Not to mention they refused to touch it in over 4 years before they shut it down. Them saying despite their efforts, it never grew in player numbers will forever be burned in me. If Riot actually tried, TT had a chance to find it's own footing. They just never gave a rat's ass.
See the reason I saw that the player base didn't increase either was when I wanted to play with friends on it we ran into so many script bots just leveling accounts on it and we hated it cause we enjoyed capping the points on top of pushing it was different to SR and honestly? I haven't touched League in years
@@yepyep86 To be honest from my experience, bots became a lot less frequent over time. Still an issue but not as bad as it used to be. Ranked was also a good way to avoid them and my preferred way to play the mode since it had pick and ban.
@@DrTomo Yeah it's seriously a joke how much effort was put into those newer modes over TT. I understand it was mostly a response to their overwhelming popularity BUT it was also new and a showing of what Riot gets when they put some effort into something. TT was so dead of a mode that I don't blame the community for not playing it - Riot didn't give a shit so why should they. It's a crying shame because TT offered an experience you CAN'T get in League anymore.
Riot then: "our MOBA is different from other MOBAs because ours offers players a big variety of maps" Riot now: "Summoners' Rift 24/7, take it or leave it"
As far as game modes go, Odyssey was probably my favourite. Such a shame they never brought it back, it was so much fun to play with friends, not to mention beating it on its hardest difficulty would reward you a free (for the time) exclusive skin.
It was the most fun I had in years and defeating the hardest mission felt like defeating a dark souls boss, cuphead boss or Sans to me. A genuine rush of happiness and excitement. I still use the exclusive icon you get for beating it with 1 augment.
Odyssey and twisted treeline were really fun, when TT was removed I exclusively played maokai for a week as a memorial of sorts, and I still use the twisted treant icon to this day I really miss those modes
Unique Game Modes rather. Odyssey and Star Guardian. They said it's not worth the time because people don't play it enough, but they don't consider the people hearing about it, coming back to check it out and then maybe play some normals / Arams / ranked after getting back in.
@@ArmoredPandaa They do consider it actually. You can easily tell they consider it by their removal of Nexus Blitz which was based on checking this type of numbers. Riot really checks numbers like that a lot so this kind of phenomenon doesn't go past them at all. Sorry, it's likely those modes were just... Doing that poorly.
@@dzello if i recall correctly riot showed the numbers for how much of the playerbase actually played these unique game modes and less than 5% actually played it after the first days of the game mode
@@alexandremarton2603 Yeah it was really bad and that 5% is mostly due to the fact you could get skins if you ranked gold and such... But there's a lot of idiots on this video who think TT or Dominion had a following.
Once they removed dominion it all went downhill, now you only have 5v5 which is worst map to play on. Smite > League end of story, i have so much unique experiences in smite than i ever had in league.
What you forgot to mention is how yuumi fundamentally changed how riot can balance items. She got such a different gameplay mechanic that it's hard to balance items because of her
I miss the Star Guardian event, the Dark Star event i miss so much my girlfriend sees me playing and wants to get into it with me, and i know her well enough to know that stuff being gone is the difference between her loving it and not so... i'm there with you buddy. Bring back fun league of legends.
Odddysey with the augments was by far the best pve I ever played on league. So fun with ap jinx, 5 man shield ziggs, 30 enemies ulted with malphite and ulting 20 times with yasuo releasing 100 nados. The best.
I remember when TT was removed they gave me the twisted treant emote for having played the map, and in honor of the hours i spent in that map i picked up maokai and only played him for an entire week no matter the role i got. RIP I still use that twisted treant icon to this day
I miss the Oddysey map. It was so fresh and unique I couldnt believe my eyes. And they just make lame excuses to not return those maps. Its the worst with Dark Star map though. Its the SMALLEST MAP in the game, with only 6 players, that all play THE SAME CHAMPION. BRUH. JUST RELEASE IT, IT COSTS LITERALLY NO RESOURCES TO DO SO.
We got a bit of hope back when the item rework came and things like LDR and Kraken Then it was gone cause the item rework Also made tanks stronger (Do we need to bring back up the Microwave Meta with Sunfire)
@@livingreverie5951 I got PTSD of a Cho Gath coming out of the jungle and ignoring cc due to the tenacity rework and just eating me. Then I became the PTSD. That shit was funny as hell, just standing there. 5 people hitting me... Yeah
I had to play Vladimir/Irelia bot lane at that time. It is definitely one of the worst experiences because you can only play Ezreal or Kai'sa at that time. Also, they need to bring back Odyssey: Onslaught gamemode back. That shit was the peak of fun League of Legends.
