This dashboard had many cracks in it, and I filled the cracks with Sicaflex boat deck sealant that is sandable.
With this scrap piece I just wanted to test how it was to make the vinyl down in the tray.
Here you can see how the test turned out.

I found my way here from your comment on the Sailing Yaba video. I have a 9-3 floppytop and am very interested in your project and like that you have shown where you make mistakes that I can copy :) Rather than using your finger try some of the yellow soft plastic squeegee for window tint films that are available on ebay. I bought some recently for a different job and they were not stiff enough but now I know what they will be good for.

Maybe if you filled the dash recess with warm , dry sand when the vacuum is on and leave the sand until it cools

I dont think that will work. I have to rub the vinyl into the corners while vacuming, and that will not be possible with sand in.

Did you manage to get it all done? Do you think it can stand to hot summer days?

No, I only got this tests done. I have to order a new piece of vinyl to get the dash done. This is so far just a test project. If you did not already see it, you find a video of when I replaced my cracked up dash with a crack free one. If I continye this project, I will also give it some test in the sun when the summer comes, to see how it will take the sun as well.
