I think what people are missing, from my perspective at least, is that’s Smallville. I’d bet most people know that’s Martha Kent’s son. Clark doesn’t get mad, literally ever. I bet it was a huge shock to see the nerdy, optimistic, sunshine and rainbows dude turn into a badass out of nowhere.
good point. No wonder the people reacted the way they did like "all good brah". They know this isn't normal for him, and that someone must have done something very bad to get him to be like that. (they obviously knew cuz clark said it loud and clear for everyone)
Love how Clark still apologizes for interrupting dinner. He’s a god level being who can do basically anything, especially when he’s angry, and yet he’s still a standup guy at heart. That’s Superman
And then gives such a kind and tender apology to Candice, assuring her that none of this is her fault witha kind tone and letting her come to check on his son. And the fan in me thought when he did that quick takedown that somewhere in the big wide universe there was a certain Dark Knight thinking "That's my pal."
He wouldn't be a god level being if he wasn't also a stand up guy. It's never the powers or the training that make Superman, Captain America or Batman heros. It's their courage, heart and compassion. And we can all try and be like them. I know this didn't need explaining, I just wanted to put it out there 🤷♂️
@@MrCCollins1993 I agree. However the way things are going currently they are slowly eroding all those masculine role models a franchise at a time. Society desperately needs to learn how to promote one gender, without tearing down the other .
@Darren Forsyth I don't think the ideals I referred to are gender specific. Admittedly I can only speak from my own experience as a straight, white male, but I genuinely believe that a girl or woman can see a Superman story and feel just as inspired as any man would. And I really enjoyed (most) of the Supergirl TV show as much as any Superman story.
One of the things I like and found interesting about this scene is that Clark doesn't use his name, he announces himself to the guy as "John Kent's father; Lois Lane's husband." His name didn't matter, just his relationship with the people that guy hurt, so that the man knew exactly what got him into that situation.
This is one of favorite scenes of the show. Clark is always telling everyone how he has to keep his anger in check, so it’s refreshing to see him channel his anger towards a prick
This scene is astounding. It’s great to see Clark standing up for his family. Not as the Alien hero Superman and not as the bumbling “Kent” persona, but as the man he truly is. The balance between the two faces he shows to the world. This is where the show triumphs and I, for one, am glad to see this aspect explored
@@ThomasFishwickthing is, clark may he who he is, but "kelt" is how he makes himself look to hide his secret. He isn't naturally a bumbling idiot, always looking smaller than he really is and all those things he does to hide it. Clark is a mix of both "kent" and superman, and he gets to be himself only around those he loves who know his secret
@@docomega7862 Over the various TV shows and movies I love how they have always cast actors in the Johnathan Kent role who know were strong but unassuming men. Kevin Costner in the movie, John Snider in Smallville, Glenn Ford in the 1978 movie were all normal strong fathers compared to how Jor-el has been cast. Clark is more like his Earthly father than his Kryptonian father even in appearance.
Most incarnations of Jonathan Kent embodied the values that American culture espouses but rarely lives up to: honesty, humility, fairness, compassion, standing up for what's right. That's what he passed on to his son. Those are the ideals of the earliest comic-book superheroes, and no one is a better exemplar of them than Superman.
THIS is Superman. He gives the person a chance, even though he knows it probably won't be taken. He ends it as quickly and with as little violence as possible. Even in this circumstance where he's seething with a father and husband's rage, he shows mercy. Then, when he's done with doing what he had to do; which STILL ended in him giving a chance to someone who many would say didn't deserve it by letting him leave on his own volition; Clark apologizes to the patrons if he has ruined their night then apologizes sincerely to the daughter and through his actions assures her she's not at blame at all by letting her come check on his son. Then he and his wife, LOIS DAMN LANE, offer her kindness in a time of need and are glad to do so. Superman how we like it.
Yes! People wanting Superman to go around ruthlessly murdering everyone like Omniman and Homelander know nothing about him. Sure, he could break the continent with Emmett's spine if he wanted to, but his restraint is a core part of who he is. Take that away, like the Injustice story did, and the character you're left with is not Superman. I really like how this show lets Superman get angry (like with the Tag scene in season 1) while still being restrained.
Yeah imagine if Superman wants to, that abusive man would spend the rest of his life in hospital, because he has no idea what Superman is capable of, the more he messes with Clark's son and his wife, the more worse he is going to feel Superman's wrath!!!!! He can't beat Superman.
What people don't understand is that Clark showed Emit a great kindness by not allowing him to brake his hand on his face when he took that swing 😂😂. Even in his anger he was still looking out for his safety
@@Saint_of_red When Clark lowered his head and said, "I'll come for you." Batman started cheering with pride as he screamed to Alfred "That's my boy! I taught him that!!"
