Thanks to age of empires I love mongolian history. All that you people built. Ghengis khan. Chinese empire of Kublai Khan. Damn you re-shaped the history of the world in less than a generation and conquered the known world. Which civilization, culture and people can say that? Brazillian fan here. Sorry haha
When the video for Yuve Yuve Yu was filmed it took 2 weeks. They filmed each member in a different location to exemplify tradional mongolian elements as part of their belief system. Temka on the Tovshuur (guitar) to symbolize water, Galaa on blue horse head fiddle represents thunder, Enkush on red horse head fiddle represents fire and Jaya in the forest representing wind. These are amazing men and artists, all classically trained, all with masters degrees in performing arts. They perform 3 different types of throat singing and all play multiple instruments. Temka can play piano better than ANYONE I have ever heard. Jaya also teaches music at the Mongolian state conservatory and has won numerous awards. The whole band is fantastic and their music is called Hunuu Rock. Literally the first band of its kind. Yes I am a HUge fan!
@@bobbieparker7380 I will. I just have to wait for my budget to allow for it. @all, Somehow, it is medicinal. I suffer from a chronic condition. Listening to them somehow relieves the symptoms noticeably. It is neurological in nature, and I have heard of various unconventional treatments, including sound. Simply listening to music I enjoy has never made a difference, but these songs do. Funny thing, I'm starting to learn the lyrics! Does the black swan story make anybody else cry?
It isn't metal but folk rock, since they mix their Mongolian folklore (the instruments, the throat singing and musical structures) with rock. If you think about it, they're mixing the Western and the Eastern worlds in order to create music that appeals to every human being around the world. The Hu is a great first step when trying to listen to Mongolian folk... but they're not the only ones. If you want something more metal you have Tengger Cavalry or Nine Treasures, if you're aiming for something more punk you have Hanggai, and if you want something more folk you have Batzorig Vaanchig.
Love your dad's taste in music! He caught on to how difficult the throat singing actually is, as well as the theme of the band. My dad loves this song as well, and he's not too into rock and metal! Hope there are more reactions to come with him :D
1. Your dad is adorable. 2. I love The Hu. There is a great interview and performance they did for Google. It was so interesting to hear their background and the reason they use traditional Mongolian instruments. Great video!
You have to view their New Cover Song “Sad But True”...I would also recommend another Song by The Hu Band ...”The SAME”. The MV came out two days ago. Merry Christmas 🎄 2020
@@cookiemobers5650 yep, and now they just shared the trailer for the DVD, thinking that they "survived" for so many years and now are hell famous make you think that "never give up" works in the end :D
@@horseshoe_nc Yup, after mentioning it I couldn't help but go watch it again. Still ridiculously side-splitting after almost seven decades. Pure comedy gold.
That instrument is called a horse head fiddle or a morin khuur. It is strung with two strings - the larger of the two strings (the "male" string) has 130 hairs from a stallion's tail, while the "female" string has 105 hairs from a mare's tail. For the correct spirit, the strings should be made from your own horses' tails. (Now they are often made from nylon.) The height of skill is to make it sound like a horse neighing. A lot of the singing you are hearing is traditional throat singing.
They even met with people on the Star Wars team after writing and performing the song in Mongolian to translate it into an “alien language” (most likely Huttese or something similar) to make it as authentic to the world as possible
I tend to think of The HU as being part of the folk metal genre. You might want to check out bands like Eluveitie, Finntroll, and Korpiklaani, I bet you'd love them!
The HU are really amazing and with an "uncommon" sound, this song is about how the Mongolian culture changed, it's a good song but i think that "Wolf Totem" (the original one) deserve a check too, just the lyrics are kickass :D
They also have a version of Wolf Totem with Jacoby Shaddix from Papa Roach joining. Another good one is Song of Women. Like Wolf Totem they have done a version of this song with an English speaking singer, but this one they have Lzzy Hale joining them, epic.
@@dwarvensmith80 @Bill Sigler song of women is love for me it gives a vibe energy that connects me to the shaman's or the eternity soul literally without any idea I have a beautiful experience of a tour to my village sitting up in the hood of the bus with all those dirty dusty track with a majestic view of hills and mountains with the hu is an unforgettable moment of my life!!!
