I am very glad you picked up on Katniss loving Peeta, even if it’s subconscious. She is a very unreliable narrator in the books, so she’ll say she doesn’t know how to feel about him but then she’ll also vividly describe how he makes her feel. She describes his kisses as something that gives her “a hunger” for him and that she only feels safe in his arms. Contrasted with her kisses with Gale, she’ll just say “oh, he ate oranges earlier.” She really only keeps Gale around because she feels obligated to, since he’s the kind of guy everyone in town expected her to end up with before the games. The audience is very aware of who she prefers the whole time😂 which makes it a perfect example of dramatic irony.

it doesn't really explain in the movies what a mockingjay is but in the books it's described as a thorn in the capitol's side as the plan was a bioenginered bird called a jabberjay which was created to spy on the districts and record conversations for the capitol and they can't breed cause they are all male BUT the districts feed lies to the birds so they were quickly let go and they were supposed to just die out but they bred with mockingbirds creating a new species that was seen as a slap in the capitol's face cause it shows they can fuck up hence it's a pin given for good luck that later became a symbol for the revolution in the games in this movie those birds screaming in the voices of the players loved ones THOSE are jabber jays

One change I really didn't like was Peeta killing that unnamed tribute at the start. In the previous game, Peeta was a victor who won by not killing anyone, that's why Haymitch knows Peeta is the only decent from the three of them. In Catching Fire (book), he only kills Brutus, after watching him kill Chaff (Tribute from 11, who kissed Katniss), that's the only time he crossed the line, knowing he has to take down Brutus. I think that speaks greatly of him.
@Finians_Mancave
@Finians_Mancave 11 месяцев назад
If you mean when he was attacked in the water, that was clearly self-defense, 100% kill or be killed. I can't see how this showed him "crossing the line" in any way.

I'm with ya sister... team Peeta all the way. The man is so selfless, he brought me to tears! Did you see how quickly he volunteered at the Reaping? He did that with the intent of defending Katniss to his dying breath. No offense to Gale (he's a good man too), but Peeta is next level!

The fact that in the book, peeta goes to Haymitch and guilt trips him by saying ‘well you chose Katniss last time in the games and helped save her by sending her sponsors and not me so you owe me and what I want is for you to choose her again’ he literally guilt trips him for a selfless reason again 😭. Then Katniss says the opposite to Haymitch ‘you picked me last time so you need to choose to save peeta instead this time, he deserves to live’

And that is how you get a great crowd for the next movie. Katniss has been transformed into the "Earth Mother" for the districts. Her volunteering to take the place of Prim and her adoption of Rue as a protector started her on the trajectory. She may or may not be a leader, but she definitely is inspirational. Good reaction. Keep going. More presents to open.

Good catch regarding District 13. You know by now, but in the books, it’s actually introduced more clearly in the first one as a District that the Capitol obliterated after the Dark Days (the war) and which they use to remind the rest of the Districts to what the Capitol can do to them too. So it’s actually weird that they mention it in the speech here because 13 was destroyed before the Hunger Games came into existence. They never participated, and it’s a known fact across all of Panem that the Capitol annihilated everyone there. Throughout the second book, we start to get hints that 13 may not be completely destroyed after all, and the book ends with the revelation that there is in fact a whole population still there. 13 basically strikes a deal with the Capitol to let them go because they had nuclear power they threatened to use (that was their primary industry). The Capitol just bombs the surface of the District to make it look like they really wiped them out. Ironically, they were the ones who started the first rebellion but barely suffered the consequences.

