" member any longer. Turned in a resignation letter, short and sweet, recently. To them I'm dead but really now I'm alive.

This organization is absolutely toxic, more especially if you are born in and your whole social life is built around the organization. The moment you start having doubts, people start looking at you differently. There are questions that you can't ask and you have to accept group think and to some of us that's not good enough. The conditional love is absolutely disgusting 🤢 you could lose your whole family at any moment!

The whole purpose of comments at a Witness meeting is to further ensnare you in case you have thoughts of wandering. We might not believe what is being said, but are compelled to comment positively. The best thing to do when you have had enough and want to leave is simply go. Don’t bother with a letter or a phone call, just go. You don’t owe them anything. It’s your life! Join some clubs and start expanding your horizons. There’s a whole new world waiting for you free of undue criticisms and guilt.

I really can identify with you because I left over 7 yrs ago still haven't found a friend. It is Blessing I got a husband. So I felt like I need to go to a group or religious organization. Haven't found one yet, when you leave the JW it is hard to remove yourself from belonging. Lady See & JT has also been my blessing. I read Bro Raymond Franz two Book it was the eye opening that I needed for clarity. Very hurt & Hard so true.

I really empathize with what she said about always being in the spot light so to speak. I was also raised as a 5th gen JW and elders kid. You always had that feeling that everyone was watching you just waiting for you to do something wrong. Even to the point for me that when another JW kid in my school & grade got in trouble I caught it from both ends. One elders view was you went to the same school & grade so you must have known and didn't say or you were involved in the wrong doing. Then catching it from the kids side of they found out because you must have noticed something and told them something. Those JW kids in school ended up bulling me and spitting in my hair for something I didn't even do. The main reason this all happened was because I was on the spot light for being an elders daughter.

What an excellent interview! I had so many of the same issues with friendships from when I was a JW and then after I left. I really had to work on myself in therapy and learn about good boundaries, ect. It was a long process, but my friendships now are so much healthier. And for that I am so grateful! ♡

I meant I was a JW for 32 years.Of course I stopped hearing from the elderly sisters as well.But it something.They were friends with me as long as I am I JW.I too already had a Psychiatrist ,still do,and has helped tremendously.I have not attended any other religion since leaving.But it was a process to regroup.But time has helped me to do so.

The elders kids in the congragation we were had double life's. They smoked, changed clothes,swore until 3 pm. After 3 pm until the next morning at 7 they were foney. Those were elders kids and regular pioneer kids,and anyone else wasn't good enough to be spoken to. Watchtower should be sued.

My kids grew up as Jehovah's witnesses. When they wanted to have friends over I supervised. Sometimes we played Bible games and sometimes I read books to them. But they were allowed to have friends who were not Jehovah's witnesses but they were also knew that they were not too associate with them without supervision. I grew up in a household of African Jews or Hebrews, so we were not allowed to play with the neighborhood kids without supervision. I married when I was in highschool. My close friends and my children's close friends were family; JW and non. I like your series because of the diversity. Everyone has a different story, even though JWs were supposed to be cookie cut outs and dispassionate sheep. Also, another kind of good therapist is a sociologist; one who will coax you to find your own solutions, thus training you to continue this practice throughout the rest of your life. I am 71 and disfellowshipped for 33 years. Thank you for being here.

I appreciated the "channel's" redirection & focus on on this subject! Very important in that of the Discovery as to who, one is, after leaving a high control group. Realizing that one identified with a proselytizing, non holiday celebrating, doomsday, suit wearing cult, "true" Christian (b)org. is a "heavy burden" to have to shed!! Then to have to rethink/restructure your very continued existence, with your head held high as a conqueror is monumental!! Thank you, guys!! I was curious as to the locale, of this experience? Her fade/subsequent rehab, how recent? I found during certain parts of 'my' sis, a bit emotionally exhausting. Emotions @ a high level! ... Exhale. Breathe...whew. It is best not to be cordial to narcissists, back stabbers, zealots, money borrowers, free labor askers, scammers, holier than thowers, stepping stones, woman insulters, respect demanding posers or people that talk out of the side of their mouth.