I'm willing to bet that your dad will love Ningen Isu. Heartless Scat is the song that everybody is reacting to but I would recommend Namahage or the color out of space.
A song of theirs that I like even better than this one or "Wolf Totem" is "The Great Chingiss Khaan". I suppose some might consider it a bit politically incorrect since the song glorifies a Mongol (Genghis Khan) who militarily conquered most of the world, and the song fills the listener with that sort of world-conqueror spirit. I'd say it is the most metal of the songs I've heard from The Hu. And the official music video looks like it was a big budget production: it's gorgeous!
Back in the days of Genghis Khan they conquered the known world from the back of a horse 🐎 Genghis Khan in his day ruled the largest Empire in the history of the world even bigger than what the Romans did , and they took it all from the back of their 🐎 horse's
Yes, the instrument is "Horsehead fiddle " in Mongolian "Morin Huur "- traditionally made with the horsetail. And the sound of the horse is on purpose. Loved the reaction. Your dad is super cute
When I heard Wolf Totem the first time I could see it in the opening scene of a movie. When the chorus kicks in I see like, an old muscle car like Gran Torino or Roadrunner driving through a dirty desert road with the heat waves running through it. I listened to multiple times in one day, it was awesome!
You're dad is awesome man! What a fun reaction! They have a completely unique style and I can just grove to it for hours. You should check out a group called Hanggai Band. They have a similar style, instrument-wise, but the sound is different. Give a look. (And thanks Tank's Dad!)
I love Mongolian...I'm a Tibetan and thus history says lots about friendship between all beings...we still support there language which this days Chinese CCP interrupting between religions and cultures language ... Love comes from nature and we need to respect nature...❤❤❤love watching your reaction and specially your father knows lot about Mongolian culture ✌✌✌❤❤
My favorite song from The Gereg Album is called ☝🏽🎧🎶. “THE SAME” it’s so Freakin’ Incredible to hear. I’m purchasing a new system just so I can hear it with ALL its Full Impact. I absolutely love ❤️ the Hu Band but no many know that Throat Singing was used to meditate with Nature. This is WHY the Mongolians have a variety of different types. 🐺🦅💨🌊🏔 Thanks for posting this Reaction. I sincerely appreciated your Dad’s relatable moments as well. Stay Safe and Positive.
Nice video, can I suggest Waggaki Band, Homura + Akatsuki no Ito live first Japanese tour 2015. A similar traditional + rock approach but from a Japanese group.
Hey Tank's Dad, awesome job with this suggestion! Like you said, Wolf Totem has been covered on other channels. This one was new to me too, so thank you for this! Tank, thank you for this reaction, even though it was nearly factless :D
This was actually the very first video they posted on RU-vid back in 2018. The first time I heard was when it had just released up here and I've been in love ever since.
This was the song that first introduced me to The Hu and I've been a fan since. Wolf Totem has a different style to it, more like a march/war chant, while this one has more of a groove. Both are great songs and really all of their stuff is awesome!
Imho there is too much talk about The Hu being a metal band. I haven't heard all their songs, but those I actually have heard are definitely not even close to being metal. If you want Mongolian metal, I'd recommend you to listen to Tengger Cavalry!
Yep, I think it does them a disservice to refer to them as metal. What happens is people who are used to pop and rap reactions hear the distortion/fry in the vocals, see the visual aesthetics and the kind of clothes the band wears, and they just assume this is metal. 🤪
Been into Metal since I was 12.... The Hu are about as Metal as they come. I accept arguments on this, so long as you accept, in return, that I formally adopt them as a Metal band, regardless.
Good pick by dad. Just like he said, most reactors start out with Wolf totem, so I guess that's become more defining for the Hu as a band for most. I like both songs, but feel that The Great Ginghis Khan has been a bit underrepresented so far, especially as it's my own favourite out of those three. Great reaction as always, and I love the commentaries you put in your videos!
Purposely leaving comment for @Juliette McGee to like! Btw Tank, this song in particular was chosen by your dad, right? Hope to see more of him whenever he comes down to your place. That was so much fun.
