It's been a wild monsoon season. Today we walk you around our property to show you how the berm and swale are preforming, and the damage that the rain is causing. But, we also show you the fun we've had this season with all the rain.

This is so cool!! We are in the Mojave Desert in CA, we don't get quite as much monsoon activity as you do--but your greenery right now is amazing! Green in the desert is the most beautiful thing. You guys have inspired me to get a rain barrel for my chickens and garden to harvest the little water we do get. I love your adventures!

So glad you had your swale and berm system installed in time to take advantage of the monsoon season in your area. I watched a video recently about these kind of projects being installed in areas of India that had been over cropped and over grazed to devastating effect. The swale and berm systems are bringing them back to life. So glad you are getting the word out about these regenerative practices. One can only hope that other areas in the western U.S. will join in. Best to your family as you continue your efforts and experiments. Yay, Tiny Shiny Home!

Our tiny house got stuck on the way back on our dirt roads (it rained but wasn’t terrible, so we thought) and our 8 year old said our new motto is “we don’t risk it!” Took 2 trucks and a backhoe to get it out… we have learned that we don’t risk it! 🤣

Back in 2006 A girlfriend of mine drove her car into a wash that ran over our road in queen creek. At the time I worked for superstition springs Honda. I put her car up on one of my car lifts and pulled the drain plugs in the frame. It sat there for two days draining. The cars electrical was never the same. Insurance company totaled the car. She was lucky she got herself and her kids out of the car, because it got swept down the wash a ways caked in red mud. She had bought the car new a week before. Monsoon is no joke!

Beautiful! All that water! Blessings galore! Mohave here. Storm went around us (bummer) but sky was beautiful, full of gold and purple flashes behind clouds like yours for an hour! 1200 gallons! Maybe another holding tank eventually! Wishing I was Nine Nine!

I love the monsoon season - it forces everyone to plan ahead and to get ready to enjoy being home. I know that you have to work every day to get your home built. But the rain forces you to stop working and enjoying rest and relaxation that I know you would not do if it weren’t raining. Also, I think the heat this year hasn’t really been that bad. God is having mercy on you and your kids!

Why not use a cement sealer over the walls to repel water. Also, I know it's not cheap but get a second water container for over flow. Never have enough drinking water.

I'm glad the Berms and swales are working out for y'all. Maybe 2 or 3 culvert pipes next to each other may help your driveway or a bridge would be pretty, but I'm sure you have an awesome plan

Bonjour la family. i've been watching the weather forecast for the Tuscson area and zikes: it's been raining. what a delight to see Nine-Nine frolicking at Tiny Shiny Lake. what fun !! Bravo Rudy. the Berms and Swales are a work art and ecological expertise. i'm happy for you all. as for yesterday's video, i watching in it 15 minutes segments throughtout the day. Loved seeing the swells working as planned. Your dessert is greening up well. Glad to here that your last final coat is holding up decently. A little more tweaking and you should have your final coat formula worked out. Thanks for showing us the water storage tank in action. Could you use a transfer pump to pump the water from that tank via a garden hose or pcv tubing to another tank?

The sight of that much water in the desert is wonderful. It will truly make a difference during the dry times of the year to come. I eagerly anticipate seeing it in a year, in 3 years, in 5 years. You will have a true oasis. I also love seeing the native pollinators in action. They will make your garden sooooo productive.

Best to stay home. If you made it through the wash by your house, how many other washes will you encounter. Watched a video by Reed Timmer where he followed the rain near Nogales, saw the water coming through a wash from Mexico to the US. Pretty cool video for anyone who has never seen how quickly the water can get out of control! It has been 38 years since I left AZ, but I can still smell the rain coming in my memories!

Saw the whole video of the work in progress. It was very inspiring. I knew as soon as I saw your chickens going away at it on the top of those berms that your grass seeds would be gone in no time but you guys have enough grass around there that you could mow or cut down and use as mulch around your trees. Grass mulch has got to be one of the best mulches out there for trees as they are high nitrogen feeders and they just thrive so well on the stuff. It would also be a great idea to get another water tank set up next to the existing one to collect the overflow and from there you could connect it to a pump to send the water closer to wherever you want.

I adore nine nine, he reminds me of when my boxer was a high energy puppy, he's 13 in 2 months, and definitely sleeps 80% more now. With small spirts of zoomies. Zoomies are so fun and very missed in our house. Enjoy that super happy fun zoomies energy 🥰😍🥰

Sushi Cortaro is our favorite sushi in Tucson. It’s in the Chase/Egees plaza in the back off of Cortaro @ the Cortaro & I-10 exit. (head towards the Walmart - most likely a left from the exit ramp coming from the east. It’s a bit of a hike from your area, but worth the drive. There is a second location off River past Oracle too.
