Am I the only one who thinks that line seems to border on horribly cynical coming from SUPERMAN, the one who's supposed to see the good in all of us and all that? Not saying that's bad writing, if anything if this (in my mind) discrepancy is intentional, then it adds layers of depth to Superman's character. But it IS a CW show, so I'm not getting my hopes up.
@@omegagilgamesh but it makes absolute sense. Just cause he can see the good in all doesn’t mean he can’t over look the facts. And it’s not written by the CW
@@omegagilgamesh I don't think so. Infact the whole persona of Clark is based around people perceptions, the whole thing about clark is how did he hide who he was with some stupid glasses? but he behaved differently, carried himself differently and quietly went unnoticed.
Seriously though, Anthony Starr looks like an absolutely different person with glasses. Henry Cavill also tried wearing a Superman T-shirt under the Batman V Superman huge poster, yet no one recognized him. I'd say it is indeed the perfect disguise.
@@mattslupek7988 They're made from Kryptonian glass. Plus he gives off a low-level hypnotic suggestion that he's not Superman, at least per comics lore, that the glasses boost the effect of
His was great, hers wasn't bad,,but i feel like they didn't give her enough emotion. She barely reacted to finding out he was superman lol. Thats what you get with most shows these days i guess, under do the acting part.
I felt it when Clark said “people see who they want to see.” Clark and Lana saw each other with rose tinted glasses. Childhood first loves. Only showed their best sides and keep the other on a pedestal. They didn’t share their vulnerabilities, their darkest secrets./fears whereas with Lois and Clark, they shoulder each other’s darkness and carry it together.
Not even really that. People often view others less positively than they actually are, for their own personal comfort. Can't tell you how much this actually happens, especially if you're exceptional.
Henry Cavil tested this in NYC. He stood in Time Square wearing a superman shirt under the Man of Steel Billboard, someone asked him for directions seemingly without knowing who he is.
I felt for Lana the moment Clark said he came back to Smallville for Lana but that he saw that she was with Kyle by that point. You can almost hear Lana's heart getting crushed a bit by the realization of what she missed out on having with Clark. Not because he's Superman, but because he's Clark...and it's Clark that goes around saving people!
When lana said that just not enough what she was saying was that he didn't fight for her when he came back nor did he trust her enough to tell her the truth before he left it was to go to show that he didn't love her as much as she thought he did when they were younger I mean you got to look at it from her point of view Clark trusted Lois enough to tell her his entire secret and everything but didn't trust Lana enough that's a slap 🤷
When she was banging a new bf and engaged, she expected Clark to tell her the truth and beg her back. That is insanity. When u r superman, u know that only a very very special woman can share a life with you. Nana definitely wasn't special enough by gauging her action with other dudes. A pretty face is never enough as the only reason as a spouse.
@@ps3301 dude she help save his life literally not too long ago prior before this conversation she's his childhood friend and both of each other's first love I don't know how more special a women can get to a guy like that
thats most women these days sadly. "Oh im engaged and sleeping with a guy, but if you actually loved me enough...." Well, bitch, you looked happy. And Clark didnt want to put you in harms way. You seemed happy, and Clark realised that he had to move on because clearly you did. She's almost as toxic as Felicity and Iris from Arrow and Flash
First he didn't know what he would be himself then she was engaged to Kyle. In hindsight she of course wanted Clark to tell her back then and break her and Kyle up but that comes from a place of disappointment not love.
@prolastmedia6171 Excuse me, but Emmanuelle Chriqui has been, and pretty much still is “all that", in my humble opinion. Much more than this Lois (even though the actress does a great job, and on an emotional level she works phenomenally with that Tyler guy in the show).
I’m surprised a show featuring a DC hero is allow to be married, have kids and be a great parent /husband! Now if only the comics could mimic this feat.

Only Lana didnt die. Peter wouldve ended up with Gwen if she never died tbh. The man still stops by every valentines day on the bridge she died on just to leave a rose for her. But ye you're right it did leave a great foundation for them.