Hey Tank, your Dad does know !! Do you know why you have never heard something like this before? It is because The HU is the first band in the world to mix traditional Mongolian music or sound, troath Singing with Rock, they call it Hunnu Rock and they became known worldwide, leading some rankings for several weeks and were also decorated in their country for making their culture known. For me they are a breeze of fresh air and I freeking love their sound and music. I recomend Sugaan Essena Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order - The Hu Music Video to react Greetings from Santiago de Chile!!
Tengger Cavalry mix Mongolian folk music (vocal techniques included) with metal, and their first album was released in 2010 if I remember correct. Tengger Cavalry never had the same hype as The HU has now, but as someone Who primarily listens to metal, I for sure prefer Tengger Cavalry over The HU. Btw, ever heard of Chthonic from Taiwan?
When people (mostly Americans) hear or think about throat singing, they think about he low, growling, guttural sound. But the part most folks miss is the overtones. In this video, hit play at 7:50 and listen closely. That's higher, "fluttering" sound that almost sounds like a flute or a recorder? That's the overtone from whichever one is doing the throat singing (I THINK it's Enkush in this song, but don't hold me to that). A REALLY great example is from their visit to the Jason Ellis show. The demonstration in this clip is Enkush, and it's just such an incredible sound! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-iL6fKW4wiQ8.html
The HU opened for Babymetal on two of their most recent North American shows (in Seattle and Portland). That would have been an interesting crowd. Edit: The HU song that gets stuck in my head is Shoog shoog.
The show sounds like the most amazing mix of styles that could possibly exist and I am really interested to see just how much crossover that crowd had.
wow. that really summons images into my mind :D But since the biggest baby metal fan i know is the senior former punk rock "star" (locally) living upstairs i can see it work
Aha! My fellow Deep Purple fan! Excellent choice for your son's name. 💜👍 PS - _Slaves and Masters_ was one of the greatest albums Deep Purple ever made. 🤘💜
This Band is Live awsome. I saw this with my Dad in Köln Germany, and Yeah the HU live is very nice. My Dad (67 jears old) like this too. Sorry for my bad Englisch, Greetings from Germany.
Very cool guest, seems a man of good taste :) The Hu became known trough youtube recomendations and from people like you reacting to them :) Not only have they already done colabs with known artists, but also got to write music for the soundtrack of a recent Star Wars game, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, how cool is that for a unique band like this? Now that you went this way, how about a detour trough India for some metal mixed with indian traditional sounds and instruments? You gotta check Bloodywood, you gonna love them. Not only they kick ass, but most of their musics have a good message that goes with it and they usually give donations to charities related to the themes they write about, like helping with mental issues. I'de sugest Machi Bhasad (Expect a Riot) or "Ari Ari" ft. Raoul Kerr.
Try...... Song of Woman....... with Izzy Hale from Halestorm......or Wolf Totem......with Jacoby from Papa Roach....Their song....... This is Mongol...is really good to see more of the Mongol tradition, this is also the newest video out
Don't know if you heard of them but maybe you could do reaction on Ningen Isu - Heartless Scat with your dad haha, all do they are more of your taste in music. More of old school hard and heavy but sharp as nails.
@@TankTheTech I know they don't play western gear, but 90% of the videos I watch on YT is for the purpose of finding weird gear I know nothing about. Carolina Eick on a Theremin? That's the stuff I want to see. Mongolian instruments that can make horse sounds are right up my alley.
@@TheOligoclonalBand Don't know if you know Ningen Isu, but since you mentioned a theramin, there's a video of them playing one of their songs live with one of them playing a theramin, it's so cool! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-DgTEKoYhAXg.html
So WOLF TOTEM is a MUST !!!!!! next .....Greatings to Papa Tank, could be me,Mongolian Throat Singing sounds like Australian Digiridoo ....perfect comparison !
Aaaaah, that's gonna be a good one ! We definitely could make a journey around the world of Metal. NZ recently, now the epic Mongols of the HU (and soon Iceland eh Tank ? ^^ ) But damn, I just need to look at that thumbnail to have the "Yuve Yuve Yu" chorus already stuck in my head ! And I hope we'll get some Nightwish reactions with your dad as well ! :)
Iceland would be interesting. Don't know many band names, but they do have some interesting songs and a specific sound. Sólstafir and Skálmöld are the ones coming to mind for me.
