Lost your car title? How can you register your car in your name without the title? Fortunately, getting a bonded title is a possible solution. Here's what you need to do to get a Georgia Bonded Title.

Step 1: Verify your vehicle is eligible for a bonded title with the Georgia Department of Revenue by calling (855) 406-5221.
Non-eligible vehicles:
• Abandoned Vehicles
• Vehicles made before 1986
• Vehicles with an active lien
Also, you must be a legal resident of the state of Georgia to receive a Georgia Bonded Title.

Step 2: Get the value of your vehicle from The Department of Revenue.
Step 3: Get your vehicle inspected by an authorized DMV employee or law enforcement officer.
They will fill out and give you a Form T-22B Certificate of Inspection.

Step 4: Get a Lost Title Surety Bond.
Contact your insurance agent for assistance with your GA Certificate of Title Bond.
Use the value of your vehicle given to you by the Department of Revenue to determine the bond amount you need. The bond amount is double the value of your vehicle.
As an example, a vehicle valued at $3,000 will require a $6000 bond.
However, the minimum bond amount cannot be less than $5,000, even if your vehicle’s value is under $2,500.
Step 5: Complete Paperwork

If there was a lien on your vehicle, then include a Notice of Satisfaction of Security Interest or Lien Holder's Affidavit Form: dor.georgia.gov/sites/dor.geo...
Step 6: Submit Paperwork
Submit all completed paperwork, Surety Bond, any ownership papers (like a bill of sale or lien release) and the $18 title fee to your local county tag office.

After your submission has been processed and approved, you'll receive your vehicle's title with a bonded branding.

What percentage am I charged of the 2x value of my vehicle ? for example if my vehicle value is $3750 x2 = $7500. What is the percentage of the $7500 do I have to pay in the state of Georgia ?

What if the seller I am trying to buy from (let’s call him X) bought the vehicle from another seller (let’s call him Y) and received a void title? X couldn’t register the vehicle or reach Y so X listed the vehicle for sale. If I buy this vehicle from X, is a bonded title an option for me?

Hi, My situations is that when i was active duty i bought a car with only the bill of sale from another service member stationed in GA, He promised me the title as i moved into another state and so did he. He has refused to give me the title, and since i am not a resident and out of the military now. can i still apply for a bonded title?

Can I do this with a boat. I am from GA and got a boat cheap. It is a 2000 yr suntracker partdeck 21. The guy swears he had the title but he will no longer answer the phone. I need help.

Great question, Corey! Most states do allow vehicles with bonded titles to be sold, as the bonded title functions the same as a regular title. However, the bond stays under the name of the person who purchased the bond until it expires. Some states also require the buyer to purchase a new bond. We recommend you verify with your local DMV to determine if this is required.

So when you set the value of your vehicle and purchase the surety bond say your vehicle is valued at $5,000 and the surety bond doubles it to $10,000, do you have to pay the bond company $10,000 or what?

Great question, Brendon! No, you don't have to pay the full bond amount for the bond. Typically, the cost of a Certificate of Lost Title Surety Bond is around $100. This cost is known as the premium and it's a one-time fee for this bond type. In Georgia, the term length for a Certificate of Lost Title Bond is four years.