People that leave on their own or have been disfellowshipped have no idea how wrong the organization is on nearly every aspect of truth and worship. It takes time for them to allow themselves to look into so much of the JW teachings. Not enough emphasis has been put on this issue in videos. Those that have researched and have remained away from the organization are amazed at how wrong they were and wonder how they could have believed such a pack of lies. I think for most people just leaving the organization for whatever reason needs to hear from folks that have completely left after researching the organization history, teachings, and policies. It might make a difference to them if they hear that it isn't just an issue here or there on bible understanding but it is an issue of the whole religion.

Many People like yourself, who were Jehovah's witnesses ( " if that's true") and left the organization and became critics - have ONE THING in common, you never learned one of the most important thing. Knowing - "The difference between being RELIGIOUS and being GODLY." You can be GODLY without being Religious or Vice versa or you can be BOTH. It's clear to me that you NEVER developed a personal relationship with JEHOVAH. A personal relationship with JEHOVAH isn't something that we get automatically when we get baptized, It's something we have to build ourselves. Even the Young Samuel who was serving as a minister under Eli's Leadership did not know JEHOVAH personally - When JEHOVAH Would call him, he would not recognize JEHOVAH'S VOICE, it's something he learnt later and developed. Soo many ELDERS AND MINISTERIAL SERVANTS like YOURSELF didn't have and still DO NOT HAVE personal relationships with JEHOVAH, that's why you get easily offended by human actions. You are so consumed and focused on human matters instead of looking to JEHOVAH. A Personal relationship with JEHOVAH is the key foundation to our FAITH. It's clear your faith HAD NO FOUNDATION, that's why it can crashing down like a wormy Apple. These ( Elders ) are imperfect human beings ( just like all of us), they can let you down, even your own family members can let you down, BUT JEHOVAH will NEVER let us down.. The most important thing is to be a GODLY fearing person and if you were one, you would have overlooked human errors and imperfections. What these Elders did or didn't do, what that has to do with JEHOVAH GOD? And you STOPPED Serving him? I have been offended myself by the members of the congregation several times but I don't give a TOAST, because my HOPES ARE NOT IN HUMAN HANDS but in JEHOVAH'S. Now you are going public with your critism of these People - mankind are in desperate need of Devine guidance, What alternatives are you offering?

