I had the great pleasure of photographing General Gunther Rall in November 2007 at his home in Bavaria. He told me in no uncertain terms I had one hour to photograph him and then I must leave. Four hours later we were drinking Scotch.
The preceding part of this conversation is at • My Chat with General G...
I made this and a second recording just to remind myself of what the great man said. I apologise for the video quality. The associated photos are a better tribute to one of the greatest fighter pilots of all time. I hope you enjoy the video all the same.
If you would like a particular print or drawing of General Rall, please message from here or via my website.
Kindest regards
John Martin Bradley

I can’t believe you passed up a session with this living legend. This interview would have been very different if you had stayed for a few whiskies. He was desperate to get drunk and shoot the breeze. You big fool, I would have left the car and walked through a blizzard the next morning.

It certainly was a joy and a great honour. Especially given that when I arrived he made it clear I only had one with him. Four hours later we were drinking Scotch.

Haha, yes. Purely for medicianl purposes on the advice of his doctor, he told me. BTW, I have seen signed copies of his book on sale for €1,000. I'm never selling mine!

Hi Omkar. I have interviewed and photographed 40 World War II veterans in ten countries. And several veterans of the Cold War who fought in Korea, Vietnam and the African bush wars. In time I will post more of the interviews to RU-vid. Unfortunately, I need to do other things to make a living. Plus I raise two children on my own and try to make ends meet. However, I really enjoy this project and in time it will be a significant piece of work - I hope.

okay thanks. loved this one and will wait for others. It looks so informal and authentic and not like the interviews done in documentaries.👍

I went to see him for a photo shoot. The video was done at the end of the afternoon as I sat with him for a Scotch before I had to leave for the airport. Sadly this is it! Although I have hours of other pilots which I will post in due course.