The thing I really love about this scene is how it’s all really in character for Clark. People in town know him as a nice, kinda goofy guy who was raised right by the Kents, and is always ready to help anyone who needs it. Then they see a reasonable family man come in with controlled rage on his face, confronting a local jerk. Even then Clark stays polite, tries to get him to go outside, doesn’t escalate after a punch gets thrown- given their physiques and how Clark lives and works a farm, he could be reasonably assumed to handle this guy without any superpowers. Then, and only then, does Clark let him up. After the town saw him get humiliated by who they know as s decent man, who even apologized for interrupting their night. No wonder he told Lois Superman wasn’t going. Clark Kent handled this great just by being himself.
@@peterkuonji8493Yes. But unlike MoS, Clark showed compassion in strength. MoSjust messed up the guy's truck. That's questionable morality. This wasn't.
Me too! It was a subtle, yet powerful way to let us know just how enraged Clark was and then show us just how much restraint he was still able to exercise in that moment. Tyler’s Clark Kent/Superman is approaching legendary status for me!
Yeah when you have THAT much strength, the sheer precision it must take to deliberately hurt someone but only enough to scare them is crazy. Like any of us in that situation would probably accidentally break the guy's spine without even meaning to. I'm surprised Jordan hasn't accidentally killed anyone yet given he's been brought into dangerous situations while having powers for a lot less time than Clark, so less time to gain that precision. Sure Jordan isn't on his dad's level, but still.
Tyler is the best superman that we have currently. Much respect to all the other actors that played Superman including henry cavil, but tyler just brings it home.
Exactly what a lot of people says including Tom, George, chris and Brandon funny thins is the smallville series had chris Reeves, the guy that played Zod Terence stamp in the Superman he’s the voice in smallville
Hoechlin is doing a very good job, but the writers have also been giving him very good material to work with. I have no doubt that Henry Cavill or Brandon Routh could do as well if they had these scripts and direction.
The fact Clark didnt put his face though the counter is a testimony to his control, then holds him down like he is nothing but air. Peak superman being a great man and hero
@@Pogol13 yes sam is a top tier militar he would just fucc him up even in fromt of candice he is a human so he dont need to hold back... and also he dont give 2 fuccs about her.
I loved that! Kyle’s made some mistakes, but he’s a salt of the earth kind of guy. He had Clark’s back (and you can tell that he would have done the same for anyone else in that situation).
I love this episode. It showed how human Superman really is. Listening to his heart pumping during the scene shows how much he’s fighting to control his anger and powers while confronting this bad man. It’s almost like he’s homage to his father Jonathan Kent. Jonathan Kent didn’t play any games on the Smallville series when it came to his family.
People who are genuinely tough don't bully or brag. They know they have nothing to prove, and nothing to fear. It's the quiet strength that comes from knowing who you are, and Tyler Hoechlin is very good at projecting that.
@@krankgg8922 They haven't mentioned it but Before they Retconned S&L into being on another earth, an episode of Batwoman post-Crisis hinted that Clark gave bruce a piece of kryptonite for save keeping. so yes but no.
This is why I love about Superman. Deep down, it's not about his powers that make him strong - it's about the strength of his character and his moral compass instilled into him by Martha and Jonathan Kent. He is basically a god and could rip that guy apart without a second thought, but his sheer will at holding back both his strength and anger - unreal. Not to mention his impeccable manners, apologising to everyone in the diner for disturbing their evening. Class.
"It is a remarkable dichotomy. In many ways, Clark is the most human of us all. Then he shoots fire from the skies and it is difficult not to think of him as a god. And how fortunate we all are that this does not occur to him." -Batman (Superman/Batman #3, by Jeph Loeb)
If Jordan did that he would reveal himself, something they do not want him to do. Because there is no way a child like him can take on and adult with a gun. But an adult(Clark) beating up another adult is more believable.
@@gooddreams8495 yeas he can fucc him up with a normal punch and thats it they never would think he is superman son, they could think he was strong kid with skills
I absolutely love how they wrote Clark in this series. Major props to the writers and the actors. After all it takes real genius to write a story good enough to make SUPERMAN’S POWERS a minor point not in the story.
@@nickshad6665 - Which is not very smart, because there's nothing to say that Jonathan and Lois are the only people he has done these sorts of things to. In fact, given the scope of the X-K operation in Smallville that Jordan busted up last season, odds would seem high that Candice's father is somehow connected to Intergang. This is drifting into the kind of vigilante style underworld war that is usually a Batman thing.