Psalms 37:20 Phil 2:12 - New King James Version Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling; How many is Jehovah? Trinitarians say there are THREE Jehovah. What does the Bible say? There is ONE JEHOVAH and NOT THREE JEHOVAH. Deut 6:4. - “Listen, O Israel: Jehovah our God is one Jehovah WHO IS THE STAR IN NUMBERS 24:17? That is Jesus. It is the same Hebrew word used in Job 38:7 for the morning stars. So as Jesus is called THE BRIGHT morning star (REV 22:16) so also are the other morning stars(angels). So Jesus is the CHIEF Angel with the archangel's voice (1 Thes 4:16). Jesus is called Prince of Peace in Isa 9:6 and the original Hebrew word for Prince means PATRON ANGEL which is the same Hebrew Word used for Michael the archangel in Daniel. Jesus is the High Priest and the High Priest is NOT GOD himself. GOD DOES NOT WORSHIP HIMSELF : John 4:22 -You worship what you do not know; we worship what we know, because salvation begins with the Jews. Jesus Included himself IN WORSHIPPING THE FATHER. ONLY A CREATION WILL WORSHIP GOD. If the holy Spirit is a PERSON then now you have MANY PERSONS IN ONE GOD. REV 5:6 - seven eyes, and the eyes mean the seven spirits of God.SO NOW YOU HAVE ADDITIONAL SEVEN PERSONS IN GOD. Who is the cause of Salvation? Both GOD and the lamb are saviors, Rev 7:9-10, even Jesus needed to be saved by the Father from death as the Father is the SOURCE OF LIFE AND SALVATION , Hebrews 5:7 & John 5:26 - THE FATHER GAVE THE SON LIFE. Does the Bible called Jesus MADE AND BORN? Yes! JESUS is the Messiah and a CREATION BY GOD! He is called “BORN OF/FROM GOD”. (1 JOHN 5:18) Hebrews 1:5 showed that Jesus was MADE/BORN (orig Greek-gennaw). Also it says "he will become my son" Notice, FUTURE TENSE, WILL, so before that the SON DID NOT EXIST. If you are BORN AND MADE then you are a creation. , Hebrews 1:5 mentions I WILL BECOME HIS FATHER, so Jesus relationship with the Father has a BEGINNING, When ? it was TODAY. TODAY implies a beginning. Also Acts 2 mentioned GOD MADE JESUS as Lord and Christ. HEBREWS 1 :5 - the original greek word used there for begotten/born also means MAKE. so Jesus, the SON was MADE. Word: gennaw Pronounce: ghen-nah'-o Strongs Number: G1080 Orig: from a variation of 1085; to procreate (properly, of the father, but by extension of the mother); figuratively, to regenerate:--bear, beget, be born, bring forth, conceive, be delivered of, gender, make, spring. G1085. When did Jesus become SON? Even before Jesus became human he is called SON , Prov 30:4 Was Jesus GIVEN LIFE? He is called the firstborn and beginning of the CREATION BY GOD (COL 1, Revelation ) Also john 5:26 mentions that the FATHER GAVE JESUS, THE SON, with LIFE. If Jesus was given LIFE OR EVEN ETERNAL LIFE, then Jesus does not have life or eternal life before those were given to him. Notice, the Father was NOT given life. JESUS was MADE LORD (ACTS 2:36).JOHN 6:57 - Jesus Said “ I LIVE BEC OF THE FATHER” SO JESUS’ LIFE was dependent on the Father and his SOURCE OF LIFE/Eternal Life IS THE FATHER as John 5:26 states as well. 1john 5:1 - Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has been born from God,+ and everyone who loves the one who caused to be born loves him who has been born from that one . who is this that HAS BEEN BORN from that one? That is Jesus! 1 John 5:18 - Jesus is called BORN FROM GOD JESUS IS BORN FROM GOD, 1 JOHN 5:18 - We know that everyone who has been born from God does not practice sin, but the one born from God* watches him, and the wicked one cannot take hold of him . WHO is the ONE BORN FROM GOD that watches us and protects us and who does not sin? JESUS CHRIST! HAS ANYONE SEEN GOD? NO MAN HAS SEEN GOD and if they see GOD's face THEY WILL DIE. Jesus was seen by many and they didn't DIE so Jesus Is Not The Almighty God. Jesus is called SON even before coming to earth as human. Exo 33:20 states "“You cannot see my face, for no man can see me and live.”" NO MAN CAN SEE ME, notice ME , you think ME IS NOT LITERAL? IT IS LITERAL "ME" WHO IS GOD. GOD IS FROM FOREVER: John 1:1 mentions the WORD WAS IN THE BEGINNING, so Jesus was LIMITED "IN THE BEGINNING" Unlike GOD who is FROM FOREVER (Psalms 90:2). Is "a god" a valid translation in John 1:1? Sahidic Coptic translation uses an indefinite article with the word “god” in the final part of John 1:1. The Greek used in the BIble does not have an indefinite article "a" so that's why you don't see the "a" in John 1:1, The Sahidic Coptic translation uses an indefinite article with the word “god” in the final part of John 1:1. again, john 1:1 about theos - Strong's Concordance theos: God, a god , so "a god" is a valid translation. "The