@@chriwehl7173 stuff like that still happens now. So instead of building traditional adc items, it seems like its more important to build anti-tank/armor pen items, even if its only 2 tanks on the enemy team. Same goes for Liandry’s Anguish on Mages ... I kinda wish there was tank rework lol
Until you realized they bought LDR & VoidStaff so your tank stats gets chucked down in 4 abilities. Insta dead... Tanks think they’re powerful and never will die but... thats not the case anymore 🥲
Not when I play them. Not when I play anything, for that matter... Last thing I remember about playing against players was getting sent to the shadow realm for daring to kill minions at minute 4.
Riot removing underperforming game modes and maps got to me. Even though I dont dislike summoners rift, i did enjoy dominion and TT a lot, and when you start cutting out content you know you're not going the right direction. An argument can be said that they would have to balance the game around 3 maps instead of one, but they can't even balance SR properly anyways.
Releasing those gamemodes was the mistake they did and they cut them out. Releasing was the wrong direction, but cutting them out was the right decision. Hence.. Why they did it. It's was a good decision to TRY alternative gamemodes but only Aram worked so back to the initial situation.
@@mason3111 It's unrelated. The thing is balance becomes less and less achievable the more champions exist in the game. It's a fact alternate gamemodes can never be balanced due to common balance with SR and them not being worth balancing around either, but removing them changed nothing balancewise. And honestly, having played the earlier iterations of League, the game has never been as balanced as right now.
The funny (and sad) thing about Dominion and TT is that they were literally left to rot. Riot didn't even bother changing either of them at all. On top of the fact that the modes themselves were infested with bots. Of course they died because Riot did fuck all.
@@riven4121 Nah, you're not reasoning properly. :) It's not : Riot does nothing -> gamemode dies It's the opposite. Gamemode dies -> Riot does nothing The reason they didn't bother with it is because people weren't playing the mode in the first place. Take ARAM: people enjoyed it and so Riot took care of it. Basically, players showed low interest in those modes which is why Riot showed no interest either then discontinued them. Riot didn't bother because it wasn't worth it. So yeah, of course they were left to rot: they showed no potential. This is PLAYERS' fault, not Riot's. You're doing inverse reasoning and transposing.
16:20 I agree and disagree. The problem with twisted treeline near the end was that in 10 games I encountered with an average of 6 real players meaning that the other 54 were farming bots. That took all the fun away from the game. If you had more bots than the opposing team you would lose no matter what. Worse part was that they wouldn't surrender in order to maximize points.
@@DemonLordGamingAC0 That would just make her awful to play imo. That would mean that you are basically useless in lane if they have any cc + a lane bully. Adc gets cc-ed, yuumi falls out, they are dead before she can attach back. I like the idea of sharing dammage tho (as the person bellow said). My idea is this: When yuumi is above 50%hp she takes 50% of the dammage her host takes(Using her health like a semi shield). Of course if she takes dammage for you she needs a way to get it back so her e now heals her too but at a cost of how much she heals(significantly less). Her base hp should also be incrased so that her measly 1600 base health can actually tank anything. Tho that would make her pretty ok in lane but I don't know how she would perform on tanks. The problem we face is that Yuumi as a concept itself is completly broken and will probably never be balanced. Even as a Yuumi main i agree that she should have never been added to the game. But she is here and she is here to stay so there has to be a way to make her do more than just press "e" till you win.
@@majita2320 Maybe they should put more emphasis on her passive by increasing how much she shields with it (or how often perhaps?) and decreasing the heal amount on e. That way shed need to jump out more thus making her more rewarded for playing well rather than just "hurr durr i press e"
If you want to see what yummi should/could have been look up dawngate: Mina. A shutdown moba from a few years ago, did the "attached" champion idea perfectly.
yh what pissed me off is some pro guy and high elo ppl where telling riot they love it's good, they played him once for that play test, they dont play him and will never again, they also fucking removed his pass on e and still left it cooldown as long as karthus ult, so he basically just has a q and no other abilities, cause his ult is kinda use less with out w other than slowing ppl
If I remember correctly they said the reason why they did the rework was to increase his playrate and his playrate was cut in half on the patch the rework dropped and has stayed like that ever since.
@@raidenent4875 from what I've heard he played draven and reached plat. This story has been so pushed around that it's completly wrong now. Better go research before you open it ty
There were people that specialized on twisted treeline. People that were so well organized on that map, they'd stomp you within minutes. People that played only twisted treeline ranked. Riot just shat on them.
