@@wom_Bat Sam Fisher: (grabs henchman and puts into headlock) “I’m going to ask you some questions…” Nobody could’ve voiced Fisher better than Ironside.
Ironside really nailed that "It's only me..." line. You can really feel the pain and loss just on its own, but it especially hits hard when you understand the subtext of old school games and franchises dying. For me, it brings back memories of Army Men, Turok, and especially Medal of Honor.
I love playing army men back in playstation one.. they look like they are made from plastic rather than real human especially when hit by bullets.. still favorite games out there.. memories!
@@saintd_ii I think you're thinking too hard on it. I'm talking about game series in general that have disappeared, not something related to Splinter Cell specifically.
@@angbandsbane I said that because you said made the subtext sound very broad, when it's in fact about a very niche genre which died before it even had a chance to flourish. To this day, CT is the best stealth game because modern stealth only exists as stealth elements within more accessible genres. Such as shooters, like medal of honor. The subtext doesn't really apply to that.
Never played any of the MGS games only MGS:TPP, Sam has always been my favourite character in the gaming industry as a whole and just to hear him speak like that about his competition just made me respect him even more and well Snake was the and will be the og man who started this stealth genre and I love this subtle reference towards each other but it also breaks my heart that stealth genre is on the decline lately and it might never be what it was in its prime days :(
I don't think they're burying the franchise, the Ubisoft CEO has stated several times that Splinter Cell is being taken care of. In fact I actually think all of these events and appearances in other games are just pre-marketing for the upcoming Splinter Cell. Makes me at least hopeful :D
Gabe from Siphon Filter Sam from Splinter Cell Snake from Metal Gear Solid This really hurt my heart and showed my age. 3 amazing games that changed the course of gaming forever. It was good to see the nod of respect from Sam Fisher. 😢 Bring the stealth Genre back!!!!!
@@nathanlynch8320 kojima is metal gear developer without him konami's other employees dont even know how to make this game anymore only use asset that kojima left behind
Cyberus the genre is dying, stealth is more of a sub genre nowadays. You see that 90% of triple A titles in recent years have had their own iteration of a stealth mission or stealth system built in, stealth games kinda don’t have a place in today’s market
End of Time that came out a while back. I’m talking about the past couple years and the future of the game industry. Not saying I doubt a stealth game can be successful in 2020 but it’s not gonna be an easy sell, and stealth has become more of a side feature than a mechanic that a game can build a story and other gameplay elements around. A great example of what I’m talking about is Sekiro, as that game isn’t supposed to be a stealth game but your character is a ninja so you have opportunities for stealth kills and eavesdropping on enemies, but the focus isn’t on stealth gameplay