@@jaega4247 Yeah, it's Skalmold. I've been more or less spamming Tank for him to check Hel or Kvadning (live with the orchestra) for over a month now. He's gonna get so fucking tired of me asking him though. ^^
Love The HU!! There are Chinese singers who have musicians using those 2 stringed instruments in their pop songs. Time to expand the neighborhood. Tengri is a superb Mongolian singer who has been on The Singer program. Good luck. Thanks Dad!! Young whippersnapper so late to the party.
I really like the bluesy approach this band brings! If you’re interested in a more metal approach to this kind of music, check out Tengger Cavalry, especially their earlier discography. I recommend their songs “Galloping Steeds” (probably my most favorite song) and “War Horse.”
Got some suggestions for your next reaction, you know when your done with this one 😁 maybe a double reaction as they both kick ass, I am for sure going to the next Jinjer show that comes through...OMFG 🔥🔥🔥 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4Mg7fbki-gA.html JINJER - On The Top (Live in Kiev) 2020, smaller venue, great sound and camera angles ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Yavcvr9VfqM.html Jinjer - Judgement (& Punishment) | Live in Melbourne 2020 this one is for your personal viewing, full show from their 2019 american tour ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7Vqdv6o_6xA.html JINJER - Live At Gramercy Theater NYC (Full Concert)
If you like group playing with traditional instruments try WAGAKKI BAND. Homura + Akatsuki no ito : ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ponTbDDMYjw.html . Have fun!
While this track is somewhat bluesy, they are predominantly metal. And no, he did not get the name right. He's transposed the syllables. It's not "e-yoov e-yoov", it's "you-ve you-ve". Not sure about the Mongolian name, but I think it's called a horse-head fiddle. It's specifically designed to sound like a horse, or at least, it can sound exactly like a horse's whinny. . Well yeah, they conquered most of Asia, half of Europe and most of the Middle East on horseback.
I noticed that you did this but you also reacted some Babymetal.... Somehow, somewhere, .... must have been the rock I was living under..... The Hu opened for Babymetal here in Seattle.... I bet that was one hell of a show... Why do I not get these memo's....!!!
If you want a Mongolian metal band, try Ego Fall. They are from Inner Mongolia which is part of China, but still have a lot of true Mongolian influence in their music including throat singing. I'd recommend the songs Spirit of Mongolia and Dong Gui Oh and make your Dad review something by Rings of Saturn.
Those two-stringed instruments look a bit like Chinese Erhus to me (which I probably shouldn't say or write, since that's just sooo a-typical "European who can't tell Asian cultures apart an throws them all in the same box", which I obviously don't want to be ^^')
@TankTheTech -- Okay. Your dad's there? Perfect. See if he likes the Norse/Viking stuff in Heilung - Krigsgaldr (or you could check out one called Traust). Their stage set up is epic. It's storytelling at it's finest.
If you're after the metal version of this then Tengger Cavalry, is where you want to go as mentioned by everyone else. I'd also recommend Cthonic (Taiwanese melodeath, again with traditional instruments). I've seen you use Eluveitie in your videos before, so won't recommend them, but if you haven't seen Anna Murphy's new band Cellar Darling, then you probably should.
The Hu Ft Papa Roach - Wolf Totem is all out🤘😍And yet again, another great reaction, glad to finally see Papa Tank in the house😂Keep it cool you guys!🤘
Modern Mongolia was where Genghis Khan first came to power and then proceeded to build the 2nd largest empire ever. Conquering China in the East and getting as far as Denube river in the West (Poles, Lithuanians and Hungarians were fighting Mongol hordes) while slaughtering about 40 million in the process
If you’d like to hear some Mongolian folk music blended with western music you and your dad should react to Hanggai - Samsara ( ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-wFCzOeWRpPk.html )
Wolf Totem is my favourite, but all his album his just very good. Just listen to their Covid Concert done a few months ago. I like to see people reacting to them . Stay safe.
Now you must check out "Sugaan Essena," a song The HU were contracted to do in an alien language for Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-oJZfEh3EciU.html
