It's always fascinating to hear the millennial perspective on these attitudes and behaviors which were accepted when I was growing up in the 70s and 80s (although this movie was made in '92, still similar behavior). One of the main reasons I love to listen to your commentary on the older movies and TV shows. Keep 'em coming!

I call it "Now that we know better" for us who were grown when these movies came out. The post Oprah babies perspective is so interesting because they don't understand that our toxicity was accepted cause it was what we knew. I love the mini therapeutic reviews.

Boomerang is by far one of my favs. I watched my older sister be Jacqueline to all of her boyfriends including the two popular rappers she dated in the 80’s (at the same time 🤦🏾‍♀️). Now she turned into Angela, she is a married school teacher with an adult college graduate daughter, my have times changed. 😂

I always noticed how the light went out at the top of the bldg behind Marcus when Jacqueline broke up with him. Great attention to detail on the director's part. Great cinematography too.

I never saw Angela as a Pick Me when I first watched the movie but it makes sense now in my 30s. I always looked at Jaqueline as the woman who beat a man at his own game. Nowadays, men fall apart and play victim when a woman does that-she learned from you or someone else, so don’t hate the player, hate the game. Lol Love your interpretation of the movie Now That We’re Grown. 🖤🖤

I absolutely love this series. Boomerang is definitely a classic and the things you pointed out were spot on. Jacquelyn was everything. She highlighted how men treat women all the time minus the honesty and never lose a second of sleep. In fact when she saw that he was getting to emotionally invested to his detriment she ended it...which men rarely do...they'll drag you for your life if you let them. It's also crazy men feel like women aren't actual human being, so much so that when they decide a woman is "worthy" of their last name they never even consider if she's interested in that...they just assume the choice is solely theirs. It's very audacious. And Angela absolutely was a pick me.

I love Norbit. When i need a kee-kee that is my go to movie. My favorite part is the dance class and when Norbit tells Rasputia the car is shrinking. I crack up laughing every time. I also live for the water slide scene.

I'm so glad you did this one. I dropped into the comment section of another video (either Soul Food or Thin Line). You have an old soul because this must have come out the year you were born because I was only about 12. BTW, this soundtrack was the bomb. Early to mid 90s black movies had the best soundtracks. Also, I knew Marcus was trash even as a middle school student BUT I didn't know Angela was a pick me. lol

Marcus was smashing & passing all those Women who he thought didn’t match him or his standard. And then he met Jacqueline a women who met his standards & she didn’t want him so he was distraught 😭. He got with pick me Angela cuz she was the type of women that made he feel like some again since he felt played by Jackie.

When I tell you Bondy...the way you summed up how they tried to make Jacqueline out to be the "bad guy" I was like YES, BONDY nailed my thoughts as well!! They make Marcus have an epiphany in the middle of about to get it with Jacqueline ...boy stop! - I didn't buy it then either.....Remember Chris Rock's character in "Why did I get Married? said he was in love with his wife in the midst of being with another woman

Love your recap! Boomerang is one of my favorite movies! Foolishness and all! When this came out, I remember movie critics saying it was not realistic in that the setting was a successful beauty company, which we knew was false because uhm Fashion Fair!