Gwen was the endgame in Stan Lee's eyes. Mary Jane was created as the tempting party girl to show everyone what a good girl Gwen was for Peter Parker. What Stan didn't expect was that the fans would come to love Mary Jane more than Gwen.
@@uncletaylorify yeah, and Stan didn’t expect the writers to kill Gwen while he stepped away from working on Spider-Man. He was planning for Peter and Gwen to end up together. Gwen was even based on his wife
I love her reaction, she was reasonably hurt and confused/concerned about the love they had cuz it was genuine and took up so much of their lives, this revelation really recontextualizes one of her oldest relationships and she wants to inquire about it, especially since another one of her loves just fell through, but she stops herself because what’s done is done and they both already moved on
For all those who believe that Lana should have been the one, recognize that Lana hadn't even been created yet when Lois and Superman had already been a full blown foundational love story, more importantly it is the Lois' character and personality that empowers Superman to handle his greatest challenges. Lana is the pure, naïve, exhilarating puppy love that we all go through. Lois is the grounded love story that grows. matures, and nurtures.
wel its pretty simple sometimes shit just happens,i mean in another timelie lois marries lex or that black dude so ya situation can alter depending on time and place amd choices made,am shure in some timline clark and lana are together.
Honestly I don’t blame Clark he wanted to tell Lana Countless times about his powers and it’s heritage. But he didn’t know how she would react. Yes he left Smallville but he did came back to her but she was married or at least engaged So he started over and Lois was part of the reason why he was fulfilling his destiny of becoming earth’s greatest hero. Clark felt bad every day for not telling her his secret. Honestly what was Lana truly upset about the fact that Clark kept his secret from her since childhood and depriving her of the chance to truly understand him or that he did not come back to her and moved on with Lois or the mixture of both and felt cheated out of what could’ve been between them.
In the comics she knew his secret but she walked away then she tries to wreck his marriage to Lois because she couldn't let him go. Clark was over her & his mom had to set Lana straight that she needed to on I recently found out Lana was or is having a relationship with John Henry aka Steel.
Wow, when Clarke stood there , trying to find the courage to tell Lana the truth......his acting was so good.....took me back to every time I tried to ask a girl out that I liked....
What Lana really mad about is how her life transpired compared to what it could of been. She would never had worry about Clark cheating on her. Everybody wants a superman but walk right pass Clark kent.
I love how this series always stayed true to the friendship and history that Clark and Lana shared. Like, it always felt like two friends picking up where they left off, but older. And I love that the show was so aware of the fact that Clark and Lana DID have this history and that it wasn't just put on the back burner for the entirety of the show.
Didn't Lana Say I love you to Clark before even knowing he was Superman . And plus in the show Lois Also Liked Clark Before she even knew he was Superman
As much as i love the chemistry Lana & Clark have. The deep love they have. If he chose her instead of Lois clark would of never left he wouldnt be what the world needs. He & Lana would of made Smallville prosper but he would of never progressed & knowing Clarks character, it would fill him with regret & the feeling of living a lie or not doing enough

The first love was pure and simple but it's not meant to last. It's to teach you the true meaning of love. That's Lana. The real love is hard and tumultuous but it's harder, it is not just emotion, it's actions. And that's Lois.
I’ve experienced the ‘amazing, but just not enough’ first love. Everyone deserves better than ‘not enough’, no matter how amazing it is. Because love that is enough is out there.
“Just not enough.” Right. He “didn’t love her enough” to beg her to dump Kyle to go back to him. You don’t ask someone to break up a happy relationship to please yourself, but that’s what she wanted - the chance to do just that.
tbf you also have to understand where she is coming from. She wasn't in love with Kyle anymore. He hurt her by cheating and of course with all that in mind she would've wanted for Clark to break them up. If she was happily married at that moment instead, she probably wouldn't have reacted that way.
@@JSmellerM Why does that matter? What should Clark have done? Come back out of the blue and beg her to take him back like a home wrecker? He did the mature thing and moved on.
