Depends on attractive hot she is, if she's good enough looking a prenup might do the trick. There's nothing wrong with a trophy wife if you can afford one and there are social advantages to having an attractive wife that might even come in useful down the line. Just make sure the paperwork is air tight and you keep what you make in the relationship without taking on the debts she has incurred.

And the sad part is she may be a nice girlfriend and have good intentions. If you're with someone 4 years there has to be some good qualities to her. I just think she picked a degree of study that just won't cut the mustard. Debt is not only frustrating it stems from a lack of control, and can be embarrassing and shameful...male or female. Part of me feels bad for her as well as him, because it sounds like he really likes this woman, but she has to show some responsibility now to save the relationship. It's a very bad situation for him.

I’ve been very happily married for over 20 years and imo the key to a successful marriage is mutual respect and similar work ethics. If you’re both lazy, that’s okay. If you both work hard, even better. But you can’t have one work hard and the other not. He will lose respect for her and that’s a downward slope to divorce.

I would not want Ale's situation for my daughter either and I would seriously wonder why my child ( male, female, other) would want to be supporting another adult. I feel bad for this guy man. I was in a similar situation with a girl that I dated for about 3 years. I loved her but her lack of ambition was just crushing. I ended up leaving her. Probably what this guy should do the same. It’s tough to make the decision but this kind of woman is not someone you make your wife.

As a boy mom, I feel it's my job to protect my boys from as much pain as possible ( boys or girls). If I were your mom, I would tell you that this relationship could cause aLOT of pain for you in the future. Financial and emotional. It may be hard now to let her go, but it will be less painful in the long run than it would be to pay her to leave via a costly divorce. I wish the best for this young man.

Private Arts degrees were for women that come from families that could afford tuition. If she won't get off the couch now she won't when they have kids lol

@Janet. Honestly, I am not mad at this female. She is doing nothing less than what countless women before her have done. This is a silent yet known thing deep among Caucasian women, and the men know it too. But it sounds like these men are getting tired of this old concept, lol. Frankly, after 4 years he should know if he wants to marry her or let her go, because she will not willingly let her white knight ride off without her. To a woman, 4 years is a long time, and no woman willingly lets a financially stable guy go if he isn’t hitting her up side her head every other day.

I've been where she is. My boyfriend of a few years did say these things to me and when I had to start over and get an entry level job, his support was wonderful. Took me a out 2 years to pay off my debt while taking over my financial responsibilities. We're still together and happy.

I don't agree with everyone saying he should leave, but I was this man who not only dated, but married someone in the same struggle as this woman. Unfortunately, my situation didn't have the happy ending. However, I hope your situation strengthened the bond between you and your boyfriend and that you have a long future together.

Sometimes people go through hard times and need support from their significant other, but they need to be contributing and working toward a plan to get out of debt. There's always exceptions to the rule but this callers gf doesn't sound responsible.

Dude. RUN. I just divorced my wife of 7 years for a similar situation. She would not work, and when she did it was odd/part time jobs. She was incredibly lazy and just sat at home all day eating and being depressed. Looks fade, trust me on that. What I was left with was an obese, depressed, and lazy wife who just wouldn’t snap out of it. $500 spousal support was our agreement for one year. That money isn’t much, and I will tell you I have so much more money in my bank account with her out of the picture. Most importantly, I’m HAPPY for the first time in 8 years.

Depression destroys the depressed person, their spouses, kids and their family particularly if without treatment and interventions... his love to this girl is real beyond materials .. I think he should not move on further in this relationship until this issue is fixed.
