THANK YOU for mentioning street snaps. I'm so sick of people complaining that something 'Isn't lolita' especially when it comes to styles like oldschool. It really shows when someone has never looked at a jfashion magazine.

I watched the original extreme weather video when it came out! Another thing I realised as a citizen of a cold country myself, platforms around 5 cm are safe to wear in the snow and keep your feet above the frozen ground, it helps with warmth more than anything imo. I straight up wear platform mary janes when it hits 2 degrees Celcius and I'm still warm if I wear cashmere/wool tights (but my shoes are leather and I'm not sure how pleather would behave). In comparison, if I wear flat ass goth pikes, even with wool insoles and wool socks, I'm freezing and basically on the verge of death. Also caoutchouc soles!!! They stick to everything and I've noticed that I was able to walk on really solid ice in a more or less normal way.

Thank you so much for this video!! I genuinely struggle with wearing lolita in winter because while I really love capes and how hot they'll keep you and how fun they are, I find that they're not that easy to carry if you get too warm and aren't that practical to wear (lifting your arms can be a pain sometimes) I love how you stress the fact that having the appropriate clothing for the weather is important (with the weather boots for example!) And thermal clothes are a godsend in cold temperatures!! Again, thank you for all your content, you've been one of my main lolita fashion inspirations and I wouldn't have been so passionate about this fashion had I not found your content!

Additional tips for wearing Lolita in (Canadian) winter from Lolita doing it for 10 years: -Get appropriate footwear. I use Manitobah mukluks. Anything that has some iota of waterproofing will protect your socks from slush. It should be at least 12 inches high if it's snowing or if there are puddles of that black slush on roads. Ugh. You don't think they're cute? Try wearing lace trimmed UTKs where the lace peeks out over the top of the boot. Perfection. -Buy "flesh toned" fleece-lined tights. They come in a few different shades of "nude" these days, hopefully one of the shades is somewhat near your skin tone. This way you can wear whatever socks you want without getting frostnip. Can even layer fishnets or sheer tights over them if you want. -Wear full bonnets. These guys completely cover your ears and encase your head. They're perfect for winter. -Buy some of that conductive silver thread and sew it into the fingers of your gloves / mittens. This way you can use your phone screen without removing your hand protection.

I struggle to find coats warm enough for me since i get cold easily, so its encouraging to hear from you that everyday lolita is FINE to wear and not be ahsamed of not wanting to get sick in winter just to look "rule abiding" for lolita fashion

I love winter lolita coordinates, knitwear and big floofy coats are just so comfy! Although having said that, it doesn't get anywhere near as cold here in the UK, perhaps I wouldn't be such a fan of winter lolita if I genuinely had no choice but to wear it to every meet.

OMG *THANK YOU* for giving me permission to have a coat that is functional rather than fashionable. I don’t know if a coat suitable for outdoors in cold, cold temps outdoors for an extended period of time even exists, and if it did, it would go for $$$$.

For any plus size folks looking for a coat, it can be really hard to find them from actual lolita brands, but retro brands like Hell Bunny have some good coats with space for a petticoat. I have one with some gorgeous fairytale embroidery that I got second hand.

Adding in a little more advice! Where I live (pacific northwest) we rarely get snow, but we do get a LOT of rain in the winter. Modern AP & baby parasols double as umbrellas and are perfect for winter! I also have a couple lolita rain coats that maintain the shape of my dresses/skirts that I LOVE, but I prefer the parasol so my legs and feet stay more dry. Also, Amavel is a great brand for lolita coats! I have 2 coats from them, one by way of closet child and one I got new during their coat release this winter. They keep me cozy and cute, I love them!! And I love that they fit my western shoulders-- something I can't say about AP or baby most of the time sadly. I like to wear them with my non-lolita clothes too if my partner and I are going out to a nice dinner, to a musical, etc; they really add that elegant vibe to whatever outfit you're wearing~

A short black biker's jacket would work for goth. There are also bolero jackets in faux fur that would be very cute pairs with a coord of an animal print that matches the fur (bunny, bear, lamb...). Add a kawai hat, like Lor's, featuring the same animal, and boots that have a similar color faux fir lining sticking out the top! If you have more than one jfk that includes that animal (I bet you do), you could even have more than one winter coord.

kudos to those that can find cute Lolita winter footwear! I imagine you could also change shoes once you get indoors but if anybody seriously wants to criticize a functional pair of boots, I dare them to try trekking through several inches of snow with a bonus layer of ice on the sidewalks 😅