@@LethalByChoice Of course he shouldn't have done that but it's not like she is thinking clearly in that moment. Her mind was just blown and she was in the midst of a separation from her husband. She also was just kidnapped a few hours earlier.
This scene was so heart felt. I would like to think every adult has gone through this. Reveal to an old crush that you loved them and what could have been. But then she blamed him for not loving her enough. How selfish. Like all adolescence, he was going through some crap, but far more then any of us can comprehend being who HE IS!! He comes back after finding himself ready to open his next chapter only to find that SHE HAD MOVED ON and because he saw her happy he had to move on as well. And NOW she is being selfish and practically saying "You should have broken us up and break Kyle's heart and not have my daughter." wtf-
@@CelicAWD tbf this came from a Lana who fell out of love with Kyle. If she would've been happy with Kyle at that moment she might've answered differently. At this moment though she just wished to never have been through the pain.
Love this show. The writing and the casting is spot-on. I hope they renew it. When I was a kid, I loved Smallville and thought it was under-appreciated. I've re-watched it since and still think that's true. I think the same is true of this iteration. The family and older relationships really make it work, IMO. The stories are really good with the superhero stuff being both integral but secondary. That's a recipe that should provide legs for an, otherwise, well explored mythology. That said, Lana is kind of a dick in that last scene. Comes off as a little incongruous even if her character is hurt.
I honestly don't get why she would have wanted him to make some kind of move then. He could see that she seemed happy with Kyle and because he was more concerned about her happiness than his own, he thought it made more sense to let her be happy with Kyle. It makes much more sense than trying to stir up crap between them to make her choose him over Kyle. Doing that would be more selfish and that's just not Clark.
@@workinprogress8978 He dodged a bullet there. Lois Lane will always be Clarks partner especially so in this series because Lois acts and feels like a mature and responsible woman/mother.
It's more of the fact that he didn't fight for her Lana was basically suggesting if Clark had came back to her she would have most likely took him back because she still wasn't over clark even though she was with Kyle 🤷
This was one of the better Superman reveals ever executed. Heartwarming, but yet really sad. Always felt Lana was the girl for Clark. Makes me think of the girl that got away and will always regret.
In the Snydererse all of Smallville knew. In "Man Of Steel" it's implied the whole town knew. They all knew something was off about Clark Kent but they all kept it a secret & never spoke of it. One thing that has dawned on me in all the discussions about this: Lois now *has* to keep up the lies or else her career as a journalist would be *over!* If the public knew how much she's been manipulating the truth for *decades* to cover for Clark and herself, she would never be seen as trustworthy ever again! Well it’s understandable since Clark was her first love and her marriage with Kyle was falling apart so she feels that had Clark told her back then, she would’ve got her happily ever after instead of the current situation she’s in.
But he never fought for her. He just ran. Again. She only was with Kyle because Clark ran away in the first place. Then he comes back and doesn't fight for her. So the question is actually justified. Lana - "Why didn't you come back for me?" Clark - "I did. You were with Kyle." Lana - "You should have told me!" / "Did you ever love me?" / "Just not enough." Seriously!? No offense, but that's so beyond selfish on Lana's part. This is everything wrong with the modern hot take on relationships: it's all about what makes ME happy, and no real thought to what you're bringing to the other person in the relationship. No thoughts on whether she's actually good for Clark, and no ownership for her choice to simply move on with the next available guy. No... her view is that Clark should have told her, broken up her engagement, and there's not even a shred of consideration of whether she'd actually be a good partner for him. In fact, instead of valuing any of his journey and opinion, she just puts all the blame squarely on him that he didn't "love her enough". If you needed evidence on why this version of Lana is a poor match for Clark, this is it.
Dude, chill. Cut her some slack and recognize the position she is in. She just learned she could've avoided all the drama and hurt she experienced with Kyle. This isn't about being selfish, this is about feeling alone. It's a "Why always me" moment.

At that age, what could Clark have said to Lana, especially when he had NO IDEA when or IF he would return. I truly believe, at that age, Clark did truly love Lana, and she loved him.