I don't care. I don't care. I don't care. This is the HOTTEST that Clark has ever looked. There is just something about a man defending his family. Not even the violence, just stepping up. #loveit
The best scene yet. When the series started I was hoping for a diner homage scene. Then this episode came up and I was hoping it would be, and yep! Very well done.
I loved the scene where Lois says: "This isn't a job for Superman," and Clark calmly says: "He isn't going." Then proceeds to teach Emmett a lessen without destroying the diner...
@@johnweatherman5685 I can understand that, but that thought never crossed my mind. This show has consistently displayed the nobility and strength of character of classic Superman.
Absolutely! A part of me almost thought they were going to have him really hurt Pergande, especially with the heartbeat thumping in the background. I loved that they added that touch. It let us know just how angry Clark was, how it was bubbling up, but because he’s **Clark**, he was fully in control and restrained himself in a way that only Superman can.
Clark's humanity is what makes him Superman, he shows mercy despite having the powers of a god. Homelander on the other hand would've just punched a hole through that guy's chest without hesitation.
@@Brandon-vj6zz "It is a remarkable dichotomy. In many ways, Clark is the most human of us all. Then he shoots fire from the skies and it is difficult not to think of him as a god. And how fortunate we all are that this does not occur to him." -Batman (Superman/Batman #3, by Jeph Loeb)
The look on Kyle's face the moment Clark gets shoved and Emmitt pushed himself back instead is just telling. Guess everyone hasn't seen Clark properly angry before.
A major component of Clark/Superman's character is him being always conscious that he has the power to kill and cripple, but he refuses to do out of principle and always uses the minimum force necessary to resolve a situation. Power is nothing without control.
Kyle starting to get up because he thinks Clark is about to get beat up and then Emmitt nearly breaks his arms trying to shove Clark, who doesn't even move. The best scene ever.
I just love how this scene is proving how much Lois was right about Emmet being a pathetic coward : - Against Jonathan, a teen : Tells him to stop "lying" and even punches him. - Against Lois, a woman on chemo treatment at the time : Threatens to punch her too or even worst by flashing his gun. - Against Clark AKA Superman : Thinks he's a pushover but the second Clark shows superiority, Jerkface immediatly complies with whatever Clark tell him to do.
I think the thing that was also making him piss his pants was that Clark wasn't leaning on him when he was pinning him. He just had his shoulder in a bear grip and was holding him like a misbehaving toddler while he threatened him, and Emmet couldn't do a damn thing to stop him.
If this is Clark handling business with Emmit, Lord knows what Sam Lane would have done. Emmit would have been tranqualized, blindfolded, and sent to an abandoned island by the next morning.
Lois Lane is scarier. Superman, at the end of the day, would at worst hurt you physically and he'd do so as minimally as possible. Lois Lane? She doesn't even need to touch you in order to completely destroy your life.
THIS IS WHAT I WANNA SEE THE OLD BAR FIGHT!!! Superman 2 reference :) And i'm glad they are helping Candice she maybe is a good girl that unfortunately had bad luck and i'm glad she is trying to get things right
This is so refreshing because usually in other medias when Clark is confronting a prick he usually walks away and leaves embarrassed to show him being the bigger person but I love seeing him actually handle a prick and not look like a loser
I think the horrible disaster is that candace is going to have jonathan try sneaking into her room late at night, and superman would catch them with his super hearing
Because Clark was a seriously strong farm boy last time they saw him, he could have chosen to become a football player, and the Kent family is known in the community as tough folk, some people (like Kyle at first) thought he went soft as a big city reporter, but he shows them that he is still the same Kent boy.
I love how Clark doesn’t have any I’ll will toward Candice despite what her father did to his family. He truly is the best of us, even when he wants to break someone face. Amazing scene
He wasn't there as Superman, but as Clark Kent: husband and father. Considering what had happened and everything going on, how many would show that much composure?
I loved this scene. I loved it so much I had to rewind to watch it again and again a few times. This is peek Clark Kent. And u can tell Clark was holding back coz if he we went full strength, Emmett would have gone through the diner counter and would possibly be dead by the force slam. Tyler's Superman is such a great Superman. He reminds me to Henry Cavill at times.
The fact Clark is soo clam on the outside yet on the inside likely raging up and yet still tries to take the situation outside. Says all what kind of man and god like being he is.
Who ever said that ?? Scenes like proves that just because you can crush someone doesn't mean you should superman is not only strong physically but mentally he human always have to hold back we allow ourselves to lose our cool we can take it too far and hurt or worse kill someone
In all the versions of Superman I've ever seen, Clark Kent's greatest super power is his self control. His second greatest super power is his eternal optimism/respect for life. he could make Earth a living hell but decides to help mankind, instead. That is a lesson we could all adopt in our lives.
