That first story is really unsettling, theres several parts that sound very culty. Mainly because their have literally been cults where devote parents have "given" the old cult leader their teen and young adult daughters to be amongst his wives and "honor" the family. Theres just a lot of weird little things that give that vibe, like the "he can't be intelligent because he has no royal or noble blood". How much you wanna bet the Scotts made up some storyline of them being descendants of some kind of royal, prophet or higher power? The way the parents venerate the Scotts just screams early stage cult.

EXACTLY! I JUST posted about this. Honestly it's STILL not fair. And yes, they DEFINITELY saw their favoritism, they just didn't expect op to have noticed. @THEDubbleHelixx
@THEDubbleHelixx Месяц назад
@@Rose_Bride It isn't fair. I think they only chose the new allowance structure because it's what a commentor suggested, and I think they only feel bad now because they were exposed to a bunch of internet strangers. @JEM_Tank
@JEM_Tank Месяц назад
In my opinion I think they just made it a priority to make the kids moving into the new house more comfortable and just didn't consider that just because OP didn't move houses this would still have a huge affect on him, also OP sounds like someone who rarely speaks up about issues, considering he posted on Reddit and let them read it rather than telling them. I'm glad that the parents took this as a learning experience, rather than double down. I think it's just oversight and assumptions made by the parents, not necessarily favoritism, there isn't any real signs of malicious intent from the parents so I think ignorance is a better explanation.

Story 1: I think the comment’s theory is a pretty safe bet, why else would a 70-year-old man go up to a girl he knew since she was a child talk about his sex life? And I think the parents might be in on it, like when these freaks found out about the wedding and OP cut them off, so they took away something that hurt their family’s business so they took out all their anger on their daughter. Even going as far to try and force her back into control to make her be around these people. Which would also explained the weird comment about her husband not having royal or blue. Maybe it was a marriage to one of their sons. I don’t know, either way it’s a safe bed that her parents tried to sell her off and got mad they couldn’t get a payday.

The first story goes as follows if one reads between the lines. The "noble blood" and the "Uncle from Russia" are two pretty big clues. When the Bolsheviks took over Russia, most of the nobility fled west and it is possible that some even moved to the US, while many of those who remained in Europe, moved back to Russia after the regime fell. It is within the rules of the Aristocracy that the kids must marry into either money or nobility. It is likely that OP's parents had some arrangement with the Scotts behind OP's back, that she was most likely going to be married to a Scott and, when she chose her boyfriend instead, her family went bonkers, because their plans were screwed.

1. The Scotts were trying to control who the OP had a relationship with. It's up for debate whether they wanted her to join them, or matchmake her with one of their sons and the dad was just being a creep. Seems like the latter, since both would approach the OP if they wanted her to join them, having just the dad hint at it seems like he wanted covert action. Either way, they likely planned this before the OP moved in and used their influence over the OP's parents to try to isolate OP to let them attempt to control her more. Thankfully, their attempts failed to do more than allow OP to cut out the gullible, toxic parents. 2. Since when is it okay to give a girl a big room and make 3 boys share a smaller room? What I think happened is the classic case of dad following his nether region's advice, focusing on his new bedwarmer's feelings and his own desires above all. They likely promised the girl a big room to try to placate her instead of taking their relationship slower and getting her consent or letting her grow up and move out as an adult before taking the next step. Good that they got a spotlight thrown on their behavior and actually altered the situation to be better. The entire family could still use therapy. Together and separate.

Story 2: I certainly hope the change of heart was genuine and not just something brought about because the parents were embarrassed into compliance by the Reddit post. Not only were they publicly shamed, but if a Redditor had suggested it, OP could have gone to CPS (or someone would on his behalf) for very clear neglect. I know I sound cynical, but that's typically how these posts play out

This is what I felt too. It felt like a very strong turn around from everyone. Especially the sister. And while they seem to be doing better the solution still feels kind of unfair to me why do the youngest brothers only a year apart get the same allowance but OP and the sister have such a big gap? Why not have the little brothers move into the bigger room or basement if that’s bigger. Why are they still expected to share the smaller room? Also the way the sister is now telling her little brothers to listen to their “big brother” feels off to me. I can’t explain it but I can’t imagine she views him as a brother so why does she expect her brothers to?

