I don't understand how you don't consider Monahan any different than the Tiffoli signing. Monahan is also there to mentor our young centers (Fantilli, Sillinger). How is this different?
I agree the Monahan term is slightly too long and one of the reasons we went for him was to get more veteran presence on the roster. I can’t see us keeping Jenner and Kuraly around for too much longer and Lindstrom is going to take at least a year to make the roster I’m guessing. I actually think with the cap going up the salary will be fine at the end of the contract. If Waddell went after multiple guys yesterday I would’ve been worried but this is a fair deal imo.
How is the Monahan deal any different from those deals San Jose and Chicago made that you pointed out at the end? You can apply the same logic that Monahan was signed as mentor role and to help develop guys like Fantilli and Lindstrom that you applied to San Jose and Chicago? Makes no sense whatsoever.
I’m a lightning fan and my opinion on this is I would rather pay Hedman cause he is still a top 5-10 D man and he could make more on open market but I do think JBB could’ve easily paid stammer like 5 mil which he said he was fine taking to stay
Off-Topic but Hurricanes do love signing their offensive defense man cause they projected have Burns (Just Signed Walker which It a great deal) Gostibehere and DeAngelo on their roster
@@MikeBartnerI agree about Pesce and Skjei, Im a canes fan and glad we didnt overpay 7 mil for him. But Im not feeling great about this new GM right now or our roster next season. Will have to wait to see what trades we make with the cap space we have left
We had him in Vancouver, and although he's no 1C, the guy is a beast in the circle, checks hard, physical play, a pain to play against, and a clutch guy. You get a good playoff bump, too.
Toffoli's contract was also pretty much what was expected. Evolving Hockey had 3x6.1M and AFP Analytics had 4x6.02M. You could argue that the fourth year and the NMC are a "bad team tax" but I don't think it comes close to a worst signing. There's more of an argument for the Wennberg signing since that's probably around 2M more than he'd likely have gotten elsewhere, but getting some insurance in case Couture can't play and the two year term is short enough that it doesn't hurt them (Eklund will be the first player due a raise and this deal will be off the books at that point, as will Vlasic's deal and Burns' retention, literally only 18.6M on their cap for that year).
We had no assets to give we already have zero picks and prospects. Considering he’s 33 in center AAV I really don’t mind Lindholm he’s built for the Boston system and they wanted a right shot for Pasta I just don’t think Necas was feasible. The term blows admittedly.
Preds fan introspective here: Skjei is def a long contract for the price, but we needed a SOLID replacement for mcd and honestly Skjei looks to fill that roll. Along with continuing to push stastney on to greater heights our defense just got rebuffed. But our REAL issue is the powerplay and scoring goals. we were 15th last year which is by no means bad but we didn't score goals when we needed it most. We had a TON of capspace to fill, and even with our DEAD cap we managed to pull 2 40 goal scorers. One of which could potentially boost our PP to top 10 ideally. Is stammer expensive? yes. But i see the extra money as a tax to make sure he came to us and not someone else. He clearly wasn't happy with what Tampa management offered (if i was him me neither) but our extra few million sealed the deal. It's quite clear we are pushing for a cup in the next few years. March was a good deal, and Stamkos will be if he puts up the same numbers. despite the price i think they were good signings and at least on paper, we nashvillians are quite happy. Just cause the price is large doesn't mean it wasn't worth it, plus we had plenty of money to go shopping
Thank you for your thoughts on Nashville. Everyone is hyping them up and saying they are now a legit contender. They are being very overrated. Good on them for getting the big names, but I don’t think the contracts are fantastic
they are good for the next two years but bad after that. However you win a cup next year or 2nd year, those contracts will look great. You now have multiple cup winners on your team. Lots of playoff experience. That doesn't come cheap.
Lindholm should fit very well into Boston's system. Last year's team was a textbook gap year team, it'll be really intersting to see what the B's can do with the "Bergeron light" they already wanted to retool with.
Can’t stand this. The cap floor this and next year are moving up substantially well. These are not overpays. This is why agents don’t ask for dollar amounts they ask for cap percentages when they negotiate.
i think the monahan deal is great, Itll help CBJ now, and in the long term. While its a good amount of term to give to an older guy, he can help mentor the younger players, especially centers like Fantilli and Lindstrom, help their 2 way and faceoff game. + johnny hockey
@@user-tz6mk4xv5s nurse has offensive upside. Dumba just has trash all over him in every direction. how a guy that can't get in a bottom 3 pair of d in Minnesota keeps getting moved, now gets paid....what do GM's see in him before he gets to the team?
I might get some flack for this but this is the most overrated free agent class that I’ve ever seen. I starting watching in 2010 but I was young during those years lol
One thing Id say If the players signed for these amounts It means there were teams PLURAL willing to pay these rates Value is based on the market, not players and agent's whims and beliefs. It is not like the players set these prices and hoodwinked the teams into paying these salaries. There were several teams offering Stamkos 7-9m per year from between 2 - 4 years I have read, so he took four years at the rate that was being offered. Only the term i think is an issue. He is id say a good bet at 8per for 3 years. Also remember the Predators were very good at even strength. with Josi and Forsberg they really needed to find a sniper. Theyve also never replaced Ryan Johansen. The one i think you missed was the Sharks, who have NO chance of making the playoffs, signing Toffoli. The price is fair bit for the sharks it makes NO SENSE!!!! The players you chose i think benefit teams that are aiming high I would also add the worst non signings would be the Rangers who were embarrassed by Florida. With their Cup window bout to slam shut they really needed to do something. Zjad and Panarin are simply NOT playoff performers as they are soft. They needed to sign someone like a Nichushkin (not him obviously)and were silent. Shesterkin will want out soon before he turns into Lundqvist and see his career in tatters.
