Painting a Model Horse Series: Grullo Tutorial (Airbrush)

As requested - Airbrushing a Grullo!
This horse is a commission - on a Factory Customized Stone ISH body.
If you have questions, comment below! I do see every comment, and I do check back every once in a while to answer a bunch at once!
Everything I have done to this horse except finishing details (eyes/hooves/markings) is shown in the video.
I apologize in advance for the bad lighting, especially in the second half of the video. I don't know what is going on with my camera. It figures that I'd finally get my airbrush and compressor working, and then my camera won't cooperate!
As I said in my video, I will be moving soon. This means that I will be temporarily closing my studio at the end of May, but I think this will give me more video time in the future. I'm also hoping to get a camera that is better suited to this kind of thing in the future, so you guys can see more!

Im just now getting into customizing breyers. I just got an airbrush but I’m not sure how to use it yet? One thing i have been really worried with is Ventilation!? Im not sure how to get ventilation? Everyone has said how important it is to have the area well Ventilated i have a room with a box spray booth but just a box? Any tips for ventilation?? Love your customs!!!❤️

What airbrush are you using? I really want to get into customizing breyers but i dont know what is good to use and what i need really. Do you have any advice and products i should maybe try?

My airbrush is an Iwata Eclipse Siphon feed. I had one other (less expensive) airbrush before I got this one, and if you're serious about wanting to do customs, it's definitely worth saving the money for a good airbrush. The first one I had I rarely got it to work correctly. I've had this one for probably 6 or 7 years now, and the only thing I've had to do for upkeep so far is replace the needle and just clean it. I highly recommend a siphon feed airbrush over a gravity feed - in my opinion, changing colors is much easier, and it's easier to keep clean. Starting out, you can definitely go with a fairly basic inexpensive airbrush set up, but expect to replace those. I know my first set up was from a kit - a very small compressor, hose, and airbrush set. (although I ended up buying the Iwata after just a couple of tries with the airbrush it came with). I've replaced my compressor twice over the years because it couldn't give me the pressure that I needed for what I was trying to do. I just use acrylics in my airbrush, and water them down so they don't clog. Rustoleum Painters Touch is a really nice primer, and Testors Dullcote is a great finish spray for the models. Hopefully this helps, but I can answer questions if you have them!

I do! I have it on my list to do a video on roans, I'm just waiting on the horse to come along that needs painted in a roan color. :)

Hi, would this be also called a “ burnt buckskin”?

I'm not sure what a "burnt buckskin" is. I guess like a sooty buckskin? This isn't a type of buckskin - this is Grullo, which is genetically the same as a black with dun. Buckskin is genetically a bay with 1 cream. Some Grullos are more grey, and some are more brown in their dilution of the black. This particular one is more brown. If you wanted one with more grey tones, you could probably skip the extra burnt umber or use less of it.

I use Wondershare Video Editor. Honestly it's not the best, and it's pretty basic as well, but it does what I want it to do.

Wild Horse Studios oh okay thanks. Is it free or does it cost money? Also can I get it on my phone?

I use it on my laptop. I don't think it will work on your phone. There is a free version you can try out, but it leaves a big watermark across your photo. I think it was a one time payment of $40 to buy it.
