I did the same type of challenge with my 55 1.8. I did find myself shooting better composition because I had to slow down and think the shot through.

Awesome video! Thanks for sharing the settings used, super interesting. In some of your early shots during harsh daylight you were shooting at f/1.8, 1/500, ISO 500, any specific reason why your ISO was so high? Isn't it always better to keep your ISO as low as possible to reduce noise?
@jamesjackson4264
@jamesjackson4264 4 года назад
Glenn Joseph the camera can handle it with no problem. Most cameras made in the last 5 years have no issue with this. If your camera has noise at 800 you have the wrong camera or need to work on exposure.

Hey Manny, massive fan of your work, photography and tutorials, you're one of the main influences for me recently purchasing a sony camera!! I have one question in regards to shooting in natural light, I was always taught to shoot at ISO 100 but noticed you were shooting at 500. Was there any limitations for you not to shoot at 100 during the lighter photos or does the camera perform better around the 500 mark? This could be a completely uneducated question but just one that popped into my head whilst watching the vid :) Again, huge fan and appreciate the work you're producing! Thanks
@severgun
@severgun 5 лет назад
Seems like it was cloudy day As answered above. If he change settings form iso 500 1/500 to iso 100 he will get 1/100 or 1/125 shutter speed which can cause blur due to hand shake, model shake, wind can blow hair, etc
@sadbravesfan
@sadbravesfan 4 года назад
@@severgun if that were true how come his last shot was 1/30 shutter speed? It's because Sony's can handle high ISO without noise. I was also shooting 100 ISO during the day but then this past weekend someone told me to bump it to 800 and my shots came out even better and it was overcast. Most newer cameras should not be noisey at even 800 ISO

@0:55 why is your ISO and shutter speed so high? There seems to be enough daylight...
@sadbravesfan
@sadbravesfan 4 года назад
Not sure if this is the correct answer but yesterday I was out shooting in the daytime an event with overcast skies. A photographer I ran into told me to bump my ISO up to 800 because Sony's are really good at high ISO without any noise and it would bring in more light. I always just kept it around 100 during the day but they turned out better so now I'm not afraid to increase ISO. I was more wondering how he got the last shot with a shutter speed of 1/30 and no camera shake. I need to learn more about what the lowest shutter speed you can use handheld because so far anything I did 1/50 or lower ended up blurry but maybe I have another setting that's off.

Why ISO 500? Not 100?
@KetKet127
@KetKet127 6 лет назад
José González ISO 100 would put him at 1/125th or less shutter which could ever so slightly reduce the sharpness. Portraits you wanna stick to 1/250th and above.
@jamesjackson4264
@jamesjackson4264 4 года назад
José González any camera over the last 5 years can handle this with no problem. You won’t see a difference between these ISOs. If your ISO 500 looks bad you have the wrong camera.
@Old_Man_Jay
@Old_Man_Jay 4 года назад
@@KetKet127 I disagree especially if your camera has built in stabilization. I personally do a lot of my portraits at 1/125th, sometimes a little slower with no problem. And with proper technique my shots are almost always sharp.
@KetKet127
@KetKet127 4 года назад
@@Old_Man_Jay to each their own buddy. Clearly Manny knows his stuff and makes loads doing it. If you want to make studio printable quality stuff without checking for blur every shot, you play it safe with your shutter and correct in post slightly with noise correction. Also 11 people seem to agree with me.
@sadbravesfan
@sadbravesfan 4 года назад
@@KetKet127 11 people and you obviously didn't watch the whole video because he even has a shot at 1/30 shutter speed so your claim that it'll be blurry, etc. is proven wrong in this very video. As the other guy said, it's because Sony's can handle high ISO without producing noise.
