In Part 3, I replace the stock master cylinder with a unit from a 911 GT3, providing a dramatically improved brake pedal feel and reduced throw.

I just completed this upgrade to my 2012 Cayman R over the weekend, noticeable improvement in feel driving car jiust in town. I am looking forward to testing on the track. Thanks Cliff for the video! I especially appreciate that you show what you did, including things that did not go perfectly. I was able to see what can happen and had confidence I could do this on my own. Hardest part most time consuming anyway) was the post job bleed. I had also switched to braided lines since I was gonna flush and there would be some air in the system already,

very interesting! BTW you could also just use painters plastic which would be easier I think to put into place. I'm shocked that you didn't drain the fluid out of the system through one of the calipers before popping off the reservoir and dumping brake fluid all over...

Great content Cliff! I have done identically all your changes incl BBK on my manual 996 TT; my brake pedal still is too high compared to the gas pedal ánd it feels way too hard; you reckon this upgrade (997 GT3 master cylinder) would resolve this or do you think i need a new pedalbox? Thx ik advance, nice job!

Hi Cliff. Could you recommend a way to get a 987.2 service manual for this kind of DIY? Thank you.

Would it be a good idea to use your vacuum bleeder and pull all of the fluid out of the system? Or is that a no-no with the ABS?

What size are the collar nuts? If you remember ! Thanks

Hi Cliff! Thank you for posting this video. It looks like you just put the new GT3 master cylinder on dry without bench bleeding. Is that the case, and did simply bleeding at the calipers get all the air out?
@CliffsGarage
@CliffsGarage Год назад
Yes, with the pressure bleeder doing a full bleed is pretty easy and it guarantees there's no air in the system. Even with a bench bleed you can still end up with a bit of air in there. I also found a sandy spot on a nearby road and forced the ABS to kick in, which bleeds any air from that unit.

Also, what model of carbon fiber hood is that? Where did you buy it? Thanks, Michael

It's not actually CF, it's just some vinyl I used to wrap the hood when I removed the old PPF right before a track day. Bad decision, because it damaged the paint. You can see the whole story at ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-DgNmhoh-vD0.html

Use a fluid extractor and suck the brake system dry. You need to bleed the ABS anyway.

PMN166 from TWR - it's the exact same part. 85 EUR in Germany, so probably about 100 USD? Did you do the shifter yet? Check out the Ben Auto Design kit with the longer shaft. You can still get the original shifter with gaiter over the longer shaft, it's a stretch but fits. Have fun!

I just realised you don't have a connector on the fluid reservoir for the clutch, so you have a PDK car. For anyone with the 6MT though, they should check out the BAD shifter, it's great.

why didnt you just bleed the system to get the brake fluid out?

Didn't seem worth the trouble

Hi Cliff. So did you have to bleed the ABS? Thanks
@CliffsGarage
@CliffsGarage 2 года назад
I didn't. The pedal seemed quite firm, although I did push the brakes to the point of engaging the ABS several times while testing, which I believe has the same effect.

@@CliffsGarage One last follow up... you get to try it on the track yet? Any thoughts on if they're better? I have read that pedal travel is reduced but it doesn't firm up the pedal feel at all... still have squishy feeling when threshold braking.

I won't be back on-track until first weekend of Dec. In street driving it seems noticeably firmer but I also saw a great initial improvement with the Pagid pads that didn't seem to hold up on the track. So we'll see ...

will this GT3 Master cylinder fits 2008 987 Cayman base?
@CliffsGarage
@CliffsGarage Год назад
I think it will but I can't guarantee it. Just be aware that any parts store will say it won't, because it's not the stock one.

Yes, the pedal is firmer and no longer gets uncomfortably close to the floor.
