In this episode, our guest Carrie Bee, the author of Paradise Bound www.amazon.com/Paradise-Bound..., shares her experience on the effects of shunning for the better part of her life by her parents. Despite being their only child, they are more devoted enforcing Watchtower policies than having a relationship with their daughter. They have also chosen not to have a relationship with their grandchildren.
Our other featured guest, Paul, presents information from Questions From Readers (QFR) found in the November 15, 1952 Watchtower.
QUESTION: In the case of where a father or mother or son or daughter is disfellowshipped, how should such a person be treated by members of the family in their family relationship - P.C. Ontario, Canada.
In this QFR, the Watchtower discusses how to treat certain individuals within the community and based on their role in your life will depend how you treat them. For instance, it discusses the relationship between the spouse that leaves the organization vs the one that decides to stay. But, those that have grown children will need to focus on a much different outcome.
We also feature a clip from the SUPREME COURT OF CANADA where the Watchtower lawyer, David Gnam, explains to the court the difference between “disfellowshipping” and “shunning”.

Oh this conversation hits home for me. When I was 18 I stated dating this boy and they found out. I remember 3 elders coming to my house questioning me about what they heard. When I said I was not going to stop, they threw in my face that I was baptized so I had this responsibility to Jehovah. I said don’t care, then one of them said your going to be destroyed when the end comes. I said ok I will take my chances. They said you are disfellowship. They then asked to speak my mom they told her I was disfelliowship and that she was not to speak to me or have any contact with me. My mother let them square I the eye and said that’s not going to happen, there is no way that I can live in the house with my daughter and not talk and associate with her. They look at her and said well you are going against Jehovah and you will suffer for not following his word. After this conversation they shunned my mom because she stood by me. And for the way they treated my mom I have never forgotten or forgiven them. But I always loved mom for standing up for me against them she was the BEST!!!

My aunts daughter hasn’t spoken to her in over 20 years, because her mother stopped attending the meetings… The more ex JW videos I watch I learn something that help me to understand why my ex husband was so lost and seemingly confused ( 2x’s publicly reproved & DF 1)…. SMDH!!!!

Good interview! I'm being shunned and I'm no disfellowshipped or disassociated! I simply divorced an abusive husband married a "worldly" man 4 years after my divorce. They would have much rather me stay in the abuse that was affecting both me and my children just because he was a witness! Now my family talks to my ex who is still a JW but inactive but not me! You can't make this stuff up!

Hmmmm, why does this sound so familiar.....o ya, that's right.... they tried to stop me from leaving my 1st husband who liked to hit me.... they sent 2 brothers to my house that day.... one of whom is the one who molested me as a teenager.....I said if you like him so much you live with him, and that was that.....lol.....I feel for you deeply..... but please have NO regrets for leaving And taking care of yourself!!!!! Additionally, the woman who birthed me, still talked to him, had him and my son over to dinners (until I found out and put a complete stop to that!) But of course ignored her own daughter (me) forever since leaving the cult

You sound just like me, only I was abused on and off for 30 years. Elders were good boys with a abusive man who at the end I finally had him arrested for 2ed degree aggravated assault should have been 1st degree but I had trauma and my brain blocked what he was starting to do, going to kill me with a car strut! Now he is dead from a heart attack.

It's the micromanaging every aspect of people's life. They told my Brother not to invite me to his wedding. I'm not disfellowshiped. I just faded in 2008. And moved in with my boyfriend in 2020. They are still trying to control me through my family.

I am now being completely shunned by my family for expressing doubts and not attending meetings. I am not reproved or disfellowshipped. In the past 6 months, I have received exactly one text from an elder asking for a meeting, which I respectfully declined. The shunning is getting worse, they are going so far beyond the things written!

Ooh you're in same boat as me,I stopped or faded away 6months ago,but almost Brothers and Sisters,do greet me thu I don't like them greeting me,I struggle trusting Brothers and sisters anymore,most of them are real fakes,saving faces...Be strong enough and remember God Jehovah(He loves you unconditionally) is not a Jehovah's Witness... I think I was called a Gem 💎. My dad was disfellowshipped for alcoholism which he struggled with all his life. He had severe mental illness and he became a witness in his 50’s and me in my 20’s( not born in’s) and I never stopped talking to him and 6 months before he died I was with him until the night before he passed. Nope I was never gonna shun my dad. He has an incurable diseases and I still loved him. 💕💕

Got reinstated and went to 2 or 3 meetings and never went back. I could not physically stomach the fake prodigal son B.S. Today I am more spiritually grounded and motivated to draw close to God then I have ever been in my life. Those righteously disposed will be called out of this man made fear driven cult. You got my experience,I went to 4 Zoom meetings with no video on,kind of watching paint dry on the wall...I now have my own walk with God Jehovah and Jesus Christ...I do prayer,read the Bible in a very practical way... I'm done reading anything Watchtower Publications,they mislead a lot....Stick to the Bible and prayer

I loved the point Paul made about how we could be right and 8 million wrong. I know I’m not a exceptionally intelligent person and I know some witnesses that are. I think how could I see these wrong teachings and they don’t. I loved that you said you just read the Bible and follow Jesus!! So true! I have come to realize that these witnesses that are still in, that are very intelligent people, it’s that they are afraid to doubt or question things because that leads to the always dreaded Disfellowshipping!!