I have a few tips for winter lolita wear as I live in the mountains. First wool socks really help especially if your feet get cold easily. You can usually hide them in your boots if they don't match. Fleece lined boots are also really nice and you can get them in quite a few colors like pink and burgundy. Also fleece shoe insoles! Then fleece lined tights or leggings are a game changer. You can usually hide that you are wearing leggings with boots and you can layer cute socks or tights over either one. Ok now bloomers. Flannel or fleece bloomers are super warm but if you don't sew might be tricky to find. You can diy a pair of flannel pj pants into some or I have a pair of cut off sweatpants that are really warm. But of course I completely hide them under my skirt because they are not cute. I have seen some historical quilted petticoats which I considered but I'm usually fine with leggings and bloomers. 2 winters ago I got a linennaive wool coat and it is amazing! I wear it all winter now. It is definitely more classic looking but it does fit my petti under it nicely. Finally have a cute selection of hats, scarfs, mitten/gloves. They are even fun to pair with your coord when you take off your coat and can turn a plain coat cute!

Definitely recommend HATS or any type of headwear that cover your head if you want to stay warm. A lot of heat escapes out the top of our heads. You'd be surprised how cozy you can get with a good warm of gloves/mittens, proper boots with warm socks, and a good hat.

Not a lolita myself but I've been watching your videos for about 4 years. And since I usually wear 1950s vintage styles and circle skirts even in winter, a retro style coat can accommodate a lot of poof and be cute at the same time. 😊

A cute boot option is the Demonia Camel 311. It looks like it would be pretty warm with thick socks. It has fake fur, which would look cute with a winter coord. It's available in all pink, brown with white fur, all white, and all black. I haven't tried them. But I think I will have to get a pair black for some gothic or spooky sweet coords next winter.

One thing I didn’t expect to work to keep warm were leg warmers. Yeah they’re called leg warmers but I didn’t believe it. But I tried them and they really do work! I’m pretty sure it’d be easy to get some cute colors. Maybe commissioning an artist to make some

Funnily enough, i don't actually own any lolita clothing, I'm a goth who wears a lot of thrifted clothing. it's just something I've been interested in for a really long time, alongside other j-fashion like decora, fairy kei, etc. I am thinking about actually getting into ouji soon though 🤔

I’d say the term lolita is specific to those who wear it or are at least attempting to wear it. (And chopping up an old bed sheet & thrifting a lolitable blouse to me counts, the bar isn’t as high as some might think) If you just take inspiration or haven’t made a jump yet due to price or courage, I’d say the “proper” term would be j-fashion enthusiast (or something to that effect) or lolita fan. If you’re really planning on becoming a lolita I could see you referring to yourself something like prelolita or prelita. You can also totally wear lolita inspired outfits and refer to it as lolita inspired or maybe even as kawaii fashion. If you have some pieces but not enough for a whole coord, I believe back in the Live Journal days they called mixing lolita items in nonlolita outfits “a la mode,” so you can use that too. For what it’s worth, I just want to say I 100% understand where you are coming from. It’s weird to be in a liminal space where you engage so much in a community but you haven’t technically made the leap to be in it. I myself personally struggle on whether or not I count as a Lolita even though I have both indie and big name brand items because of my unusual styling and not wearing it a majority of the time. (Not to mention a big use of non brand items that a classic and sweet would probobly argue on whether or not it actually is lolitable, as different sub styles have different standards) Because of this, I totally get self conscious when all my (nonlolita) friends refer to my outfits as Lolita because I’m worried the Lolita police arrest me for high treason for giving people the “wrong” idea of what Lolita is. My advice is honestly don’t worry about marking yourself with labels so much. It’s not the most important thing in the world, and if you really need something to describe your inner self to others- just describe what you love about lolita. It explains a lot more about you than any other terms could. -Sincerely, your local classic(?) Lolita(?) 💜✨⚰️✨☂️ (P.S. -If at some point some people think you fit the criteria of lolita, then that’s great. But don’t forget where lolita comes from. There’s a lot of old school that modern Lolita look at as “”nonlolita”” today, so really, really, don’t worry too much about it.)
@kirstenc6221
@kirstenc6221 4 месяца назад
Blagh RU-vid isn’t letting me edit my comment I just wanted to add that it’s also very weird because the price of a lot of lolita leads to people being “into” lolita for longer than “being” lolita, so you definitely aren’t alone💜 Okay I’m done with my essay/soapbox now haha
