If you two ever decide to watch the sequels (which you should, they're great), you need to know something before watching the second movie. Don't worry, this is spoiler free, you just need to know this. It was made by another studio, who didn't have the rights to use the footage of the first movie. They couldn't afford to reshoot all the parts they needed with all the same actors (or even the same NUMBER of actors), so the opening is basically a remake of the first film, but with the story changed to have less characters. It's different, but still follows the same basic points. It's important to know because a lot of people (both at the time and to this day) watch it and think 'wait, this isn't what happened, what's going on? Did they just go back a second time or something?' No. It's meant to be the same story, but as said, there were real-world issues that stopped that from being the case. Just bite the bullet and pretend it makes sense.

A fun bit about the car. That is Sam's Mom's car*, a 1973 Oldsmobile Delta 88, and he sneaks it into every film he does. He started doing it when they were kids making films with a Super8 camera. It is an Easter egg/running gag that continues to this day. Uncle Ben drove it in the original Spiderman. You can even see it in the recent Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. He's managed to sneak it into everything from a western to a version of the Wizard of Oz. If you see Sam's name in the titles you will likely find the car somewhere in the background. You will also likely find Bruce Campbell somewhere and his brother Ted Rami will likely be running around "Shemping" by playing at least two roles. *I read the book "If Chins Could Kill: Confessions of a B Movie Actor" by Bruce Campbell back in 2002. In that book Bruce recounts the history of the car and I believe he said it was Sam's Mom's Car and as such was a frequent prop for the young director to use when they were young. 20 years have passed, so I could be remembering it wrong, it may have been his first car, but I am quite sure Bruce said it was Sam's Mother's.

The important thing to understand about The Evil Dead, is that this was basically a student film. It was made off of $375,000 that Sam Rami begged and borrowed from friends and family and local business owners, and then he made the movie with his brother and friends. With that $375,000 budget, The Evil Dead went on to make $29,400,000, and lauches the careers of Sam Raimi, Ted Raimi, Bruce Campbell, and Robert Tapert. It is the series that established the "cabin in the woods" genre that you see everywhere. It wasn't the first, but it was the one to make it a thing. In its wake we got a whole load of them: - Evil Dead 2: Dead By Dawn - Cabin Fever - Antichrist - The Cabin In The Woods - etc etc etc - plus every Evil Dead game, and every wannabe The Evil Dead also cemented the axe, shotgun, and chainsaw as the iconic weapons of the zombie hunter. Because this movie was basically a student movie that was made with basically the loose change out of people's couches, Sam Rami couldn't quite make the movie that he envisioned. As a result he seems to be on a perpetual quest to remake this movie according to his original vision. Evil Dead 2 is a sequel that also functions as a MUCH higher budget remake, but deviates into a much more comedic tone. Evil Dead 4 (the 2013 movie) is ANOTHER sequel that functions as a remake, but this time with the full budget and seriousness to execute everything Rami originally envisioned.... except that Rami stepped back and served as the producer instead of directing it himself.... Sam Rami's movie Drag Me To Hell effectively functions as a spiritual member of the Evil Dead series - carrying on the same style, tones, themes, and similar ideas. Rami's Wizard Of Oz prequel, Oz The Great And Powerful, has The Evil Dead's DNA all over it. At times it is effectively the Wizard Of Oz version of Evil Dead scenes. This movie revolutionized horror movies. It's considered one of the most important horror films of all time. Horror movies got a lot more gory and dynamic in its wake. Also, it's worth noting, that as basically a student movie, this is actually the worst movie in series. After this movie is where they all REALLY figured it out. - Evil Dead 2 is kind of the same movie but way better. - "Evil Dead 3" AKA Army Of Darkness is a COMPLETELY different movie and BY FAR the best in the entire franchise. - Evil Dead "4" is the version of the original that is no longer a rough draft. Which gains it some amazing polish, but also loses some of the charm of the original's jank.🤷🏻‍♂️ - Ash vs Evil Dead (the TV show) is the Evil Dead franchise fully aware and comfortable with what it is, and really free to be itself and explore its mythology.