I remember when I was disfellowshipped. The night before I moved out my mom took my fathers ring that was given to me after he passed away and she told me she no longer has any sons since my older brother was disfellowshipped also. She told me she prays either we comeback to Jehovah before the end or we die before the end so we have a chance of being resurrected. Those words would always find its way to my mind and soul during my darkest hours.

Shortly after i woke up, i began thinking about Watchtower’s shunning policy and how widely it’s enforced- and it dawned on me- there is literally no family in this cult that remains undamaged by this unconscionable, unchristian, completely indefensible man-made policy designed solely to control and/or punish dubs in crises or dubs who are simply making a critical analysis, and by definition it punishes innocent family members by unjustly coercing them to requite said shunning, or face shunning themselves.

Great show everyone. Many fine thoughts. I disassociated in 2020 after 38+ years baptized. My family stayed in but I really feel for them and all JW’s because of the mind control. I’ve always enjoyed people so I guess I never feel alone but I also fell in love with Christ. That is a game changer because I have never felt so alive spiritually. Everything else pales in comparison.

I'm going to get me a copy of Carrie's book. It's probably a great eye opener. I feel so bad for those that have been shunned. Some of my family shun me but that's my cousins and I've not been put out of the congregation. So sometimes it's just you think something different and they are so scared because you dare to form an opinion contrary to the controlling society. Allhog wash but they keep up that way of life because they believe it to be absolute truth.

I think my not being a born in made it overall easier for me to wake up & leave. I also was always the only one on my family who was ever a JW I have a smart family to never join themselves lol. They were never interested, not mean about it but just like 'definitely not interested so don't even try' In the past few months I've even run into a man that had studied with JWs a couple years, came to meetings but never progressed to baptism, and when I mentioned I left he tells me I need to go back. Yes, from a guy who studied & never got baptized himself.

Do please get hold of a copy of DOOMSDAY DECEPTION - the rise and fall of the Watchtower Society (published amazon August 2021) which tells all. Based on more than 50 years investigative journalism and experience of a former JW. Soon after it was published the Watchtower Society removed Pastor Russell's graveside pyramid monument because of the revelations in the book.

Take it from me. Their children or grandchildren can be sick in hospital and dying. It might even be in response to some abusive behaviour coerced by this organisation. Neither child or grandchild will be hearing from the parents. The sooner you know you are on your own the better.

Most people live regular lives, school, work, recreation etc. Jws have routines written on a calendar, 5 mtgs, 10hrs knocking on doors, personal study etc! Every minute used. Losing all that puts you in free fall, they set you up to need them!

He said something to the affect if this is really the truth and from God the religion would not keep changing its core principles and teachings. Thank you all, your platform has been very helpful, informative, enlightening and insightful.. It helps me understand the true facts and identity of the longtime infamous organization for what it really is and how it operates from the inside.. I haven't seen my little sister since 2008 when our mom passed, she did not attend nor want anything to do with anything, the true ironies is that she has a husband who's an elder, I've yet to meet my niece that's about 15 now. This explains a lot, never could understand the distance.. I've been a Christian for 25 yrs, never could understand the power structure over so many professing Christians... Now I See! Thank You! This helps give me closure of something, l have no control over, yet l wait. Maybe in vain nun the less, still love my little sister, and likewise her family lnever got chance to know.. SMH.

“You disagree with some pamphlets by some uninspired guys” As usual J crosses the T’s! It’s just really that pathetic however shunning is a very sharp tool that works and is very effective. Ironically that’s why Russia cited they were an extremist group because of their methods that divided families and cited them as a threat to family life. The rabbit hole is alot deeper than that.. Russian history acknowledges that Christ and the disciples/saints were so called black people..alot of their historians openly acknowledge this and books have this info in it..along come the JW's who say that Israel was done away with and are passing out literature showing an image of Christ that looks nothing how he was pictured historically.

I have a step-sister that has been DF'd for over 20 years now. She has been treated as an outcast the entire time. Her mother, my step mother passed in 2004 and she was not allowed to have any say so in the funeral. No one would talk to her at the memorial service that was held in an assembly hall with 1000s of people. Over the years her children have been denied invitations to family get togethers. They don't know much about their JW cousins. Our parents had very little contact with my sister. My mother did have pictures in the hospital when the kids were born, which I was actually surprised at, but normal family relationships didn't exist. That lie told by the organization's lawyer struck me as I woke up. It made me keep looking and then I saw the lie that nothing would happen if a brother went to visit a faded JWs house and saw a Christmas tree. My jaw was in the floor. Then the "it would be presumptuous" to say the GB is led by God. After that, I knew for sure I was done. I was actually faded for the 2nd time but still thinking I was in the wrong. At that point I told my sister that she shouldn't feel bad or obligated at all because the organization is hiding pedófiles and lying in court. The organization did itself in worse than any apostate could for me. Seeing active, high ranking JWs lie like that on camera was all the proof I needed.