What these movies did to Katniss' mother is criminal! Whatever her issues were (mostly mental paralysis after her husband died), they are essentially gone by this point in the story. She never stopped being a supremely gifted healer. That scene when her hands are shaking before giving Gale a shot after his flogging just pisses me off! It was certainly not part of the book, and I can not see any cinematic purpose for it.
@janeandle
@janeandle Год назад
That scene was to show how Prim is getting stronger and becoming a healer. I know that part wasn't in the books, but they wanted to show Prim. To help with the other movies/book if you get what I mean by that. Another way to think about it is that she was just so shocked to see Gale like that, having probably known him, his whole life in a way. Since she was a healer for that part of town, so she probably even helped Gale's mother give birth to him. So, seeing him, shocked her so that she couldn't think clearly, and her nervousness overtook her. Just trying to give a different perspective to think about. Like I said I know how it went in the book, I read it so many times.
@timhilton7254
@timhilton7254 Год назад
@Victoria Weimar I'm not a writer but I thought of a half dozen simple ways to convey Prim's maturation without completely throwing her mother under the bus. They made her a nervous weakling who can't even hold a syringe. In fact, she was the exact opposite in a crisis. If you remember, this was far from the first flogging victim she had treated. If you consider that it's a pretty small community, she probably knew some of them pretty well also. The first time I read the book I got the distinct impression that Suzanne Collins (the author) knew someone like her. She wrote with great reverence for her skills. I might be off here but this character feels important to her. Katniss' respect for her mother's skills demonstrates this. Their treatment of her was just unnecessary and lazy.
@OsSas3
@OsSas3 Год назад
PREACH! I also hated that. Katniss's mom has few redeeming qualities after the whole "disconecting from reality after her husband died". Bein a healer is his primal quality, she's an expert. Having Prim helping and giving orders to people and having their mother directing Prim would've been enough. She's a quick thinker when it comes to the reality of the situation and I love how in the book, she's so smart understanding the situation (about the new Chief Peacemaker).
@janeandle
@janeandle Год назад
@@timhilton7254 Yes, I remember that she would in a way go off into her own world when she would help people. And yes, they could have shown Prim differently, to show she was growing and becoming a healer also. But they went the way we got in the movie. Mrs. Everdeen could indeed have treated other people whom she knew. But would they be the boy she helped delivered? (If she did help Gale's mother give birth to him) The boy who became her daughter's friend and even maybe a boyfriend later on? (Though we know the truth that he wouldn't have been a boyfriend) I think that would have shaken her up a bit, maybe not as bad as the movie showed but still where she be a little freaked out. Also, I wasn't being condescending (You may have edited it out, but I still saw it) I was just saying what I heard about the scene since the movie came out and also giving an idea that could have explained why Prim took over. Sorry if you took it that way.
@timhilton7254
@timhilton7254 Год назад
@Victoria Weimar When books become movies sacrifices are made. It's inevitable and necessary... most if the time. They did a character dirty. They didn't have to. It was lazy. It's just my opinion.

Great reaction. I do not agree concerning Peeta. The author of the story changed the rules in the first movie. If they had kept the rules the same, Peeta would most likely have been killed. Gale had taken care of Katniss's family since the death of her father. So the writer set up the love triangle and favored Peeta. I just prefer Gale because he has been there for the family. Candice and Peeta would have never become closer if not for the games. It had to be torment for Gale as he watched. He knew after the first movie it was over between him and Katniss. I enjoyed your reaction very much. I hope to see more videos.
@jacobbraun1243
@jacobbraun1243 Год назад
But Katniss and Gale would not have been close if it weren’t for the fact that both their fathers died in the same mine explosion, pushing both of them to hunt for her families. She is trauma bonded with both Gale and Peeta. Perhaps you haven’t read the books, but Gale is just problematic. He would fool around with multiple girls around town and only took an interest in Katniss AFTER he saw her with Peeta during the games. He’s very possessive over Katniss and he has rage issues that cause him to make stupid and rash decisions. Peeta is such a selfless guy who has loved Katniss even before the games, I really don’t understand how anyone can prefer Gale. I don’t want to spoil anything for the reactor, but Peeta is meant to represent peace and Gale is meant to represent war (we see the climax of that in Mockingjay Part 2). Peeta making it out of the arena in the first film was not a fluke and is essential to the story of the whole series.

@@jacobbraun1243 You assume that, but you do not know their history prior to Katniss's father dying if you are just watching the movie. Your assumption of Gale is not founded in the movie. I do not care about books. The book's view is irrelevant to the movie if people do not read the books. So let's just agree, you accept the version of Gale in the book and I'll accept the version of him in the movie. 99% of the time the books are different than the movies with any series. Thank you for your opinion, but it does not fit with the movie if you reference the story from the books. @@gatroy13 much of what I said is still shown in the movies. Gale and Katniss were never romantic prior to the games. He kisses her for the first time several months after she comes home, complaining about how she kissed Peeta to literally SURVIVE. They were never in a relationship or had a semblance of that conversation in the first film, yet he felt betrayed and expected her to read his mind. If you can’t see how incredibly selfish that is, especially after she had PTSD attack in the previous scene, I don’t know what to tell you. And what do you mean my assumption of Gale is not founded in the movies? Rewatch Mockingjay Part 2! His rash decision-making is on full display and of course we know how that turned out for Katniss. Even if you haven’t read the books, the most important parts of them are included in the movie, and that includes Gale deteriorating morally.
