I tried this for a little bit but soon realized this wasn't going to work for me. Mine was on there good. I had to fabricate a little puller device to get out. I tapped a few threads on the 2 wholes and used a couple of bolts to hold on to the sprocket as used a puller rod and nut, along with an thick washer i modified to hold the 2 bolts. (You get the picture). Slowly but surely the method worked but it took some effort, i was surprised it was that tight on there, when it finally came out i noticed all the rust that was sitting under the sprocket, if you can't gently get it out with the screwdriver method don't keep trying it because your either going to damage a tooth or crack the oil pump casing since its alluminum. Use the tapping threads on the wholes method and use some pb blaster to help on its way out.
@EasyFixShaun
@EasyFixShaun 4 года назад
I agree. If it won't move it has corrosion problems and a puller is the safest method. If you can get it to wiggle with a reasonable amount of force, it will come off. If it will not move a little or wiggle a little bit....puller only 😁

Yep, you got to be real careful with the teeth. I took that pulley off of my 98 Forester the other week and did not notice until I went to put it back on that I had actually knocked two teeth off it! With a three week (at least) delay for another one from the dealer, I set about reconstructing the teeth with my welder then filing them back into shape. I was quite pleased with the job, actually and it worked up to a point, obviously, as the car starts and runs fine. However, it simply will not rev past 3000rpm. I had ordered the new one anyway (still not here) so back to waiting for the part. I am assuming, of course, that the reconstructed teeth are the problem. Nice video, by the way. All these things are a great help to us folks at home.

@richardlyons1754

@@EasyFixShaun Yep, it was the pulley - new one removed the 3000rpm limit. Obviously, the sensor is responding to even minor variations in the tooth profile.

The Subaru sprocket can be removed with it still in no problem. Mine was sticking from corrosion. If there isn't corrosion they will come off by hand.

do you think this can be done just as easily with the engine still in the car? Looking to do this on a friend's '00 Impreza RS that has a broken woodruff key that we need to replace.
@EasyFixShaun
@EasyFixShaun 5 лет назад
Yup! Totally doable in the car. Just a little less room to work.
@JamesCT153

Trying the same thing except my woodruff key is kinda mushroomed where it sheared off. Might have to do some precision Dremel work on the key before I can slide the gear off.

@@EasyFixShaun Had some garage mechanic do my timing belt/water pump and re-seal my leaky engine. I'm guessing he didn't torque the crankshaft bolt to spec and it came loose while my wife was driving it. Should have just done it myself because now I'm wondering what other parts may not have been re torqued to spec... 🤷‍♂️
@EasyFixShaun
@EasyFixShaun Год назад
Oh ok. So the pulley wobbled from the crank bolt fastener being loose and messed up the woodruff key? That makes sense. What a bummer. Once you get it sorted out, i believe the subbie crank bolts need to be torqued to 96ft lbs and have lubrication on the fastener. Usually they stay tight if that is done. I hope that helps 😀😀

so 2002-2004 Sprocket is different to 2005-2007??
@EasyFixShaun
@EasyFixShaun 5 лет назад
There is a difference in sprockets teeth between certain years. I don't know for sure the years. But I believe 01/02 there is a difference in crank sprockets. Cam sprockets are different also between 05/06 when ACVS came out I believe. If swapping motors I make sure to swap all 3 SOHC or 5 DOHC sprockets.
