You saved the life of a lawnmower that was very very close to being shoved over the edge of the nearest cliff. Thank You Very Much!

I went to other videos and they all said the same thing. Turn the wheel half a dozen times, hold it there with a screwdriver, thread the rope in then let the wheel go and it will roll up the rope. Not for me! My wheel turned a hundred times and never got tight. Then. I found YOU! You said to manually roll up the rope, reinstall the mechanism and, sure enough, it worked! Thank you so much!

Changed the pull cord, but I noticed there was no tension being created. I kept hearing a "clicking". I came across this video & wouldn't you know, my spring was broken on the inside. Bent the end like they show you in this video & that solved the trick! Thanks guys.

Very pleased that I could replace the broken started cord of my really old Briggs and Stratton lawn mower after watching this video. I don't have much experience , but the video was very well made and step by step instructions very useful. Thanks.

Thanks a million for making this video! I couldn't figure out how to get my starter sring back on the mower, and this video helped me do it! I was getting ready to junk it and buy a new one (cheapest one was $300 at Lowe's) but with your video I was able to fix mine. Starts better than it ever has (mower is almost 18 years old) and I also replaced the pull cord because it was frayed and the handle was cracked. Thanks again for showing us how to do it! You saved me $300!

Awesome thanks. After messing for an hour trying to change the pull cord and mine didnt have vents to put the screw driver in. So then I noticed the spring was backwards and slightly mangled. Thanks to your video I identified my problem and now it is fixed. I also drilled a hole for the eventuality of next time.

Thanks for the video - very informative! I’ve just replaced the pull cord on my B&S engined mower here in the UK, and had problems with the recoil spring tab. Turns out my spring needed some tweaking with my long-nose pliers before it would catch on the tab. I’ve still got no idea how it miraculously latched in the first place Got there in the end though!

Thank you very much for posting such a detailed video. My issue had started when the old cord broke and I had to replace it. I followed the other video to replace it but it was still having issues; come to find out the spring was not catching any longer on the inside post. I took that all apart and bent the coil in so it would connect and now it fires right up. My boss said a lady could not fix it and for me to take it into the shop.

You saved my day! Just got my spring and rope all back together again! And the mower started! After the spring came out and uncoiled I thought, Now, What? After messing around with it for an hour, I thought, RU-vid. Your video repair was straight forward on the exact same engine I have. Thanks. Don't know what it would have cost at the lawn center for repairs? As I said, You saved the day!

Very helpful, Thanks! NOTE: On my mcculloch chainsaw...you know the part of the video where you took off the housing so you could place the bundle into the other part of the housing......Well don't take it out. Just put the entire thing (cover included) that you just wound Into the base-plate of the chainsaw, making sure you latch the end to the baseplate as you push it down. I tried your way, but it never would "catch" when I tried to wind it. So leave the plate ON after you wind it, place all into the recepticle, then put in your screws....but it will stay in place even without.

Hi, great video. My problem is that the top cover that holds those white things in place broke. I was hoping to maybe just superglue the top cover back together after i put the white things back on unless you can tell me what that 'top cover' that holds those 'two white pieces' is called and if I can order it. Your help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you..

Very helpful but one needs to stress the importance of folding the inside end of the spring so that it slots easily into the gap on the central column. it therefore needs to be almost at right angles to it, when you replace the spring case. I got my lawn mower working again after several attempts which involved repating the operation. Anyway THANKS.

Important to note that the spring has to be wound the opposite direction as the cord. It is not clear, especially if the spring pops off before you get a look at how it was installed. The spring will fit either way, but it can damage the spring if put on backwards, or "upside down".

Note that there are holes in the top that one can place nails into that hold the spring in place with a little tension while being installed. When the wheel is put into place, remove the nails. I wanted to add a little more tension on the spring before installing because I had a perfectly good cord, but it has a metal clip on it to limit its uptake due to attaching up at the push bar handle, so it needs a lot of slack. This is exactly the video I needed rather than the "replace the whole unit" video FWIW: My neighbor threw out his perfectly good mower because of this spring being broken at the very tip. It started on the first try after I fixed it. I would have just given it back to him, fixed, my first thought, but then I remembered he has been a dick to me, so it will go to charity.

This happened to us. Maybe this will help. A second look at the video and we realized our white plastic wings were not opening. Took the black plastic bit w screw back off and saw that there are channels on the black plastic cap and plastic protrusions on the white wings that fit together and allow the wings to slide back and forth in the channels. Put the black plastic cap on right - making sure wings could slide in channels and all was well. As you see in the video the wings need to fly out and fall back in as you pull the cord.

@Pushmowerrepair
@Pushmowerrepair 9 лет назад
+Robert Bird Heating up the metal will help with the bending, Sometimes bending a new tab is not possible and a new spring is required
@47485ksc
@47485ksc 8 лет назад
+Robert Bird Just buy a new one! They come with a new pulley and everything. They're really not designed to be repaired. I have 41 years of small engine repair experience. The best thing you can do is, get the engine to run correctly. If it's in good running condition, it shouldn't take more than one pull to start, hot or cold. That saves undue wear on the starter. One pull is all it takes.
