New shiny packaging, reworked design, and made in Montana by 2 passionate machinist - this is the Proof razor! I have been pacing with excitement since the moment I saw the High Proof page update, and I am honored to get to do this spotlight. The Proof razor is the result of Andy and David's continued efforts to perfect their original concept, utilizing the communities reviews of the High Proof for direction. The list goes on and on but the key feature changes include a longer handle, heavier design, rock solid enlarged magnets, spring driven pivot, scalloped cap, longer-blade tab covering baseplate and dual standing/laying stand. Their goal - ease of a cartridge with the cost saving's, comfort, and closeness of a safety razor.
Also important to note, Proof is sourcing blades produced in the USA which will ship with each purchase. Snapping them as shown in the instructions is a breeze and I found the blades to shave very similar (if not identical) to the Lab Blues originally provided.

Awesome intro. Outstanding review of this new razor. Definitely looks like improvement in the shave as the previous one only shaved well with sharp blades. I like that it was able to get thru that beard growth and the tabs are covered. I hope your wife isn't too shocked with a bearless Subie. Have a great week buddy

Wow ... that's a terrific update by Proof razors, it appears they have listened well to the feedback and made major improvements, certainly as far as I'm concerned. I received mine 4 days ago1/2/24. Love it. I had been using dollar shave club. Disappointing shaves. prior to that . Gillette 5. Great shaves but expensive. I also had tried One Blade. To much skin irritation! Also gave Supply a try. Still too much irritation. I was ready to go back to Gillette. Forget that. I now believe that I found my last Razor. No redness or irritated neck. Thank you for the Vid, You sold me on giving it a try

Nice! Glad they're doing some work to the original design and improving upon it. I'm a little surprised that they went with a coil spring, but it looks fine to me and it will be easy to change out. It looks pretty nice. I haven't tried that soap, but their after shave balm is really good. I might have to pick that up next time I'm at Target. Have a great one!

Sometimes the simple answer is the best one. The spring really gives them some adjustability and allows them to pressure other variations and customization - both of which I would love to see. Thanks for joining me as usual my friend!

Sounds like a really good shave. I think the design is starting to grow on me a little the more I see it, but I think I still prefer the original in terms of aesthetics, it really is a fantastic looking design, especially the handle. The new version just looks a little ‘unfinished’ to my eye. As someone who loves mild razors, it also makes me a little sad that almost every single time a razor is released and it’s mild, the community loses its shit, whinges and moans and demands it be made more aggressive and the companies give in and that just kinda leaves folk like me out in the cold and looking around for the next thing instead….I get there’s a commercial consideration that they have to listen to for financial success, but when there’s so so many aggressive razors available it just kinda suck imo that the community can’t leave the mild razors alone for those who enjoy them. Have an awesome BBS-kinda day, and I’ll be looking forward to more videos with this new Proof razor to see how it gets on.

You really need to do a video on how you lather in the bowl. The fast forward element does not allow the viewer to see how much or how often you use water. I would certainly be interested in it.

How tight or loose is the pivot while shaving your head? Did you have to apply much pressure to get it to pivot?

The weight on the pivot feels a little firmer than the Leaf, softer than the OneBlade or Focus Dynamic. The new version really needs to be depressed to get the angle correct IMHO, otherwise it's pretty steep. It's not a ton of pressure, but it's more than my old cartridge 👍 Thanks for the question!

Personna Lab Blues have been awesome in this razor! The proof Blades were also quite good, probably of a similar quality, but the ones I tested were during early development phases 👍

Subie - It looks interesting. Not sure how long the spring is going to last. My orignal high proof I couldn't get through 3 days of growth with it. I did have the magnets fall off or worse stick to the adhesive of the blade which makes it come off. I did like for a daily shaver when I am high awake in the morning as it was an autopilot shave. How much more aggressive is it for a face shave?

If springs are of concern - they said they will always work with people that need replacements, but that they are considering selling other weights in the future. Magnets coming out was something I heard only once, but I know they also replaced any defective units. It would absolutely be something you should go to them with directly. This one for me was more blade forward for sure, but I can't speak to your stubble type, as this gave me a effortless BBS with 3 days growth. Thanks for the comment rangiz99!

