Ba'al (Cliff Simon) demonstrates power over the system lords, impressing Quetesh (Claudia Black).
FILM DESCRIPTION:
The Stargate saga continues as an elite military unit races back to Earth following the mysterious disappearance of two key team members, only to find themselves in an alternate reality where the Stargate has never been invented. Somewhere in deep space, the SG-1 team is in serious trouble. Two team members have vanished without a trace, and now the SG-1 unit's only hope for survival is to get back to Earth as quickly as possible. Upon touching down the team is relieved to be home, but deeply disturbed to learn that the reality they just returned to isn't the same one they departed from. In this reality, the Stargate has never been discovered and neither the government nor the military has never even heard of the SG-1 unit. But who altered the Earth's timeline, and why? Upon discovering that a malevolent alien known as Ba'al has been meddling with the planet's timeline in an attempt to conquer Earth, the team must race against time to defeat the most powerful adversary that they have ever faced.

Even with knowledge from another timeline, he still failed because at the core of all Goa'uld, betraying each other is what they do. Baal predicted every move of his enemies except the betrayal of Qetesh, because she wasn't a major Goa'uld in the original timeline.

Ba'al was my favorite. I loved the dry sense of humor he had about everything. And how (in the OTL) he didn't take his "godhood" terribly seriously. I wouldn't want to serve any Gould, but Ba'al was probably more tolerable than most.

I like how they treated the time travel aspect. Ba'al was so focused on fixing the mistakes that lead to the fall of the system lords he accidentally created the means of his 2nd downfall.

His reign lasted hours after this and his death by Qetesh stabbing him in the back lasted a few minutes. I like the subtle change in the facial expression of Teal'c at how Baal was addressing the woman drying his hands. It is similar to how he had doubts about Apophis, he perhaps suspected Baal would not free his people!?

A bit late, but I would assume that Baal is more playing the "Overlord" here, residing over several Goa'ul factions, united under him, with the Free Jaffa Nation being one of them (and the other Goa'uld-Systemlords having their own factions as well). Baal might have had knowledge how events would unfold (and of course intel about the other Systemlords with regards to their secret bases), but he is not a wizard. He still needed to make alliances and plot his rise to power. He probably first made an alliance with Qetesh, and later the promise of freedom, told by the first prime of one of the most powerful systemlord probably eroded the base of power of the other systemlords, giving him the opportunity to strike and force those lower systemlords into his service. The funny thing is, that under this development, the Galaxy would've probably been better off, since there was no Ori invasion. On the contrary, without the Tau'ri helping the Asgard, the replicator thread might've become a real problem for the Milky Way (and thus for Baal).

@@vadfarkas14 Jacob Carter / Selmak got idea of how to rid the galaxy of the replicators, he may have needed to repeat the same plan to rid the galaxy of the replicators! Ba'al would have had to developed a strategy of how to deal with his enemies such as the Tok'Ra, Asgard, maybe the Tollan's & Furlings, how could he trust ambitious beings like the Goa'uld to not betray him once they learned his secrets! Ba'al probably altered the timeline more than once in the 70 years since killing the crew the Stargate was on to bring his plan to fruition!

I think Ba'al truly loved Qetesh. That's why he went through all that time travel stuff to be with her again. Well that, and galactic domination. And Qetesh killed him for his trouble.

@@crylittlesister6377 Yeah Apophis's Queen seemed to be genuinely loyal to him and loved him. Seems it's somewhat rarer for them to take a mate for obvious reasons, and Apophis hoped to create a new branch of his family I suppose. His Son being the first.

The goauld do couple and mate though. The problem is that baal forced everything, and he did it in such a manner that qetesh knew he was keeping a secret to his rise to power, which was time travel. Baal didn't even try to win qetesh's love, he basically commanded it. How exactly could she say no to him, being soo powerful? Of course, one would think that she would be drawn to power, but the problem is, qetesh was never a subservient type, she wanted to rule with an iron fist, and with baal running things, all she could do was sit there and look pretty. His mistake was not letting qetesh truly rule beside him. On top of that, bonds are usually built on "I need this, you need that". But baal needed nothing but obedience, and all qetesh could do was obey. Baal's mistake is not seeing how this dynamic he created would inevitably lead her to betrayal.

I watched my father die a slow brutal death from cancer which he fought until he died. My mother was murdered and I'm the one who found her. My grandmother died in a car accident. My brother n law commit suicide. So I think with my life experiences my original post is perfect valid. Every death is waste because it's a loss of potential possibilities. Plus he was a great actor.

Dude's blood was dripping sideways for some reason. And since when did the symbiotes live at the top of your skull? Weren't they always a base of your neck business (and also twice that size, at least back when they tended to use physical puppets)? Poor host never could catch a break, but I guess he's finally at peace.

Well, to my knowledge the symbiotes pretty much discard their original bodies once they've bonded with their hosts, leaving only a small part of themselves to inhabit the host's brain. Only when the host dies or by choice do they exit the body and eventually regrow into their snake form again. At least that's the impression I got way back in the Kawolski arc

2:39 🤣 Even Qatesh hated Baal! That noise of disgust! And the look was amazing! Id have loved more episodes with Vala being a Goauld! She was amazing at the evil cunning thing yet she was so beautiful and classy with it and with that quick wit she made quiet the character! She saved this show!! It would habe died a sad death had she not been eventually cast as a regular and then the character key to several seasons! And a whole movie! Talented lady!

All he had to do was show up at Abydos at a certain time with a decent ship. Ra basically only had his luxury yacht and a handful of guards. Could of held him hostage and bargained for his life. He already had the knowledge and files from the SGC from his time there, he would of known exactly when Ra was defenceless and where he would be. Once he has Ra's territory, its easy going from there

anubis had to gather power the old goauld way, he probably stole all his armies, and power before he became a threat.

Apophis was smarter than several other System Lords, especially after he was humiliated the first time by SG-1. He probably ranks third behind Anubis and Ba'al. Anubis saw the Tau'ri for the threat they were and sought to improve upon the Goa'uld's aging military technology and tactics, but he still grew overconfident and waited too long to destroy Earth. Ba'al survived longer than any other System Lord because he was fully willing to play it safe, plan carefully, swallow his pride, and lay low when he needed to regain his strength; he was not one to put on grandiose displays of power that were liable to get him killed. But he ultimately lost because he foolishly trusted a fellow Goa'uld, Qetesh. Trusting their fellow Goa'uld is what got a lot of his clones killed, too.

I'm sure he had long term plans to defeat the Asgard, the Ori and probably even the Wraith, and possibly assimilate those forces into an intergalactic empire. That would make him the most ambitious Goa'uld ever. It's too bad that in his arrogance he allowed sentiment to blind him to such an obvious threat.

Goa’uld was never coming to an end. The Replicators put an end to their rule in the Milky Way galaxy. Humans and Jaffa never stood a chance by themselves

@@sephelutis Baal probably made sure Anubis never got a chance to build up conventional forces. Then could've done what SG1 did at the start of season 8: get Anubis into a host and dump him on a desolate planet. When I was a child, watching this series, I always came to think that the Goa'uld, when they spoke in that gravely grave tone, were transsexuals between women, for example Nirrti because of their facial features, and smokers between men like Ba.'al. who seems to have smoked a lot, but now seeing almost the entire saga I understand better the reason for that tone as well as when he said when he was a minor, even so I think of that possibility only as sarcasm.

They'd probably get their own system to govern as they see fit...within reason. They would not be "truly" free, but they would be given more freedom and independence than they already have.