So glad that last story had a happy ending. You see so many Reddit stories where kids get pushed aside when their parent remarries and it's like a total Cinderella situation where the stepparent and step siblings are abusive and the parent just doesn't see it or excuses it. So it's good to see that the dad and stepmom didn't get defensive when they read the OP's post and actually made changes so that everyone could be happy. The biggest surprise was Jenny apologizing, honestly did not see that one coming.

I’m getting some Fox News vibes with the part about being cancelled and not respecting his “values.” If the friends are 70ish, the parents are probably older, too, which makes them the right demographic. (Not saying all Boomers are right wingers.) This whole story is just nuts, though.

Story 1: I think I heard a similar story, and no, I highly doubt OP was being groomed or anything. It's more like the family friends have a hard-on for control, and since OP is living under their roof, they must have taken it upon themselves to be OP's second set of parents. As for why OP's parents took their side, I have a hunch this "business partnership" is an unequal one, with the family friends obviously having the leverage, hence why they are capable of influencing the parents to do their bidding. The fact that these family friends still think they have power over OP with the "don't come to me when you get divorced" remark, it confirms they are delusional narcissists, and I really hope this is the last OP will ever hear from them, cause if I know anything about narcissists, they will not let this go.

In the beginning, we learned that OP's dad and Mr. Scott are in business together. My thoughts are that Mr. Scott probably tried to blackmail OP's parents into making OP invite them to the wedding by saying that he refuses to be in business anymore unless they get invited to the wedding. Maybe OP's parents rely heavily on the Scotts for income. No right-minded father would do that to their child and the siblings.

The dad confessing his issues could go towards either theory but he was probably confessing his issues hoping she’d instinctively confess her relationship issues back so he’d have ammo, blackmail and make her drop her guard all in one.

Story 1: I think RSlash's theory is close enough, because I can't imagine any other reason for them wanting to break up OP's relationship. The parents' behavior is absolutely from being manipulated. I think the reason why they suddenly allowed the wedding initially is so the Scotts can come and object the wedding for humiliation. Edit: On a second thought, with the mentions of a s3x life, the commenters' theory might also be the correct one, either way this is messed up

My mom tried to play that game, too. But the problem is she kept forgetting about her action plan and would go back and forth so like one day its "you need to come home" and the next day its "if you step foot on my property I'll call the police!" She even helped my sister to try to get adult custodianship of me (to take away my own legal/financial control of my life by force) under false pretenses. She couldn't do it directly because her licensing board had already seen evidence that she had abused me, and said that basically allthough they couldn't stop my mom from trying to take custody of me, they could refuse to renew her license to practice medicine next year, which she has already almost lost several times because of abusing me, with video evidence. These two goons worked together to fake a string of text messages to make it look like I was actively attempting to gameover myself and had sent them goodbye messages. IDK why mom thought it was a good idea to show me this in progress including showing me a message from my sister literally saying, "if I am served anything (a protective order), then I will just tell the police she is suicidal". Mom said it was, "to show (me) what to expect if (I) keep disrespecting (her and my sister)." but all it did was serve as further evidence of why I needed a protective order against my sister. Now my sister has a bench warrant in the state I live in (she fled the state when I filed a protective order against her lol) and my mom's license to practice medicine is on probation for the 6th time. I think they forgot I'm married, so even if I was determined to be mentally incompetent, my wife would be the one to make decisions for me and have control of my assets/life. I don't even have enough to buy a new car, so IDK why my sister and mom want my bank account and medical authorization so badly. I'd give them the money if it meant a total relinquish of social obligations for the rest of my life lol but I know them, they'll just come back again whining for more because they didn't actually want money, they just want their favorite chew toy back under their control (aka, me).

Op in the first story. If you're reading this, talk with your husband to see if you two can get your younger brothers out of your parent's house, and that they live with you temporarily until they're on their feet and financially stable. The way your parents and the Scott family treat you and your husband is so wrong on so many levels. I assure you they will do the same to your younger brothers one day. If they disrespect you, your husband and your feelings, they'll do the same to your brothers. If you really care about them, and your husband is on board, get them out now while you can.
