That's the moment where Shadow The Hedgehog said "It's Shadow The Hedgehogin' Time" and Shadow The Hedgehoed all over the enemies with his best friend Gex the Gecko Truly a sonic game of our time
sonic yelling "stop!" like a kid getting mad at his younger brother for annoying him as shadow indiscriminately murders everyone on-screen is probably the funniest thing in any video game
Shadow wielding comically large firearms that clip into the ground is proof to me that the developers really tried to make this game come across as hard as possible to the kids.
he only had a chance of saying "damn" whenever he died and said it like, twice throughout the entirety of the games dozens of cutscenes. thats it lol. stg people overexaggerate or misremember so much about this game to the point that im just confused reading these comments
I can’t think of a single other game in a franchise that leans so damn hard into an opposing theme to the main series of games. It would be like if they released a high effort Mario spin-off where you play as Bowser committing realistic war crimes across the Mushroom Kingdom.
I remember as a kid playing this is took me about 15 runs going down the neutral chaos emerald path to realise you could take different paths with different level endings. Yup, I played through the same 6 levels about 15 times until I realised I had missed out on about 80% of the game. Truly an epic child gamer moment.
I got the game as a little kid and then was too scared to play through the first level because of the monsters and everything being dark. From time to time I would conjure the courage to try it once again but that road after the cinematic was too much for me
You brought back so many memories for me; as a kid I was thinking this game was "badass" until I found out he said "damn, not here" every time he died, and I would laugh every time 🤣
I wish there was one specific spot where you could die and he'd say "Finally, here" because "damn not here" implies he'd be ok with dying if it wasn't there
If you have a VR Headset, the game Hotdogs Horseshoes and Hand Grenades added a meme gun called the Shadow MP5. And yes, you need to cock it like a shotgun after EVERY. SINGLE. BULLET.
Some may say that Dunkey was originally a League Of Legends youtuber, but we true fans know he was always a Shadow The Hedgehog 2005 (PS2) youtuber all along
@@juneguts I mean maybe the whole "he judged what people wanted with exactly one game" is false, but he showed a lot of interest towards Jak 2 after the last game he directed released. He was going to take a break and played Jak 2 during that time. It's not hard to put 2 and 2 together.
My only experience of this game was the real time fandub, so seeing that the source material was legitimately just as wild? Tears of joy watching this video, man.
I remember I got this game by literal complete accident as a kid, my grandpa decided to surprise me and asked me what game I wanted from GameStop one time, and well shadow was my favorite video game character of all time so I wanted to play more games with him in them, and so I told my grandpa I wanted Shadow the Hedgehog. I had no idea this game even existed. I was actually amazed when I found out there actually WAS a Shadow game, not only that but it was literally the coolest game ever, like it was made for me! Of course when I heard shadow swear for the first time I knew I had to play the game in secret, and that’s exactly what I did. Good times those were.
Its a 9/11 era sonic game where the player character, in addition to the series tradition of bad 3d platforming, can wield automatic weapons to kill the president of the united states before proceeding to shoot the series mascot to death and giveing aliens magic rocks to end all life on earth in a giant gas cloud. I need to know just what was going on in the writers room
This game is part of my childhood. The arena split screen was amazing, and giving someone the 2nd control in story so they control your side character was a great touch as well
@@DEEGANREEVES it dead ass does I still own the copy and use to play it all the time ON THE NINTENDO GAMECUBE It was co op but it wasn't split screen You gotta check it out yourself
@@chriscollins3225 yeah the split screen only existed on the battle mode iirc. The co-op bit was just like the originals where it focus’ on the main character and you can just see the side character moving in the same shot (unless you got the Bee, in which case you couldn’t play her)
If I ever need to explain the vibe of the 2000s, I'll just point the person the way of this game. I can practically bottle the edgyness! P.S. The voice acting for that military guy is absolutely 10/10; I love it!
The its like taking candy from a baby line is actually a preview to dunkeys future interactions with his child. To incorporate this kind of detail is simply marvelous.
"My baby started reaching for a piece of candy but I said very sternly, 'nuh uh uh', and he looked confused so I grabbed it. I think he started crying afterward."
We really don't get games like this anymore. Games that have the self awareness and have fun with their premise. Everything now has to be 100% serious or a subversion/deconstruction.
@@bluestar5812this game was *not* even in the slightest bit self aware or trying to poke fun at itself lmao it was 2005, everything about it is being played completely straight without a hint of irony
i fucking LOVED this game as a kid. clearly it left an impact on me, as i still remember pretty much everything that ever happened in the game LMAO. i also used to play the multiplayer mode with my little brother, and fought against each other all the time, it was so much fun
The "This is like taking candy from a baby, which is fine by me" line was supposed to be interpreted as Shadow being ok with how easy it was to steal the emerald, but instead it comes off like he's actually ok with stealing candy from babies.
I had this game when I was a kid and my parents took it away because Shadow said “damn” when he died. Thanks mom and dad for saving me from being truly corrupted
This game was made for ME. 8 years old and obsessed with shadow after adventure 2 battle. I remember getting it for Christmas and loving every minute of it as a little kid who just thought anything involving shadow was fucking rad. They delivered to their target audience in spades. (Except that space mission with Maria, that sucked balls)
What's really amazing about this game is that there are more than 300 paths you can take and each and every one of them has its own unique name like "Tears Shed by the Stars" or "A Flame Extinguished by Fate".
It’s crazy going from an incredibly in depth video essay on an intricate story about video game Indiana Jones ending with announcing you’re having a child to then playing shadow the hedgehog. Never change Dunkey
Fun fact: this is the first game where you can shoot guns while a bee talks to you. Imagine, a whole genre, the genre we all know and love, began right here. Hideo Kojumbo, who we all know and love, was inspired by this game to make his famous Metal Gear character we all know and love: John Painful, who shoots bee bullets from a bee gun and talks to bees. It's this type of nested metanarrative that makes Kojumbo the strand man that we all know and love
I was beginning to think that dunkey wasn’t going to release a video on shadow the hedgehog today but my expectations were destroyed as always. You never fail to disappoint dunkey
"You never fail to disappoint" ...Do you realize that you're saying Dunkey's videos always disappoint you? If that's what you were going for, then all the power to you, but I think that's probably the opposite of what you intended.
The fact that it easily circles back to being cool and edgy in the 20s is something to behold. It's how genuine it plays itself and to the times it released. The music and intro help, I guess
I remember as a kid I was playing on my cousin's GameCube and I had to choose between this game and some Naruto game, and I picked Naruto cuz I was salt they made a Sonic game without Sonic as a main character lol
I remember watching my brother play this when I was a kid. The moment I heard the gunshot wound for the menu, i could literally see us back in our basement playing this game
I have a very clear memory of getting this game as a kid and then my mom hid it from me because GUN, but she hid it on top of a lamp which then melted the game case and warped the disc over time. Found the game a few months later and cried. 10/10 would play it again
I remember being like 7 years old playing this game and I didn’t even know about the good or evil pathways so every time I played I was unknowingly doing the pure neutral pathway and whenever I got to the lightspeed trail in Sky Troops I never got past it cause I didn’t know how to do the lightspeed dash.Good ole days.
This game spoiled me for choices. Shadow the Hedgehog puts plenty of role playing video games to shame, which is weird consider how bad the writing is.
He's got the looks, he's got the attitude, AND he has the power to flirt with any male character in the Sonic universe. If only we could see him take wing!!