@@SubieShaves It was the cap falling off, not the magents falling out. It seems that if i pick a blade with adhesive, the aluminum sticks to it and the top falls off easier than if i pick a blade without adhesive. I got in on the kickstarter so i am curious to know what they are costing retail for them.

Hey John im back lol, was wondering how this razor shave under the nose. Do you basically have to go against the grain to get the hair? Also just a suggestion dude but try using hair conditioner to shave! Its the most comfortable thing ive come across in terms of shaving and is ultra slick.

I'll get one as soon as they make it with a different metal! My other High Proof was supposed to be the Pivot to Rule them All - the Leaf, Broman, and OneBlade killer. But alas, it sits in a box somewhere because aluminum turns into glue on my face for some reason. My wife used it for a while for leg shaving, but the top kept popping off. Sounds like they fixed that. Once again, great video!

Well I am definitely hopeful of alternative materials - but weary of the cost (and opportunity cost). The aluminum price is already a hurdle to get past for the majority of shavers (including myself) - asking 2-3x the price along with adding all the extra effort does worry me to be honest; especially if it doesn't affect the shave. I think proving that the spring is effective, the new design is efficient enough, and getting base numbers on sales is a good approach personally, and very similar to what Henson did. The opportunity cost at chasing premium metals could negatively limit the company from investing in the base item if that makes sense. I don't speak for the company in any way, shape or form - but that's my overall impression/assumption. With that all said, I'd say that a Anodized Titanium Proof would be a crown jewel in my bathroom 😂 Thanks for the comment!

I feel the same way. I love my high proof in theory but it sticks to my skin and the cap comes off all the time. It will only shave my face at max 2 days growth. Feels boarder line defective on my face. Was happy to support the kick starter and didn’t feel like returning it but don’t want to risk disappointment buying the new version at this time

@@sheldonlegend I am with you a hundred percent. Tried 15 different shave creams and it just stuck. Quickly found out afterwards that all other aluminum razors except the Henson did this. If they have the other issues figured out and made it in another metal, even nickle plated brass, I would buy it again.

@@pfritts3111 yeah I was only able to get it to not stick as much using shave oil and a generous amount. Going ATG though I’d still get some chatter. The only other aluminum razor I’ve used is the Henson AL13 and yeah no issues with sticking. Good to know

It looks nearly perfect now. The only thing I wish it could have in the next revision would be a more open comb base plate like the Indian gillette guard. That way we could have the real does it all razor.

@@SubieShaves I wouldnt say I want more blade feel. I personally love Neutral exposure like The Winning Razor, or negative like the Baili TTO razor. I just want to be able mow down a week or two of hair without having to rinse so often when body shaving. Gillette Guard can do it really well which is why a hybrid base plate like Guards sounds so appealing in a pivoting SE format. Would be nice if they offered two versions of it in the future but I can see why they wouldnt want to.

I will say if you liked the original, but wanted a bump up on efficiency - with WAY better magnets, and the assurance it will never come apart, this will fit all those needs. Mr Owl, How many swipes will it take to shave 30 days growth with the Proof razor… Uh, let’s see… uh 1, uh 2, um, um, uh 3thousand😂 Definitely would be a daily shaver based on the face shave. why its look like that the razor didnt shave if you use it on your face? If I would use a cartride razor for example from Gilette mach 3. After one strike the beard is away.

I find that shaving under my nose and the pits of my mouth with the original is incredibly difficult. Similar issues with the OneBlade. Others guys have the same complaint. Think it’s better as a head shaver than a face shaver. Not sure what changes they’ve made to address the limitations of the original.

I actually liked your question so much I reached out to them for clarity. The angle has not changed (even though to my eye it looks different?) And neither has blade gap nor exposer. I will be doing a comparison shave at a later time with the original and the Proof - but I am getting quite a bit more blade feel (and a bit more bite) compared to the High Proof. If you struggled with the angle, this revision likely won't change it for you.

Honestly it's pretty undistinguishable aside the original (other than aesthetic). It's a necessity to the future of the product line especially if we want to see customization with materials and weights. I understand your comment though and appreciate the comment. Thanks for watching

Wow, that was a great first impressions video. Shaving off the beard, that was a shock. 100% commitment to your channel and to wet shaving ! Looks like a good product. Not crazy about seeing the spring at the rear as other parties already commented on, however looks are secondary to performance. Love your enthusiasm to the craft, keep up the good work.
