its funny to me that Dan is still pretty much a joke character but through out every street fighter and spin off game Dan has probably got the most amount of unique moves out of any street fighter character to this date, he even has two raging demons. if Dan had access to his entire move list he'd be a force to be reckoned with... or at least bottom of b tier
Honestly. If dan come back in sf6, they should make taunt even more important. Like, a feint drive rush. Where dan technicaly spend a bar and get all the benefit. But is just him taunting saying "wow look at that green glow". And is fully actionable, you can just walk out of it. Then I want a taunt stance. Where all moves out of it are taunts.
I feel like with a command grab this character would be the most annoying thing to fight. I'm usually already scared to press anything because of spaced Dan kicks but a command grab on top of that would be pretty annoying.
It's so weird to see how Omega was basically just SFV with SF4's engine Like how Hugo's Diamond Body is literally just Abigail's V-Skill, he gets the chargable normals with his V-Trigger, even obscure things like Dora Kick pretty much being Abigail's V-Reversal Ngl tho I wish we just got Hugo outright, best Street Fighter character imo
Bruh they made Dan into a mish mash of parodies of the Art of Fighting Sakazaki family and now the Tekken Mishima family. I love it! Cross Tekken definitely had influence!
I just noticed it but Dan's EWGF is not only Tekken parody, it's also Ryo Sakazaki's Launching Punch (↘️🅰️ or ⬇️⬆️🅰️) from Art Of Fighting 3 with EWGF input. How many Kyokugenryu moves does this guy have?
I think the eletric wind god fist input they gave dan was a bit of a miss opportunity for him since they didn't follow up on that in sfv. I really enjoy the idea of dan ripping off more fighting game characters other than SNK. It gives him alot of personality and serves to make him stronger with a higer skill celling without detracting from the fact that dan is a joke who can't find his own style and resorts to taking and makeing worse versions of existing fighting game techniques. I think them giving him this really adds to his "Danness" in a meanigful way.
I do feel like it was a Miss opportunity too but at least they did reference it via his command inputs for VS2 and he even says Doriya! finishing the Medium Danretsuken . I'm pretty sure they can still explore that in the future so the opportunity is still there probably in Street fighter 6
Dang. And here I thought Ramlethal was the only 2D character during this time period to have a EWGF just frame hidden in their moves. Also IDK about viability, but Dan with a command grab sounds pretty fun to mix in with his Dan Kick pressure
I loved Omega Dans Command grab just for the animation. But idk if it would have mattered much since they get thrown so far away. I thought I messed around with Omega a lot, I had no idea he had an “Electric” LOL. That’s really sweet.
This is the only video I've seen on youtube talking about the Dan EWGF. I've known about it for years but can't think of even a combo video that uses it, it's like the most obscure mechanic in all of SF4.

I don't think dan's command grab would have mattered much. It would make his throw-hit mixups more rewarding on both ends in terms if damage but it doesn't give any utility it seems
It was a novelty that quickly fade away when it wasn't allowed in tourneys and pros found infinite day one so everyone stayed on regular USF4, add on top that you had to re-learn the entire game and cast, overwhelming is the word.

"Could you believe Dan had the EWGF ? because i did not believe it, at first". That´s what i told to my friend after learning about it, and he was like "really? that is crazy!". Dan would be truly an scary opponent to deal with an EWGF in his arsenal.
I know that you'll probably be busy with series like bad balance, and covering the upcoming sfv patch, but I'd personally love if you did one of these on Oni. I feel like a lot of his changes in omega get boiled down to "He does more damage" whenever they're brought up, and I'd love to hear you talk about how his various buffs like making 6Hp more rewarding change and effect his overall gameplan.
I like that they gave him improved neutrals, a dive kick, his DANrektsuken (as if he wasn't a Ryo rip-off already) a command grad, and a unique twist to his dragon punch. What I didn't like is a Dan kicks, they feel off, having a more floatly trajectory and being unsafe makes it feel like a worse version of Ryu's Tatsu(not Ryo's cause that what they look like.)
Going over fireballs on his dan kicks would have been nice for SF5. He gets absolutely destroyed by any fireball character. Ryu/Sagat vs Dan genuinely feels like a 8-2 matchup
Not sure if this was mentioned, but Dan has at least ONE way to juggle into Ultra1. If you fadc right before the final hit of EX Danretsuken, if gives you a unique float state that allows for Shissou to connect. Yeah it wastes three bars, but hey it works!
Definitely didn't know about Dan having EWGF in Omega mode. I feel that if Dan's Ultra iteration had access to the command grab, then he would have been more readily accepted as a "real" or viable character by the tournament player base. By the release of Ultra, SF4's lifespan was almost over and only a few Dan players remained. Few communities had the match-up knowledge, even fewer players cared to learn the match-up.
Dan wouldn't have been too much better with a command grab but people would be considering him placing him slightly higher on tier lists because they fought a dan online and got major schmixed
Could you do a video on the Omega mode versions of Elena and Deejay at some point? You've already covered their Ultra versions in depth through your bad balance series, and I'm genuinely curious as to how they are different in Omega
It may not have been Capcom's intention, but it's funny to think that Dan's just frame DP could be a reference to Garou MOTW's Marco/Butt's DP with MOTW's universal break mechanic.
6:40 for what I know about SF4 Dan he's a I'm gonna annoy tf outta you kind of character and a command grab would be a nice buff, but I'm not sure if it would be a tier shifter
I wish they kept his command grab in sf5. Would have made his pressure much scarier. Of course, resetting to neutral after it was bad but eh, makes Dan being +3 in front of you after a blocked lp (and with super) much scarier. You block? Ok loses to command throw and throw. You jump? Dan can anti air and cancel into super. You backdash? Hk is so long it still catches you. You delay tech? Well, you can't tech a command throw, and you still lose to delay buttons. You v shift? Loses to delay buttons and throws (since throw doesn't trigger the invincible followup) you ex dp? Might work once in a while, but it can also lead to your doom, since it loses to Dan just blocking. You hit your fastest normal to interrupt the command throw (assuming it is not a 5f command throw but something like 7 or 8f) ? You lose to tick throws and frame traps.

Maybe sometime I'll set up a donation drive as motivation lol. To be honest though, yes, I'd like to do everyone eventually. I've gone through about 1/3 of the cast iirc.
I think dan would of been much better with a command grab, due to his lack of punish tools and mix ups, Air Dan kicks and a throw would of made him great in SFV as of right now he feels like a Street fighter 4 character on release with a cast that's all been buffed with a broken gimmick with his v skill 2, To me he is almost a poor man's Karen or Sakura
