Excellent performance by Jeremy Brett as Maxime De Winter in the adaptation of Daphne Du Maurier's work for the television.
A shy young lady company is in Monte Carlo when she meets handsome and wealthy widower Maxim de Winter, whose beautiful wife Rebecca has recently died in a tragic accident at sea. The two fall in love and when Maxim asked her hand, she accepts without hesitation. Yet his happiness is soon diluted. The couple moved to Monderley mansion, home of the Winter, where the new Mrs. de Winter discovers that Rebecca has left a strong impression on everyone in the house.

I am totally obsessed with Jeremy Brett such a fine actor. I watch every Sherlock Holmes movie I can get my hands on and anything else that he's in. I am only so very sorry that he is passed away quite a while ago, and that we cannot see anything new that he has been in England should have been very proud of that that one, I'll tell you that. I have had several different sites that I have been on, and on most of them I've left a word or two on what I think of this superb actor. I like this version of Rebecca better than the one that Hollywood did with sir Laurence Olivier . And if I am not mistaken he at one time either acted under sir Laurence Olivier or acted with him when he was a lot younger. I would also like to compliment the people who did the backdrops and did did all the decorating the sets for this movie because they were very very realistic and it made you think you were back in the thirties it really did. I love the way the English do their place and their movies and I'm not too pleased with what Hollywood has become but come but you English people are very authentic and right to the Core. Thank you for showing us outstanding entertainment it is most appreciated in this country.

I am obsessed with this movie, and I adore Jeremy Brett. Rebecca is my favorite go to movie when I have time to relax.

The actor playing Favell reminds me of a pudgy Curious George. For my taste, he's about as sexually attractive as a fire hydrant.

Yes, he is quite the fop, scoundrel, and dandy in this movie; which means he's done a brilliant job of convincing us he is Jack Favell. If he played a good hearted man with redeeming qualities, it would lend him inner beauty.

thraciangrapes Not quite sure what that has to do with his physical appeal. He definitely gets the unlikable part of Favell's personality right, but he has absolutely no veneer of charm which someone like Favell would hone and use to his advantage. For my money, George Sanders' portrayal of him as a glib, unctuous, underhanded jerk is perfect and he's very easy on the eyes into the bargain. BTW, no self-respecting fop would wear a bow tie and a ill-fitting tweed suit. Having said that, to each his own.

He does an excellent job of being detestable. For a moment, there was a look on his face that reminded me of Stanley Holloway, who played Eliza Doolittle's father in the movie, "My Fair Lady", also starring Jeremy Brett. Indeed, the actor, Julian Holloway, is the son of Stanley Doolittle. Maybe the family connection with Jeremy Brett helped him get the role?