Ascension was the first rotating gamemode I ever played. Learning that I had missed out on Dominion was a crushing blow. Nowadays I only play ARAM too.
Yea it was a fun time and i mean if riot would have just you know updated the gamemode in the many years with was up then maybe others would have played it
I played since season 1, Dominion was my favorite mode since it was built to be roughly 20 minutes when you play, so I could get one game in before work without risk of needing to leave so I'm not late for work and leaving my team hanging. When League dropped dominion I had to drop League, went to HotS - which I dropped as well when 2.0 came out and changed the game to a lootbox cash-cow.
i legit wanna sleep the entire rest of the day after a game of summoner rift, after a game of aram i wanna go write a whole goddamn coding project in a day, aram is care free, fast, adrinaline rushing, and overall great, just like nexus blitz
I started around the time Kalista came out, and the only game mode I enjoyed playing was ARAM. Playing a game of SR makes me sick. My support doesnt protect me, the team pings 24/7, my midlaner is feeding, the enemy jungler keeps ganking only botlane, and the enemy toplaner is already at the second tower at 10 minutes.
I love playing Umi is aram, my buddy hates her, i jump on him and stay there all round. Makes him salty as hell when we win that way. Best troll character 10/10.
I mained ADC for a few years and once that patch dropped, I stopped playing ADC completely. I have still never gone back, it just has never felt the same.
And it was the most different class in the game which meant people who were good at that class were just fucked because they couldn't easily swap to a different playstyle.
Once upon a time I was an ADC main, and then the Riot Nation attacked, and eventually Xayah and Kai'sa became the only options and everything else was a loss... in these hard times, I took my Ashe maining self, went Grasp of the Undying with Magic Resistance and null shield and proceeded to destroy Lux in mid lane cause Ashe is a mid laner now...
I remember 1 time waking up at 6 am and instantly getting to a dominion game , literally at the start 2 players quit before we could leave fountain. What ensued was the most epic game , where we somehow struggled until all we had left was 1 point , and then we had all towers , i felt like god and went to school with the biggest smile.
looks like most of those kids in his chat didn't ever play OG twisted treeline. Went from a player favorite to trash thanks to riot reworking the whole map
I never got the chance to play any of the old event gamemodes, and the fact me and all the others who are newer to league won’t ever get to play them is pretty depressing.
Dominion was the best place to learn new champions and had such a different feel to laning and map movement. Seeing my 100+ dominion games icon still makes me sad.
If i remember correctly, the patch that killed ADCs wasn't really that it killed ADCs altogether, but killed crit heavy AA ADCs. Jinx, cait and trist pop my mind right now. But it gave place to Lethality Jhin and MF, and those were pretty neat. I had a lot of fun playing Lethality Jhin back then, honestly.
I'm an ADC player and the 'Fuck ADCs' patch isn't as bad as ducking Yuumi I love having Yuumi on me cuz its a free janna and karma shield, but Yuumi on the enemy Camille? Fuck no
You mean the explosive rod or lost chapter power spike into doing 90% of total hp wasnt intended? Riot literally went: lets put this insane ap scaling with %max health dmg. That will help tank galio with the little ap they have do more dmg. Like quoting Tyler1 “How did even make it to live servers?”, really no one in whole Riot said: “wait have we tested this with full ap” or did any calculation on how much dmg it dealt. Like dude
“You know who else has to worry about getting CC’d and killed? The other ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY-FOUR FUCKING CHAMPIONS” Preach brother 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 (Well, occasionally Olaf doesn’t.)
@@ethanwells1230 yi always has to worry about cc, hes not easy... There are no yi mains above diamond because he is so easy to shut down with cc. Ti literally gets stunned or silenced for a second and he dies
I just want to mention that I myself was a Twisted Treeline guy. All of season 6 to 8 I played almost exclusively Twisted Treeline. The mode meant so much to me to such a point I actually spent my time in rank. To this day, Twisted Treeline is the only time I pushed myself and I got to Diamond. When Riot announced they were closing the doors on the Treeline - it hurt, it hurt so goddamn much. Knowing that for the better part of 4 FUCKING YEARS they never touched the mode hurt me. That in their minds, they did all they could and there was nothing else to be done. I haven't been able to play league much since. All my drive and love for the game sort of disappeared when they did that and Riot shutting down these fun game modes will never stop hurting. Riot can make fun games but they feel so hyper focused on competitive gaming that I feel they start to lose the charm they used to have. Not everyone is competitive and people want to have fun. Yet Riot seems to believe differently. It's just not the same company myself and many others grew up alongside and that stings. Hopefully they can reconnect with that more casual loving audience because I want Riot to succeed. They just need to see where people are coming from.