NAS New Testament Greek Lexicon" defines theos as "a god" as well. so it is a valid translation. Also Thayer's Greek Lexicon also defines theos as "a god" so it is a valid translation Is Jesus the same as Jehovah? Jesus is the SON. Jehovah is Our FATHER (Isa 63:16). Even the trinity doctrine states the SON IS NOT THE FATHER, so Jesus is NOT JEHOVAH How many person is GOD? God said " I am God Almighty", The use of I am, means GOD is ONE PERSON. Do you use I am, me, myself, me alone for ONE LITERAL PERSON or THREE PERSONS? You only use those phrases for ONE literal person and NEVER FOR THREE PERSONS. Is Jesus described as a Morning Star like the Angels? Yes. Rev 22:16 - 16 “‘I, Jesus, sent my angel to bear witness to you about these things for the congregations. I am the root and the offspring of David+ and the bright morning star.’”+ JESUS IS THE BRIGHT MORNING STAR, Angels are also called morning stars in Job 38:7, so Jesus is the BRIGHT OR CHIEF OF THE ANGELS (archangel) as 1 Thessalonians 4:16 mentions. What does Firsborn means? So depending on the context the firstborn can be the chief, principal, or first in time or place or rank. Still though, when you use the firstborn with an OF, “firstborn OF”, because of the OF , that means the firstborn BELONGS TO THE GROUP, just like when you say firstborn of the sheep. The firstborn is a sheep. So Jesus belongs to the group of creation, firstborn of all creation. Does John 8:58 correlate with Exodus 3? In Exodus 3, GOD is called I WILL BECOME (not I am) and does not correlate with John 8:58 Word: DID Pronounce: haw-yaw Use: TWOT-491 Verb 1) to be, become, come to pass, exist, happen, fall out
 Jehovah is called GOD of gods, who are these gods? if you say that those are all false gods, then you are saying that GOD is like Satan as he is God of all false gods. Those gods exist, just like King of kings, those kings exist. Is Jehovah, GOD's name? Psalms 83:18. Strong's No.: H3068 Hebrew: יְהֹוָה Transliteration: Yᵉhôvâh Phonetic: yeh-ho-vaw'" and even the BIBLE mentions the God's followers containing his name. Jehoshaphat, jehu, etc. With all Jehovah, the God of the Bible. Yes. Jehovah is God in the Bible, the Our Father (JEHOVAH) ISA 63 AND WHO IS JAH , JEHOVAH that is WORTHY OF PRAISE AND GLORY! ISA 26:4 - 4 Trust in Jehovah forever,h For Jah* Jehovah is the eternal Rock. JEHOSHAPHAT(MATTHEW 1 :8) - Easton's Bible Dictionary Jehovah-judged. Easton's Bible Dictionary Jehovah-judged. Smith's Bible Dictionary Jehoshaphat - (whom Jehovah judges.) Yup, JEHOVAH is the name of GOD IN THE BIBLE as his followers have the name of Jehovah in their name. What was Jesus role in creation? He is the Master Worker (Prov 8) and a channel used by GOD in the creation. Notice the TWO WORDS translated as By/Through in Col 1:16 - 1. En - a primary preposition denoting (fixed) position (in place, time or state), and (by implication) instrumentality (medially or constructively),.. Notice it says INSTRUMENTALITY 2. Dia - a primary preposition denoting the channel of an act Notice it says CHANNEL OF AN ACT So Colossians 1:16 simply mentions that Jesus is USED BY GOD AS A CHANNEL OF AN ACT, AN INSTRUMENT in the Creation. Compare that to GOD in 1 Cor 8:6 , notice for God the Father he uses the word EK - or ex ex a primary preposition denoting ORIGIN (the point whence action or motion proceeds), from, out (of place, time, or cause; literal or figurative; direct or remote):- Notice GOD the Father is the ORIGIN/FROM ,THE SOURCE FROM WHOM ALL THINGS are created. BIG DIFFERENCE. So the FATHER IS the ORIGIN of all things. For JEsus, it didn;t use the word Origin but "THrough" which in the Original Greek word also means "a primary preposition denoting the channel of an act". So God the Father is like the WRITER, he used his Son as a channel of a act to write (like a pen). So the only writer is the Father, the Son was used as a channel and NOT THE ORIGIN of creation. This is confirmed by Jesus in John 5:19 - " Jesus said to them: “Most truly I say to you, the Son cannot do a single thing of his own initiative, but only what he sees the Father doing.+" JESUS CANNOT DO A SINGLE THING , his FATHER always guide him. All things came into existence through him,e and apart from him not even one thing came into existence. - Jesus is first BORN/MADE (Heb 1:5, 1 JOhn 5:18) by GOD directly , only begotten by GOD, the Father , ALL things (which does not include of course Jesus and his Father and the holy spirit) came into existence THROUGH him (Jesus). the word through (DIA in Greek means - a primary preposition denoting the CHANNEL of an act; ) So Jesus was used as the CHANNEL in the creation.