It's amazing how much Raimi achieved with the budget he had. Like it was said, the other 2 movies are worth the watch, even if the genre shifts from horror to comedy. Having different studios (and thus not having the rights to use the previous films as flashbacks) for each films meant that all films start differently than their predecessor ended, but the main plot stays the same. My favorite tidbit about the original film is that the cabin doesn't have a basement. All the shots upstairs would have a little hole instead, and the basement was built and filmed on a different location.
@evrynameistaken5

even after more than 20 years. for as deliberately campy or funny Sam Raimi makes his scenes, its genius, as it serves as a device to disarm the viewer to the more genuinely terrifying scenes so they hit that much harder; The *"HER EYES, OH MY GOD WHAT HAPPENED TO HER EYES"* gives me chills every single time.

This only cost about $350k total. Insane for how well it was done. Also, not a movie, but a movie game. You should personally check out Until Dawn for a great horror game that follows a lot of the tropes of the horror movie genre. It's 8ish hours long, but worth a play. Actually a good story with good mysteries behind it. It's basically a movie that has quick-time events while you walk around and explore. Not for the channel, but just for your own pleasure.

The ending of the 1st movie has the demon fly up into Ash's face. There is a scene in the 2nd movie part way through where this happens too, and from there to the end of the film is all original material. The first part is a truncated recap of Evil Dead because the studio didn't own the rights. I love the first ED, it is pure horror. Evil Dead 2 is my favorite, it adds in even more gonzo scenes and some really funny humor. Evil Dead 3 (called Army of Darkness because of more studio problems) is - for better or worse - like a Three Stooges comedy horror. It has some good parts for sure, but isn't my favorite of the trilogy.
@newspooiechannel
@newspooiechannel 2 года назад
As others have mentioned, each movie in the trilogy has a different tone and each movie was owned by a different studio... so even though one continues directly into the next, they have some minor differences between them as "recaps" of the previous events and how the next chapter plays out. The first movie is straight horror. The second is a horror comedy. The third is slapstick fantasy. My personal favorite is the second one. You can see Raimi's directing style coming into its own and some nice satire of the genre, turning a few popular horror cliches on its head.

When they all came together with Rob Tapert for the tv series' Hercules: The Legendary Journeys and it's spin-off, Xena: Warrior Princess, loved those 2 tv shows. I haven't gotten my hands on the Hercules dvd set yet but I do own the Xena dvd collection. Now those would be 2 old tv shows from the 90's to explore if you haven't seen them. Just don't start Xena until after the Season 1 episode of Hercules called Unchained Heart. Xena's premier story starts in Hercules - Season 1 Episode 9 "The Warrior Princess". Then continues in Season 1- Episode 12 "The Gauntlet". Then concludes in Season 1 - Episode 13 "Unchained Heart" before Xena:Warrior Princess Season 1 premiered. There are other cross-over episodes in both shows and Lucy Lawless (Xena) appears as 2 other characters in earlier episodes of Hercules.

My very unpopular opinion: This movie is amazing. Love it. Work of art. All the other movies in the series...trash. Hate them. They get so damn stupid.

If you guys have the chance. Watch the re-make of Evil Dead (2013). It's the same crew who made the original.

A TRUE... Horror film Classic, Sam Raimi's: The Evil Dead will always feel inventive and eerily creepy (especially for its time), an amazing 1st effort from the film Master Raimi; even nowadays if I'm walking down a street alone or whatever I can Feel a growling demon somewhere out there in the darkness coming for me LOL 😂 👹👹👹

From what I've heard the budget for this movie was around 400,000$. And is still better than movies that have 10x that.. mad inspiration 🙏🔥

It’s a classic! Bruce Cambal was in a serious of great movies. There’s was some great Bhorror films at the time. I’d spend some time checking out LEGION, Marvels best TV show that aired on FX. It’s definitely in my top three of all time✌

If you guys do continue the sequels, you should also definitely watch the 2013 remake. It’s honestly a great remake that pays so much homage to the original and adds a great underlying theme about drug addiction which I say pulled at my heartstrings a little. If you do then watch the unrated version. It was directed by the same guy who made “Don’t Breathe” from 2016.

If you wanna watch a truly scary movie, watch “The Possession” with Jeffrey dean Morgan in a dark room! (Mostly dark so we can still see ya lol!! ) I’m telling you it is superrrr creepy! Great actors and great film! You won’t regret it! Even if you don’t do it for the reaction on here, it’s a must see!
