Yeah I use a flash on mine from time to time and it does freeze up to the point where I have to take out the battery and put it back in. Wasn't terrible but it just sucks up time on a job. So 2.1 is 👍🏾 with me lol
G9 is my main body for sports and action photography. I have had a few issues of lock up using SH1 burst mode...but I think it was more card related than camera related. No issues using flash on G9...both horseshoe mount and wireless trigger.,

Oddly - given the firmware fix - a thing you can't do with the G9 is shoot continuous drive with an on-camera flashgun, it will only allow single frame shooting. Maybe a feature to dissuade any paparazzi or court steps photographers from using a G9..? Much as I really like my G9, this made the camera almost useless for my work as an editorial photographer, when I often need to shoot a few consecutive frames with a 'speedlight'.
Wow I never realised Andrew!! Thanks for the insight on that. It must be the reasons you've stated.. I reckon Panasonic really wanted to market this camera to photographers and wilflife/sport. All the promo vids when it was released where safaris and things like that. Its certainly got the chops under the hood to be capable of shooting continous with a flash. Surprised they didn't add the feature in later? Although with this firmware 2.1 fixing a flash realted issue, maybe there is something off with Panasonic and that tech for them? I don't shoot flash so it's never even crossed my mind. Thanks for your comment 😎
My biggest disappointment with G9 is the lack of focus transition/movie snap feature. I am using G9 as my A camera and I usually go with native focus by wire lenses. They (Panasonic) really want to keep this camera different from the GH5, I really cant understand it. I would be ready to pay for this feature. G9 is just such a good piece and I truly prefer it over the GH5. I dont even expect something like linear focus by wire (which seems to be a stupid software limitation). This would be all dreams come true for the m43 mirrorless budget filmmaking... Do you guys think all these things are beeing maintained to force the customers to buy more expansive gear? Lets hope the hard market competition will make them change the position on this...
@N. D. I will no doubt do some sort of video but at the minute I am just testing it out. At the minute it seems like vlog is only really needed in high dynamic range scenarios such as outdoors. Did a test last night and cine D was more than adequate to cover the scene I set up which was kind of annoying.
The code running on the G9 is proprietary....known as a 'binary blob' because we do not know what is in their code. Firmware v.2.1 was released ostensibly to fix an issue rarer than rocking horse shit. Truth is, we have no idea what changes they are making to their code. Could be to fix the flying unicorn problem....but might not be. I love my G9 but have not upgraded to v.2 or v2.1 because these upgrades disable non-oem batteries and battery grips. Next thing you know they will upgrade the firmware to force you into a razor blade model where you have to keep paying them to keep your camera working. Great camera...pity the code is not open source
After firmware 2.2 update my 3rd party batteries don't work anymore. Panasonic battery works but Wasabi batteries get a notification that they won't function with camera. Anybody else have this issue? Thanks.
I was about to do it and saw this comment lol, do you have the 2.0 or 2.1 still handy? I would like to have these as and option in-case this happens to me as I have 4 wasabi batteries and no Panasonics. I just got my device and it's still on v1.3 unfortunately.
Hi sir ive got a question ive updated mine today. It went from version 1.2 to 2.1 Now is that a problem? maybe its stuppid to ask but when you install 2.1 does it also include the 2.0 updates? Or?? Do you need to go from 1.2 to 2.0 to 2.1 ? Please reply
Hi Connor, howzit goin’? I don’t use flash on my Lumix Cameras so I won’t be bothering with this update I think. You mentioned transcoding LongGOP, what App do you use for that and what do you convert it into?
Hey Colin! Don't blame you for not updating to 2.1. The LGOP is such a messer of a codec, I use Adobe Media Encoder to turn it into something more friendlys. That can be a h264 .mov or something like dnxhd (though file sizes get a lot bigger with some of these wrappers so play around).. But you can always just make proxy files of the LGOP files in your video editor and edit with them for better playback and it will export then using the LGOP do you'll keep the highest quality that way. It's whatever works for you. What do you edit on Colin?😎
@@CreativeConnor so I have fcpx on my 2018 Mac mini with 3.0 GHz i7 & 16 GB RAM with 512SSD. It copes pretty well considering. I create optimized media at the point of download (and put the kettle on) and after that it's not too bad although I have noticed recently that when I drag the MLUT loader onto the timeline then it starts a long rendering process before I've even selected a LUT and that seems wrong to me so I am researching other methods of loading LUTS. On the GH5 I have C1 at C4k all-I 24p C2 is C4k 8bit 100M 24p VFR at 48fps C3 is the same as C2 but the VFR at 12fps
You're right to create the optimised media. Mac handles its processing differently. I know that when you start throwing effects/colour on it struggles cause that's gpu focused which the Mac's are lacking in. I suppose leave that work until the very very VERY end and then export it. You can toggle effects and colour off during timeline editing in resolve 16. Might be a similar option on fcx so if you do have colour on the files you won't be penalised while going what to edit 🤗
@@CreativeConnor yes I leave the LUT til the end . I get all the footage on the timeline then I adjust the Luma of each clip so they match and then create a compound clip and then I apply the LUT to the compound clip to get an even look. In other news I just threw together a 34 second clip and used FCPX built-in Custom Lut effect and it took 60 seconds to render before I applied a LUT and then 30 seconds for the LUT to be applied Repeated the process on an identical footage and it took 4 min for the MLUT to render and then another 2 mins for the LUT to be applied. Guess I shall be uninstalling the MLUT now!