I Was Born In. At 19 I started growing my Beard. As time passed it became apparent that this young articulate black exemplary youth was straying. My defense was " Everyone, including the angels , have beards". 😇 I was Very Popular and so were my missionary Bethel parents. When i left at 21 and got into college it was official for me that JWs were bogus. I began to study history and Kemet, Rastafari and C T Russell and the Occult. Long story short I LOST MY MIND. I was not ready. I wound up homeless. Returned to my fam and JW. They did not disfellowship me. Why? I was POPULAR and articulate. They wanted a young body to carry the mics and gain privileges. I knew this was WACK. I stopped attending and my 2 brothers Shunned me to this day. I remain part of my parents life but only because they know deep down its wrong to abandon your child. They still practice but I have chipped away Slowly and discreetly with pure LOVE. My story is Epic....

I have a few friends that _had_ to go back because of the shunning policy. After they were reinstated, they didn't go back to the meetings/Zoom, but they had to play the game.

JW’s are anything but loving . My mother and sisters never even gave me a phone call when my husband pasted away. I was facing eviction because Social Security stops their checks two weeks after the person dies. I had no income because I quit my job to be caregiver to my husband. A complete stranger on the opposite end of the United States saw me on the Hannity show on Fox News and he bought me a mobile home then raised money to renovate it . My mother hasn’t spoken to me since 1997. She only talked to me a few times. Last time she was yelling at me to remember what SHE taught me . She said if I came back I would get everything I lost back . I told her I didn’t lose anything, I threw it all away so I wouldn’t be like the witnesses I knew who are liars and thrives.

Shunning is the worst and leaves one feeling like crap especially if one didn't take the time to research what the organization is really about. I feel especially sad for those who have families inside. That is why I believe it's important for doubting JWs to watch this channel as you guys have the means and information to help prepare people build their lives after watchtower.

My Jamaican non witness family used to call Jehovah’s witnesses Jehovah’s wickedness now I’m disfellowshipped I completely get where they are coming from 😂 I now go where the love is can’t beg for love and acceptance family or not !!! Sending love and healing to those that are having a hard time with being disfellowshipped gaslighted and rejected by the ones they love I hope you eventually find peace ❤️‍🩹🙏🏾 ✨

... I know of JW sisters that have had to endure physical abuse by their JW husbands and they were never told that they could leave him. In fact they were to be 'more loving' --- whatever that means (translation --- just take the physical abuse).

Thank-you all, spot on commentary. Yeh, the last time I got past the mothers A|M on the other side of the world oct. 2018 - hello mum how are you - "none of your business" - would you like to know about my broken shoulder then - "Look Robyn I don't want to know anything about you, I'm not interested in you, you mean nothing to me', then the phone smashed down yet again. I decided that was the last kick in the guts I was ever going to take from these people who used to be my family. Turned out I was wrong - the father died 5 months later, also none of my business apparently. My only crime after being faded for 30 odd years & always having what I thought was a good relationship with them, WAS to ask them about the ARC after I stumbled across it by pure chance in Feb. 2016.

@@paultheoutdoorsman Oh I'm so over them mate, I was to go on & find out that the father changed his will after a life time & had cut me from being a executor, even perjured himself in writing & called me a loveless daughter & entitled to NOTHING, even from his personal effects, the last time he picked up the phone to me was the middle of 2018, he called me rubbish & slammed the phone down, - yeh, after me spending nearly 3 years begging them all in snail mail letters & messages on their A\M, to please sort out their wall of silence before one of us dies, that I loved them all unconditionally & that my door was always open. I was forced to do intensive research of this religion I'd been born into & baptised into as a 15 year old kid for the very first time in my life, it took me 10 solid months, then I found & joined a ex jw support group here in the uk, now I'm a activist\whistle blower. I don't have a family any more, I did enough crying & pleading, & having sleepless nights to last me the rest of my life, these cruel vile toxic insane people will never be apart of my ever again & I'm extremely happy with my decision, there's only so many kicks in the guts that I was prepared to take. It come's down to self protection in the end, it just took me far too long to work this out.

I wish you guys would do a video on the mental health of Jehovahs witnesses. They’re told not to seek professional help. Some witnesses are truly mentally ill and I think the watchtower org can make a mental illness so much worse. I’ve also noticed mentally ill people are very attracted to this religion. I had a good friend who had a mental breakdown, she was never the same.

He committed suicide after murdering his whole family including coworkers. In his suicide letter he speaks of Jehovah, the resurrection and the paradise. I believe this man was a witness with a severe mental illness. I wonder if anyone in the org knew about it.
