In week 11 on Sunday Night Football on NBC, the New York Jets and Indianapolis Colts, as in, two teams that didn't make the playoffs last year and enter the year with major question marks, will play each other. The weirdest part about it, though? There are no outs whatsoever for NBC if this game is a dud, so they're stuck with this game regardless

It sounds like part of the problem is Thursday night games. 3 Sunday and 2 Monday games and 3 Thanksgiving games with all 6 teams having a bye the week before. That's it.

The NFL screwed over nbc by having ravens bills, cowbums 49ers, Jets Steelers, Rams Eagles, chiefs Texans and LOLphins browns as Sunday night games.

NBC can get their revenge in week 16 by taking Steelers -Eagles from FOX and hope ESPN swoops in and takes Packers -Seahawks for Monday night and sticks Fox with Falcons - Raiders for the late game on Sunday and concide to CBS because they have Chiefs - Bills

back in 2007 the patriots play the eagles on SNF on thanksgiving weekend week earlier they flexed bills patriots game into SNF so a team can play back to back SNF Games

Two factors. 1. They’re gambling on both QB’s (Rodgers, Richardson) being healthy and both teams being competitive and having winning records; that isn’t farfetched considering that Indy was close to winning their division last season, and for a time the Jets were competitive last season with Zach Wilson. 2. They want to put different matchups on prime time to feature different teams and players. Last year they put Lions/Chiefs on week 1. The NFL is willing to take risks and if it pays off it looks good. Lions/Chiefs looks good in hindsight now than it did at this time last year. By the time the season starts Jets/Colts will look like a good game. They’ve done this before. Back in 2011 Steelers vs 49ers looked like a bad matchup on paper but when the game came around it was a big game. So many other examples.

It's way too early to worry about flexes. There are too many variables that we don't know abour 6 months in advance. Also, this is early November we're talking about, so the previous season won't mean anything with regard to any shuffling of the schedule. Things aren't gonna line up perfectly all the time. Get back to me on this issue at around Halloween.

@@gusbussolano03 That's a vivid example of what I'm talking about. I'm on a sports broadcasting-focused Discord server and there was so much chatter there about that game being flexed out. The NFL did the right thing by letting that game stay put. Sometimes, it's the moves you don't make.

In 2007, you had Patriots on SNF in back to back weeks in November. Week 11 at Buffalo and Week 12 vs Eagles.

Last year some of your fans said CBS was guaranteed to air at least one game from each AFC divisional rivalry, and Fox got to do the same for the NFC. If that happens in 2024 then Seahawks-49ers and Steelers-Ravens can’t get flexed. The Seahawks are playing the 49ers on TNF earlier in the season, and the Steelers are playing the Ravens the Saturday before Christmas on Fox. Those non-Week 11 games seem to be frozen in place.

Last season, the Texans and Colts didn’t play either of their games on CBS as the first game was on Fox and the second game was flexed to ABC/ESPN, so obviously that rule has some flexibility.

Yes. Super rare exception to the rule, and just about the only time it's ever happened aside from 2007 (and even if it were to happen, I doubt they'd flex the Jaguars into SNF due to market size)

Unless both Jags and Lions have the best record in thier respected division I don't see it either. Looking at the WK 11 matchup I would've put Browns/Saints but since Browns will be on TNF the following week I'll put in Seahawks/49ers by default

In 2007, the New England patriots were on Sunday night football in consecutive weeks: at Buffalo, vs. New England in late November. Washington was on SNF back-to-back weeks in December (at ny giants, at Minnesota). It's been done before.

I hope that game is great. As a Colts fan we get one prime time game and I think a lot Of people are interested in seeing Richardson play. I see the point if both are injured but at the end of the day the nfl can’t plain for that. And let’s not act like the colts were a bad team last year. One win from winning division and playoff birth.

Colts Jets is fine. Not the best, but good enough over the length of the season. Should Jets get so many primetime games? No. But weeks 5, 6, 9, and 16 are about as risky.

2018, the Bears had their game against the Vikings flexed to SNF even though they also played in Detroit on Thanksgiving. So they could definitely flex Ravens/Steelers if they wanted to, player safety be damned.

I will just say this: I hate both of these teams, so I will not be watching this game. I will just go back to my room and watch Modern Family, Sofia The First, Jake And the Never Land Pirates, My Friends Tigger And Pooh, Young Sheldon, whatever else I wanna watch, but I can guaran-goddamn-tee you: I will not be watching this game.

Didn't Pittsburg play a weird schedule slate in 2020 like one was on a Tuesday and the other was a wensday then the that sunday i may have the team wrong but im pretty sure it was the Steallers that had the weird schedule that year

That was a Wednesday game due to COVID. More bizarrely, NBC had the rights as it was supposed to be Thanksgiving night but COVID delayed it a week and NBC has to air it at 3:30 due to contractual commitments for the tree lighting in Rockefeller Plaza.

Hawks/Niners is protected because the week six matchup between these teams is already in prime time, so the league probably won't want both matchups in prime time
