YOU ROCK!! It’s a shame how many times I was taught to make roti. All the traditional ways I always thought no way too complicated. So they didn’t make me do it. Girl, now I live in a place where if I want Guyanese food I need to make it myself. So I was feeling brave and I found you, what I posted my roti on Instagram, I didn’t realize some of the people who contacted me were still following me. They all wanted the recipe and I forwarded your link. One friend already followed you and never saw the roti recipe. Thank you, it’s not only easy but my roti came out perfectly flaky with lovely “ brown bits”😋. Making more right now, thank you, sooo soooo easy!

Tried a recipe from a professional chef, tried yours, you win BY FAR! They are amazing. I was at first surprised that there was no salt in them, but you don't need it, they were perfect with the chicken curry we made. They were flaky and soft, perfect! The method is very well explained, especially the rolling part (cone, tucking etc..) and the clapping. I used the container version to clap. We are making the recipe again tomorrow with jerk chicken... thank you so much!

@@Metemgee I just made this for the first time last night for my Guyanese bf, and it came out lovely! I just assumed there wasn't salt in the recipe so as to not counteract the yeast, so I sprinkled some salt on each as soon as they came out of the pan. Perfect with the dahl and rice I made! Thank you for the excellent video and recipe.

I am an Rn & the best part of working in inner city Hospitals is working with Nurses from all over the World. I worked @ Northwestern in Chicago way back in the 1970-80s, I think I remember having this filled with a Veggie Curry (potato & Cauliflower) wrapped like a big egg roll, DEliCiouS. Those were the days we all thought we would never loose touch with each other sadly life got in the way. I am very grateful that I still do have two friends from that time which is amazing. I would just like to clarify that generally roti and paratha are not interchangeable. The roti (of north Indian origin) is a simple, two layered, puffed-up bread made of fine wheat flour (atta) whereas paratha (of south Indian origin) is a layered flatbread made with all-purpose flour (maida). It seems to me that you made the latter and it looks very good! Keep up the good work!
@HSJ1076
@HSJ1076 Год назад
It is interchangeable, within the numerous variations.. Malay term for what North Indians call paratha is roti... Chapati/phulkaa/roti is an interchangeable term for the same thing in the North....

I cant count how many times I've made this... it's a hit with everyone who's tried it😅 They all want to know the 'secret ingredient' lol. Also things I add to mine that make the actual roti a bit more tasty: salt, black pepper/ cayenne pepper, powder milk ( or substitute half of the water for evaporated milk). Sometimes I forget to make these additions and I can definitely taste the difference. Thank you for igniting my love for roti💕

Since I haven't progressed to making curried stews to eat with it, I settled for my 3 hour chili. OH! MY! GOSH! I'm in heaven! Thank you for your generosity in sharing your "secret sauce (yeast)." Thank you so much for this recipe and tutorial! I made this and they are perfect! Definitely a keeper! I froze some uncooked and they still retained its deliciousness and flakiness right from freezer to pan. I just made sure before freezing them I oiled them and place them in between plastic sheets. Thanks again for the detailed video and taking your time to share this!

Thanks I'd try freezing some. Wondering if I could cook it first though?

Wow! I don't know you can freeze them. Do you flatten them first? I'd like to try also. Thanks!

@@junacalica4517 sorry for the late response. Yes. Flatten>place on oiled parchment. Do this in stack of 2’s first then when they are all frozen place all in a ziplock container. It takes a bit of patience but so worth it when you find yourself craving for an instant roti. I usually make a double batch.

@@dowdyhomemadeicecream9706 ..not sure. I’ve tried other recipes where I cooked them off and froze them. When it came to preheating it in a pan it turned out a bit tough. I would maybe take one portion cut it in half,roll them out cook, one off and freeze it and freeze the other half portion raw and see what the comparisons are when you preheat/cook. Maybe this recipe is more forgiving.

I've been using your recipe for some time now and it's so easy and much quicker than the traditional recipe I used. I'm no longer reluctant to make it for my family. If you didn't see me make it, you'd think I bought it from a roti shop. Perfect every time. Thank you so much from Trinidad.😘

MetemgeeBlog that rubbery drawer liner works great for making stuff not move, cutting boards, glass cookware and all kinds of plates and bowls. 😀