As a casual player, hearing Skooch advocating for us and explaining why so many feel like Riot doesn't care about them was genuinely heartwarming. Doesn't happen hardly at all in a community dominated by "git gud" tryhards.
I've been playing alot of ARAM as of late, really fun along with just chilling in draft games, I'd love to play more ranked but people throw so much when they don't get their way in games so...
I will always remember the time I metva Fiora player who, after having quit League for a long time, came back when Pool Party Fiora came out. Her first experience coming back to League in god knows how long was laning into Darius having no knowledge of the juggernaut update. I don't think she's coming back to League after that.
Biggest mistake Riot games made? The Ardent Meta. I don't care if you're one of five Twitch mains in this good Earth or the four million egirl enchanter mains, that meta was aids and good riddance.
The one year I skipped out on watching worlds because it was that fucking boring. The whole game was which relic abusing enchanter built Ardent first. No other role had any agency because of how busted Ardent was.
That's a true story about the Juggernaut Patch. Professionals had literal days to learn Juggernauts before their professional matches began that Worlds. I'd have personally put the horribly early-release of Viego on this list. Vandril has probably paid off an entire house loan on how many bug videos he uploads involving that guy and more are still being discovered. On-release Azir wasn't as bad as Viego.
I remember maining Bot Lane / ADC when I had first installed League, then the fucking ADC items patch hit and I literally haven't been able to muster the will to go back down there since.
The first time I played yuumi I didn't even read her passive and just stuck to a player all game. Still won bcs she's just unable to die if the champ she attaches to has sustains and is tanky...
Remember the patch when they introduced TFT for the first time? That had to be the biggest bug fest ever by far in the story of the game, should be at least an honorable mention the game was unplayable.
I was never around during his prework, but I hard main him now. They should have made current aatrox a new darkin. They did just delete old aatrox for no reason but I'm madly in love with the new one. Should've been a different darkin doe
They did the same with other champs too. OG yorrick, may he rest in peace. New Yorrick is interesting too, but they just changed him. I mean, he was broken af, but just reworking him was not nice.
"When it come to the game itself Seraphine wasn't bad" Uhhh... you sure? Best WR champ sitting at 58% in mid and sup for months after her release and still a top-tier in sup with no chances of her getting lower because she's busted?
that cc argument about yummi dont even makes sense, leaving the champion to take the cc instead of the carry then hide after the cc pass is a valid strategy, yummi is not that fragile because she can chose when to be vulnerable
*No* shes just a living buff to her allies that goes untargetable and I kill at every stage no matter the risk with a level 3 1000 true damage cho ult because apparently thats the only way we can actually fight the enemy fairly. I hate yummi with a passion but I never ban her because no matter what happens if her champ dies or she gets caught out imma use flash to make sure shes well and truly dead. On the other hand if she attaches herself to a HYPER HEALING JUGGERNAUT CARRY WHO WILL LITERALLY NEVER DIE BECAUSE OF THEIR COMBINED HEALS... least to say I get very triggered. Thornmail, sunfire and demonic embrace are my babies because thats the only way I can have a significant impact against such a lethal combo. Edit: she does take SOME skill to pull off and I admit her whole tanks cc to protect an ally is very good but again what good is it if the cc is aoe? Just saying.
@@where_is_sauce Me playing with Sunfire, Demonic embrace and thornmail on Cho'gath vs any tank with a yummi attached: Our battle will be legendary! Challenge absolutely accepted XD. But on a serious note Sunfire on Cho, especially late game, is brutal due to the whole cinder scaling with health and the 12% increase per tick. The normal 10 or 11 stack cho has about 60 - 70 burn scaling to over 100 DoT tick damage and paired with thw anti heal of thornmail, burn of demonic and damage increase per stack of feast on his e he is a monster.
Look man, I haven’t played League in ages; but I’ll tell you now that some of my fondest memories was doing custom games of Hide and Seek on Crystal Scar. It was jank and niche but man those were some good times. Shame about that and Twisted Treeline.
Honestly, I feel that some reworks were the biggest mistakes that Riot made. Reworks like Aatrox or Mordekaiser, that changed the gameplay too much, making them not feel like being the same champions.
started playing in s11 and looking back on the cool casual modes, it makes me wish I played back then and got more into the game just to experience that side of league.
