Worth noting that Will was the top-scoring most-effective Leaf in the playoffs last year with 4 (?) goals. Had a couple more players found that number in the first round, the trajectory of that playoff run would have been different.

I am mainly a Habs fan but I also cheer for every canadian team (reason why I am on this channel :-D ). For a couple of years, I was hoping Toronto to bring back the cup to Canada but I feel they are mainly missing 3 things : defence accountability from the forwards, grit and goaltending.

The Leafs start to make sense if you think of them as a bunch of sleepy stat-chasers who don't have a hockey soul as a group. On paper they're a dynasty. A's and B's all around. You see it with musicians who go nuts mastering the most difficult techniques and forget what really makes a good band.

When I saw the headline last night saying “Leafs lose to the Montreal Canadiens in a game where they dominated play.” And I was like “that sounds about right”, “how many times have we heard that before”, and “hey that sums up their entire series in the playoffs last year!”

I've been watching this merry-go-round since around 1969 or '70. There was a point there when I still cared. Probably around 1993. Now I just laugh and laugh ...and laugh. "Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory".

Leafs fans were happier from 2010-2015 when the team was trash then they are with one of the best teams in franchise history. Unless the team goes 82-0 people will freak out over every loss.

Sorry but every game, lately, there is a Leaf forward that is not doing what they are supposed to....not for the whole game, but for the odd shift, here and there...and a lot of times they end up getting scored on. Will they learn from this loss? Isn't this what we say after every first round exit? Will they? We are in year 6 of this current team/rebuild and we still have the same problems that we had from year 1, defense and goalie (sorry, was never an Anderson fan)😪

Great game!

First, I’m obviously a Boston fan, but I’m truly a fan of the game itself. Second: I watched this game from start to finish. Two things stood out to me: 1. Allen was just outstanding for the Habs. 2. The Leafs seem to love playing in the O zone and are just crazy skilled, but they are clearly and glaringly deficient in the their D zone. Playoffs always mean you can’t score your way out of trouble. Tavares, the C, was pretty much invisible. The team lacks balance. That’s on the GM (hello, Bruins fans have plenty of complaints too), but the coach has to figure out how to coddle these guys into playing some damn defense. They aren’t better than FLA, TBL, and offensive skill-wise they are better on paper than BOS, but there doesn’t seem to be a balance for TOR. Playoffs are full of uncalled penalties. PPs are always at a premium. Balanced 5v5 has to carry the play to win. Love the Dangle perspective always (well, almost😅).

I’d like to inform all the leafs fans that Leon Draisaitl has officially tied Austin Matthews in goals. He scored three yesterday against the flames.

Save percentage doesn't look great, but for anyone that hasn't played, try keeping yourself engaged when you're basically standing around for 90% of the time you're at work. Some goalies need/thrive being busy. Some goalies struggle without that kind of rhythm and constant work.

Can someone explain to me what Morgan Rielly is doing on that 3rd goal? Everyone talks about Matthews but Rielly see the play coming and immediately vacates the point to go occupy a space that Matthews had 0 chance of getting the puck too and then is completely out of the play once Matthews loses it.

In my opinion this playoff run should be a factor in who should be traded in the offseason/trade deadline.. Willy was stellar in last years playoff being one of the best player but if he doesn't give us that same energy & become one of the best on the team again then I wouldn't be opposed to having him be traded by the deadline with hopefully Mrazek being traded before the next season starts Willy (if he doesn't give us last year's playoff performance or isn't one of the best), Engvall, Holl & Mrazek (trade before the season even starts) are the only guys I'd ship out next season With then resigning Blackwell, Spezza, Kase, Giordano, Lyubushkin, Liljegren, Campbell & maybe 1 or 2 years for Mikheyev he's been doing much better then I thought this year tbh & then whoever else that's on a NHL contract that's UFA or RFA should be gone 🤷🏼‍♂️

Carolina has entered the chat.....They out-shot the Rangers by nearly 2 to 1, dominated the game and got shutout 2-0. Quality vs quantity usually wins games. I get it that NYR is better than the Habs but the point still applies. The Habs just wanted to embarrass the Leafs due to their rivalry.

GG! I think Mikheyev was very prominent and seeing him moved up in the lineup was a good decision. I think Suzukis ability to quiet Mattews shows how impressive he is. BUT lets be honest here..Allen..Allen was the best player tonight BUT even though he definitely had to make some great saves I think the Leafs did what Steve has criticized multiple times, they got to clean of looks overall.

Just for an FYI ... The tripping penalty does not say anything about it being on purpose. If your skate causes another player to trip it is a penalty and it comes back to the refs not wanting to call penalties that involve the superstars in this league (Note not a uniquely Leafs issue).

This game was a great example of how stats don't tell the whole story. Montreal played very well for 60min, great work ethic, specially in front of the goalie. The leafs were getting good shots, but as long as Allen got the first shot, the D would quickly clear it. Willy, god dammit ... Terrible effort for multiple games. Gets moved to the 3rd line after some bad shifts. First shift demoted and he already makes a great steal as Montreal tries to breakout and then scoresvon the next PP. "Alright! I've proved I'm awesome,back to coasting". That's unacceptable. Unless he brings it in the playoffs like last year, he should be traded. This happens way too often for a key piece on the team.
