Greg wanted the best of both worlds. He wanted to be a good guy AND get wealthy. But he lacks the confidence for either, so people just play on his greed and insecurity for their own benefit. He's still hilarious, but he's also becoming a proper tragic character. In a world of liars, his protestations of innocence just make him look more guilty.

People who write comments like this seem to forget that Greg isn't super rich and didn't grow up in this life and doesn't have any of the connections the other siblings have. He doesn't even have as much power as Tom. Greg is barely above a servant (servant as in Frank and Gerri, not actual servants) within the family. And fuck Greg's grandpa. Mister liberal ideologue yet never gave up his shares, has lived the good life Logan provided for him and is now giving it away screwing over Greg. I hate people like that. They are hypocritical parasites.

@@shaunf2946 the whole 'who needs a soul anyways' bit might be foreshadowing something more for Greg in the next season but he's still under Tom's wing. That's not him finally making the hard choice of choosing between the two worlds. But he has accepted that he has to get his hands dirty (suing Greenpeace) after getting disinherited, so my point might be moot. Still interested to see what happens with him

Funny how Greg lies to Kendall and said he had no choice to betray him, then Kendall actually gives him no choice to betray Logan

1. Greg already betrayed Logan by giving Kendall the document copies he saved from the fire. 2. Kendall literally gives him a chance to drop from the joint defense.

Ken is such a well written protagonist, and he's awesome in a way which is actually relatable. He fucks up all the time, and his development is never linear. Even after he makes grand decisions (basically season 2 finale) he still has to wake up the next morning and confront his demons. He never stops self-sabotaging because no one ever completely stops self-sabotaging. The day you start being effortlessly perfect is the day you're no longer a realistic character. Moments like these though, when he kills his emotions rather than acts on them are Ken at his absolute best. He doesn't react with anger to Greg's betrayal because the moment Greg betrayed him he started actively suppressing the part of him that views Greg as a human being, let alone a friend/family member. It wasn't that he was fine with it, it probably destroyed him, but the pain activated the killer instinct which turns friends and enemies into enemies and allies. He doesn't bother gloating or twisting the knife to make Greg feel guilty for betraying him, he just tells it like it is. He gets straight to the point, but the underlying message is clear. "You are no longer a person that I will try to protect. You have aligned yourself with my enemies for nothing more than personal gain, knowing full well it could lead to my ruination and so I will squeeze whatever utility I can out of you using whatever leverage I have and whatever guilt I feel doing it I'll suppress and move on and you have no one but yourself to blame because you betrayed me first." Ken's demeanor actually reminds me a lot of Micheal Corleone when he tells Fredo "You're nothing to me now." No fiery rage, no excessive guilt-tripping, just the kind of coldness you can only exhibit when you're actively deactivating every single one of your emotions so you can pull the trigger on someone you love. It's actually the lack of exhibited emotion that betrays how much Kendall was genuinely hurt by Gregg's betrayal. If it was just some random business rival that he was fucking over, he'd have some cockiness or some element of gloating in his demeanor, but he doesn't. When he tells Greg at the end "I like you, I really do." He's 100% telling the truth, but his tone betrays what he's really communicating. "I liked you, I really did. I genuinely considered you a friend before you stabbed me in the back." Keep in mind too, having an actual friend is probably something that Kendall has rarely experienced in his life. He's from an abusive hyper-rich family and has been surrounded by frenemies, sycophants and enablers his entire life. Also, this season in particular has been a terrible time for him in terms of learning what people really think about him, so Greg turning against him is probably a soul-destroying moment for him. Just after getting raked over the coals and mocked by the liberal media that he wants to align himself with and having his own sister publish the most private, scathing deconstruction of his character imaginable his last real friend in the world, who he thought genuinely liked him sells him downstream for an executive position at Waystar Parks. To me, the general comeuppance that Greg receives in this episode is a perfect example of the principle that while strong men can be evil, weak men can never truly be good. Greg's inherent niceness and bumbling social anxiety might be endearing, but his cowardice and malleability to the wills of stronger men make him like Kendall said, a bottom-feeder. Kendall's not innocent when it comes to betrayal, but when he betrayed Logan (the second time) that was the epitome of an almost impossible, but overall right thing to do. Yes it was arguably mainly self-preservation, but it was also a contextually rare act of complete and total honesty and accountability. Whatever your opinion of his morals, that move took serious guts. Greg betraying Kendall was the exact opposite, it was a shallow opportunistic play that was blatantly immoral for personal gain . It was a coward's betrayal, and Greg's finally started dying his 1000 deaths. My fingers are crossed that he redeems himself, his heart was always in the right place , he just needs to grow a spine. Grandpapa Ewan was right. Boy needs to start taking himself seriously.

It's also ironic that Greg who mostly being socially awkward somehow is a good player on politic more than Shiv who is major on politic. Greg plays neutral most of the time and he mostly thinking outside the box like how he photocopied the documents of cruise scandal and kept some of it when Tom asked him to burn it all which later used by Kendall for his blackmail against Logan. Also, he's a fast learner from Day One since Logan's birthday, he has seen the ugly side of his Grand Uncle's family. So, in order to him to survive, he has to pretend to be like them but still sneaky.

I still think someone from the inside will turn. Connor more or less threatened to reveal the "semen stains" of the company if Logan didn't talk to him. Tom, well Tom has the most to gain. It's obvious that he is a husband in name only. His own wife would let him serve the time behind bars. He could get an immunity deal if he flipped, as could Greg. Shiv probably wouldn't but could turn because no one shows her respect at all. It appears from the next episode preview, that Kendall may have lost momentum with the. DOJ and may have lost it all
@xtxpxhx
@xtxpxhx 2 года назад
I think the show is trying to hint Shiv is going to turn, with the Troy horse and stuff... Tom is also a huge wild card, he's definitely freaking out and if he finds that Shiv might cheat on him, he´ll lose it. (also kinda hinted on the last episode) Greg, I don´t see how Greg might get out of this tbh, I think he´ll ultimately ally himself with Logan and maybe take down his grandpa, I´ll love to see that. And the other two brothers, I don´t see it. Connor depends on his dad too much and Rome could maybe betray Gerry but not Logan