Or, how about they Retcon that bullshit Accelerated Aging crap introduced in MGS4 and give us a sequel. And I don't mean a shitty husk of a sequel like MG:S, I mean a true, honest to god sequel, one that returns to the roots of the franchise, like Halo Infinite's return to form.
@@CB-141 I don't think you know this the entire plot of MGS basically ended on 4 there's nothing else to write about, all the stuff around Snake, Liquid, Nanomachines and the A.I's are done, the only way to continue forward would be with Raiden
@@Rageouz I know, what I'm saying is I think Snake's story deserved a better ending than him becoming a 70 year old man and being forced to retire because of his accelerated aging.
Man the delivery on "so its only me" is so innocuous but so powerful. Like he's literally realizing the first generation of stealth shooters has finally come to a close and he's all thats left.
Sam: They don't make 'em like they used to...nowadays they train em all in VR, one guy's literally spent years in the damn thing doing some "genetic memory" mumbo jumbo. Another guy's all gear no sense. He's got literal _blades in his arms,_ but god forbid he have to vault a fence or fight three guys without stopping for a snack. And what was he thinking with putting sunglasses in his face?! Don't even get me started on some of these small-time amateurs. A lot of em can't even _hold_ a gun, much less complete a mission...
@Chode Master Y The funny thing about grammar nazis is they seem to always forget that there are over a hundred different countries in the world and hundreds of different languages, where english might not be someones first language, and thus they turn to *actual* nazis. English is my fourth language and i think im doing decently well, so cut me some slack will ya?
I instantly thought of COD: Black Ops 2 in the ending in which woods is in his wheelchair and sees mason I just replaced them with sam and snake and see it working like that
Franchise discussion aside, in-universe, that exchange is so painful. Sam would be mentioning Snake so indirectly (again, franchise/copyright/whatever issues aside) because he's being jokingly coy about Karen's options. To him, her, and presumably the intelligence community at large, just saying 'Army infiltration' and 'bandana' in the same sentence may as well only apply to one man: Solid Snake. For Sam, "I heard he finally retired" is either bittersweet or outright depressing new. Best case scenario: he genuinely _did_ retire, and not only will Sam likely never see or hear from him again (I doubt folks like Snake/Sam/Gabe would retire anywhere that's easily findable), but it's also a reminder of how alone he is in his profession. But worst case scenario? 'I heard he finally retired' is an indirect way of saying that he got out of the game the same most folks in infiltration and black ops do: dead, nameless, and forgotten. Sam would probably have a good deal of faith in Snake's ability, but he's getting on in years himself. Wouldn't be shocking for him to see 'retirement' as a euphemism for death.
@@ubermaster134 He actually traveled the world with Sunny and Otacon, finally seeing what life had to offer. One day, he passed away, with a smile on his face.
@@acemagalor2519 He split from Otacon at the end of MGS 4. I would assume a man with an IQ of 180 realizes that this new world isn't his. And then MGR:R happened and drove that nail straight into hell and ended MGS as a series completely.
I have been a fan since the nes. It's one of those games where, if you told your school mates you had beaten the game, you had to have proof. Ie either recording the tv with a camcorder or you could have recorded the screen with a vcr. If you said you beat the game without proof kids would just laugh and call you a liar. It was that difficult to beat. EDIT I bounced my nes controller off the tv screen at least 20 times and the controller still worked. I farted next to my PS4 controller and half the buttons stopped working lmao
@@michaelmclaren1333 Honestly, I can't imagine that, I was born in the 2000's, so I was raised with the N64 and Wii from my parents, I only got myself a ps3 to play the metal gear legacy collection recently, and it makes me feel nostalgic, even if I never grew up playing those games.
@@MintyJulep4 if you have the patience and will to go back and play some of the older games, there’s some amazing classics. There were many hard hitting games that I hope can still stand the rest of time. On release they hit hard and set a high bar that modern games struggle to hit.

This cutscene creates the possibility in the canon that Sam and Snake both carried out missions a little over a month apart in New York City. Chaos Theory's Penthouse mission occurs on June 30, 2007. MGS2's Tanker Incident takes place on August 8th, 2007. The Masse Kernels, The Patriots, they're all connected!

"He's an independent contractor and work with private civilian contractors. He's also has ties with criminal organizations, the govt don't want to hire him"
The realization on Sam's face when he says "Then it's only me..." is actually sad. He realizes that games like him are dying, and they wont be around too much longer. Him himself is getting older, and eventually everyone he knew of his genre are gone. Nomad cant take that role, Ghost Recon games arent pure stealth.

@@Stuart267 MGS4 is the last game in the timeline, in which Naked Snake/Big Boss has already died but Solid Snake gets to live, for a little longer at least. It's implied he dies a few months after the events of MGS4 due to rapid aging, natural causes.
I'm not one for words, but I find it really fitting that the goodbye to Snake is something quick and quiet that would only be caught by someone who is looking for it, but carries a lot more weight behind it.
He's referencing Snake/Big Boss of the MGS series, and how the guy behind it, HIdeo Kojima, was fired from Konami which resulted in the technical death of the series. Here he's talking about how, with Snake/Big Boss gone, it's only him in the stealth genre. Sam was referenced in an MGS game as well, though I forget which one at the current moment.
Damn, the way he delivers that line, "It's only me," and that look on the character's face... Its an instant kick to the gut as a fan of both series, but especially as a fan of MGS since the beginning.
I've always loved the idea of video game characters holding each other in a sort of reverence more than just pitting fights up against one another. Here's to one tender moment between stealthy men.
Me too. My favorite has always been Kamiya treating his two best characters (Dante and Bayonetta) like his children and thinking that they would be good friends if they ever met
Walter Miller "Killing demons?" "Killing demons." "Killing angels?" "Eeeyup." "Looking marvelous while doing so?" "..." "Well, that simply won't do. Come along now, we're going to a wonderful hair salon I know, and we're fixing that silly hair of yours!"
MGS and SC (or specifically Konami and Ubisoft) always had a good amount of respect for each other when it came to their respective franchises. Of course "Gabe" however was a reference to Syphon Filter
Fun fact; when Kojima saw one of the first demos for Splinter Cell 1, he reportedly said "That's how I want MGS3 to play." This was just before we saw the first build with clean-shaven Naked Snake.