I think at this point Riot is spitting out random word jargons as they lie about the real reason they do anything, it's always just about money. Rotating game modes are fun because it's broken. It's all about playing the game in a fun mode where the champions feel OP. Everyone gets a shot on having a good time and the games don't last long too. But that means we have fun fast and stop playing soon after, once we get that buzz we sated the Lol addiction for the day. That's what they don't like.
I love playing Yuumi and here's the thing: skooch is right, she is EZ mode for League. I primarily play assassins mid and pyke as support, and LET ME TELL YOU, I play yuumi when I wanna sit back and relax lol.
True, when your a jugnle main and just want to relax but your friend still wants to play, I just play yuumi. But, truly screwed when the adc just straight up int himself and I have to go down with him despite trying my best to get the enemy adc's abilities out so that my jhin won't have to get killed so much. but nah, ints himself and the ezreal becames a problem later on.
playing yuumi is such a leap of faith, shes not hard, but she is the only champion in the game that cant exist for herself, if your adc doesnt know how to play with a yuumi, youre both going to feed
I miss being able to stack items like infinity on Darius as well as the original preditor when it cane out. Ran from top to a low hp singed at bot as Warwick in seconds was so fun.
Twisted treeline was my falling out point. I was on the outskirts of playing league where I wasn't enjoying ranked or even quickplay summoners rift. So removing it literally made me not play anymore. And I havent really played since.
as an akali main I am so hurt they claim YUUMI is as difficult as her and qiyana who is probably more difficult than akali. shut up riot and please play the same game we are.
As someone who's mained support since season 3 and got Mastery 7 on Yuumi before realizing how boring she can be, I'm mad at the *implication* that Yuumi takes as much micro-managing as a champion who literally needs to walk away from someone to perform a melee auto attack and has like 50 buttons to press in a teamfight.
The biggest mistake Riot has ever done with League, for me at least, was hiring CertainlyT and keeping him a lead Designer for so long. CertainlyT is infamous for creating *THE* most annoying, toxic and overall OP Champions since Darius. I mean, look at his design record: - Darius - Zyra - *Yasuo* - Kalista - Zoe - Aphelios - Mordekaiser rework - Akali Rework Seriously, that guy creates magnets for toxic tryhards. And the worst part is, ever since his creations became actually popular picks, other designers try to replicate his work which leads to creations such as Irelia Rework, Samira *and Yone.* That man is one of the biggest pillars that caused League to go from a funny unique Moba to the Mainlands of sweaty tryhards that are by nature toxic af.
twisted treeline is what got me to play league, i had two friends who dragged me into it and my first champ was the old volibear with his bait passive and flip and roar the good old times
"Yuumi's mastery curve is more in line with champions like Akali and Qiyana" meanwhile here I was playing Yuumi literally with one hand because I had an accident and couldn't use the other one, still getting S in most of my games yeah I believe fan vote number 1 being Yuumi is fair
I main Ahri, they tried to buff her a long time ago and ended up indirectly nerfing her pretty hard. Before pre season, she was the definition of a Glacial Augment GLP spam bot, that's all she could do, late game even with all 6 items, she could barely one shot squishies. Idk what they did to Evelynn, but I know the pain. She's WAY better now, but god, how did they screw up a "buff" so hard.
@@shadowstar2194 just search up "Evelynn nerfs pre rework" The bonked her numbers down so badly and removed half of her features, she was just a ward that gave you 200gs fir killing instead of 30. Peope got reported and banned for picking her, "because picking eve is griefing'
Aram is my game too. I miss the casual modes. Ascension was super fun. There is a vid out there where a bunch of guys held the enemy hostage in a very long game of ascension. I wanna do that too if they ever bring ascension back :(
Odyssey was my favourite league game mode by far. I still enjoy ranked and ARAMs, but really sucks that we can't have a couple rotating gamemodes still other than URF and OfA
I started playing league in 2011 and I remember me and my friends having a blast playing the game back then. I mean don't get me wrong I still play the game now but I just miss all the game modes there used to be when I started out. So when dominion got removed I was hella sad, and I'm not asking for dominion to be back forever but all I'm asking is so there's a way you could access game modes all year around in costume games. That's all thank you for your time
You forgot to mention, worlds 2015 had gp and morde 100% winrate, but when the only game were gp and morde where on opposite teams, the game crashed and they had to remake the pick/ban
