Realized we talk a lot about the Jonsered 2166 & 2172 but never put a camera on one. SO wanted to update my personal one to a more reliable configuration while keeping it as a "sample" of what Stock saws are. Presented a perfect opportunity to discuss the differences between the two brands offerings in that 70cc Pro & "Land Owner" class.
Also provided an opportunity to do a "show & tell" on my shop tools used to break that series of saws down to do bottom end repairs.

Hi again Walt. Top class vid,I found the part on "tools needed" very funny was laughing out loud.. I got my 2171 back together after bearings failed with skf and farmertec crank and some mods also. 3 of us had gtg on Saturday ran first 2 tanks through it ,all good. Ran my 350 also.. that's me.thanks for the entertainment bye..👍

great video again Walt hope your on your feet again soon with a diagnosis or repair , on a side note , when i pull apart saws for repair /fun or slight mods etc , i use a cutlery tray , which keeps all the small parts assigned to sections , not that it a big issue as you know all parts but its easy to lose the place of a small part :-)

They are both made in the same building. I was told by one of the salesman for them saws. If it is not good enough for a Husqvarna. Then they make it a Jonsonred.

Good stuff Walt! I always manage to take something away from your videos. I was hoping you might tell us what date (roughly) Electrolux solved the bearing issue in that family of saws? Hope you get yourself feeling better and are able to enjoy more of yor time on the water and in the woods!

Thanks for sharing Walt. I've wanted a 372 for years and an ad came up for a CS 2171. I was tempted to get it until I found your vid on the bearing issues. I think I'll skip it, getting to danged old to run one that big anyway. LOL

2171 won't have bearing issues, a 2172 and 2166 will if they are from before 2014. But the 2171 and 2165 are the original edition 372 based saw and last forever. SOLID saw. Grab hat 2171 :)

@@afleetcommand I checked a few minutes ago. It was in excellent condition, plastic almost looked new. Sold for $225, great saw, but too heavy for me.

Isn't it funny how the tools you use to work on these saws just seem to keep accumulating more and more, I think back to when I was younger how few tools I had and what I would use, sometimes very crude but was able to get the job done with what I had. I'm sure it was just an oversight i know you have talked about it's importance and have used one but it was not mentioned as a tool needed although its probably is the most important one you should have and use in my opinion, The Pressure/Vac Tester. As always I enjoyed the video

And I've had to build "blocks" for several maifolds/carbs. Have the Husqvarna Pressure / Vacuum test plugs for the 562/555/550 and 372 series saws. Had to build them for the 576 saws...so even those begin to pile up.

Question about ignition. I have a jonsered 670. Its actually a cutter edge fire dept saw that i converted back to typical woods saw. Ive been told by my local shop it needs the ignition replaced which is a 2 piece coil. They are amish and say the cant get these parts. Any insight? I would love to get this saw into a reliable good work saw.

I purchased mine, but I'm sure there are versions around that are open source. Don't know what to tell you other than look, I haven't in four years so probably not the best source on info.

Is there a high top cover the for the 2172 out there? Or one that will fit it to run the better 372xp filter?

I would check dealers or eBay. Can put a standard "original edition" ( Not X-torq!) 50mm 372 cylinder on that saw..:)

Will that ignition upgrade work on a 371xp?
@afleetcommand
@afleetcommand 5 лет назад
Any of the "black" OEM's. The new blue ones are all limited, many to either 13,000 or 13300. Your saw wants to be at 13500 no load...

What's the big difference between a 2172 and a 2171
@afleetcommand
@afleetcommand 6 лет назад
The 2171 is not an X-torq. Basically the 2165 and 2171 correspond to the Husqvarna 365 and 372 "Original Edition" I cover the differences between X-torq and OE a couple of times in prior video's....they are essentially completely different saw designs (XT vs. OE from either brand)
